Partnership Between Porter and American Airlines

American Airlines and Porter Airlines have just announced a new codeshare partnership to offer their customers more travel opportunities between the United States and Canada. This is effective as of today.
For travellers, this codeshare offers several advantages:
- More destinations and schedules
- Much simpler connections by booking a single ticket on one website (even when the journey involves both carriers)
In addition, there will eventually be the possibility to earn and redeem points from your preferred loyalty program, whether it’s VIPorter or American Airlines AAdvantage. This means your VIPorter points earned from Porter flights and purchases on the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard can now be used for travel on American Airlines.

More Options and Destinations with Porter and American Airlines
Porter will add its flight code (PD) to several American Airlines routes. This partnership is centred around American Airlines’ main hubs, including Charlotte (CLT), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), and Philadelphia (PHL).
Coming soon:
- Honolulu (HNL)
- Nashville (BNA) and New Orleans (MSY)
- Portland (PDX)
- Sacramento (SMF)
- Salt Lake City (SLC) and San Jose (SJC)
You can already see these codeshare flights and book them directly on the Porter website for flights operated by American Airlines.
Conversely, American Airlines will eventually have access to many of Porter’s destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
As of today, American Airlines’ codeshare on Porter flights includes routes from Toronto (YYZ) to:
- Edmonton (YEG)
- Halifax (YHZ)
- Ottawa (YOW)
- Victoria (YYJ)
- Winnipeg (YWG)
In the coming weeks, there will also be Calgary (YYC), Charlottetown (YYG), Kelowna (YKA), St. John’s (YYT), Saskatoon (YXE), and Vancouver (YVR).
From Billy Bishop to O’Hare, Then on American Airlines
Since September 1, 2026, you can leave from downtown Toronto and join American Airlines’ network in Chicago. Porter flies from Billy Bishop (YTZ) to O’Hare (ORD) twice a day, replacing its Midway service, according to its October 26, 2026 news release.
You also clear U.S. customs before you leave, thanks to the preclearance facility that opened at Billy Bishop in March 2026. You land at O’Hare as a domestic passenger, which makes it easier to connect to Denver, Houston, Minneapolis, Orange County, San Diego or Seattle, routes Porter lists with American Airlines.
