Paying for Overwater Villas With Points
The ultimate symbol of tropical luxury, nights in an overwater villa can be quite expensive. Fortunately, some of the hotels in this guide can be paid for directly with points: the St. Regis properties, the W, Le Méridien, both Westins, the Sheraton, the Ritz-Carlton in the Maldives, the Ritz-Carlton Reserve, the Fiji Marriott and the Royalton Antigua (Autograph Collection) are part of the Marriott Bonvoy program.
Read our guide to saving on hotels with points to discover how to accumulate enough points to book an overwater villa at a luxury resort. And don’t forget to use the fifth-night-free tip to get the most out of your points! When you’re there, don’t forget to pay for all your hotel expenses with your Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card to quickly accumulate points for more free nights.

The other properties in this guide are booked differently. The InterContinental belongs to IHG One Rewards, the two Conrads and the Waldorf Astoria to Hilton Honors, the Park Hyatt to World of Hyatt and the Sofitel to ALL Accor. However, the Sandals resorts (Jamaica, Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent), the Four Seasons, Cayo Espanto, Song Saa, Nayara, El Dorado Maroma, the Taj, the Six Senses and Le Taha’a are not part of any hotel program whose points you can use. Through a travel portal, you can still book them using points from various travel credit cards.
For example, with TD Rewards points, you can go through Expedia for TD to earn or redeem points on your hotel reservation, and use the TD First Class Travel® Visa Infinite* Card as a payment method to take advantage of travel insurance while earning even more points. These destinations, whether near the coast or in the open sea, are accessible with a good points strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a night in an overwater villa cost?
Prices vary by destination, resort and season, and climb quickly in French Polynesia and the Maldives. To see the rate for your dates, open the hotel calendar on its website, then compare it with the points price shown by its loyalty program: that tells you whether to pay in cash or in points.
When is the best time to book an overwater villa?
The best time to visit depends on the selected destination. For the Maldives, prioritize the dry season (November to April). For Polynesia, choose the period from May to October. In the Caribbean, hurricane season runs from June to November: check the hotel closure announcements before you book. We recommend booking 6 to 12 months ahead to keep your choice of villas.
Are overwater villas suitable for families with children?
Although luxurious, not all overwater villas are suited for families with young children. Nayara Bocas del Toro and the palafitos at El Dorado Maroma are adults-only, while the Four Seasons Bora Bora presents itself as a family-friendly hotel. Check the specific policies of the establishment and choose villas equipped with safety railings if necessary.
Should you choose an all-inclusive package?
It depends on the resort. Sandals and Royalton Antigua are all-inclusive. Elsewhere, add meals to the total cost of your stay before you compare hotels.
Where to Find Overwater Villas?
You will mostly find overwater villas in tropical destinations known for their lagoons: French Polynesia (Bora Bora, Moorea, Tahaa) and the Maldives. The Caribbean (Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Antigua), Mexico, Panama, Belize, Fiji, Cambodia and Saudi Arabia, on the Red Sea, offer them too.
Can you pay for an overwater villa with Marriott, Hilton or Hyatt points?
Yes, at several hotels in this guide. The St. Regis properties, the W, Le Méridien, the Westins, the Sheraton, both Ritz-Carltons, the Fiji Marriott and the Royalton Antigua can be booked with Marriott Bonvoy points. The Conrads and the Waldorf Astoria Maldives can be paid for with Hilton Honors points, and the Park Hyatt Maldives Hadahaa with World of Hyatt points. Compare the points price for your dates with the cash price before you book.
Which overwater villas are closed or reopening soon?
According to Sandals, Sandals South Coast in Jamaica reopens on November 18, 2026, and Sandals Caribbean Cay on December 18, 2026. The InterContinental Bora Bora Thalasso has been closed since June 1, 2026, and is due to reopen as the Regent Bora Bora in late 2027. At the Conrad Maldives, The Muraka residence is being renovated until December 15, 2026. Always check the hotel's status for your dates before you book.
