The WestJet RBC Credit Cards

In Canada, two WestJet RBC cards are available to the public, in addition to a card designed for businesses. All of them earn WestJet points, the currency of the WestJet Rewards program since its overhaul.

  • WestJet World Elite Mastercard RBC: the premium card, with the best companion voucher and free first checked bag.
  • WestJet Mastercard RBC: the low-annual-fee version, ideal for getting started.
  • WestJet World Elite Mastercard for Business RBC: the version designed for business spending.

How to compare them

To choose the right WestJet card, keep these four criteria in mind. First, the annual fee: it determines the spending threshold needed to make the card worthwhile. Next, the travel companion voucher, often the most valuable perk. Also, the earn rates in your everyday spending categories. Finally, the minimum income required, which varies by card type.

WestJet World Elite Mastercard RBC

The WestJet World Elite Mastercard RBC is the most generous WestJet card. Its annual fee is $139 ($59 per additional card), and it requires a minimum income of $80,000 individually or $150,000 per household.

Earning points

  • 2 WestJet points per dollar on WestJet flights and vacation packages
  • 2 WestJet points per dollar on groceries and transit
  • 1.5 WestJet points per dollar on all other purchases

Card benefits

  • Annual travel companion voucher, starting at $119 CAD (plus taxes and fees) for a round trip
  • Option to exchange the voucher for a 30% discount, a $200 travel credit, or two airport lounge visits
  • Free first checked bag for the cardholder and up to eight companions on the same booking
  • No foreign transaction fees

Who is this card for?

This card is aimed at regular WestJet travellers who spend enough to reach the companion voucher threshold. In fact, a single round trip with a companion easily covers the annual fee. Plus, free baggage check-in adds value from the very first family trip.

What about businesses?

If you have business expenses, the WestJet World Elite Mastercard for Business RBC carries over the benefits of the World Elite version while adapting to the needs of business owners. It can help separate your personal and business spending, all while earning WestJet points on your business expenses.

Comparing with other travel cards

Before deciding, also compare the WestJet World Elite Mastercard RBC with other popular travel cards in Canada.

Which WestJet card should you choose?

In short, the choice mainly depends on how often you travel. For a regular family traveller, the WestJet World Elite Mastercard RBC offers the best value thanks to its more affordable companion voucher and free baggage check-in. For an occasional traveller mindful of fees, the WestJet Mastercard RBC remains a good starting point.

Before choosing, also compare these cards with other options on the market. In fact, a transferable points card can sometimes offer more flexibility than a co-branded card tied to a single airline.

WestJet Cards – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best WestJet credit card in Canada?

For most regular travellers, the WestJet World Elite Mastercard RBC is the best option thanks to its companion voucher starting at $119 CAD, free first checked bag, and enhanced earn rates. The WestJet Mastercard RBC, with a $39 annual fee, remains a good choice for occasional travellers.

What is a WestJet point?

The WestJet point is the currency of the WestJet Rewards program, which replaced WestJet dollars. You earn points on your purchases and on your WestJet trips, then redeem them to pay for flights, vacation packages, or hotel stays.

Is the WestJet travel companion voucher worth it?

Yes, in most cases. With the World Elite version, you pay from $119 CAD (plus taxes and fees) for a companion’s ticket on a round trip. On a transcontinental flight, the savings often exceed the $139 annual fee. That said, factor in the fuel surcharge and the $5,000 annual spending threshold in effect since 2026.

What income do you need for a WestJet World Elite card?

The WestJet World Elite Mastercard RBC requires a minimum income of $80,000 individually or $150,000 per household. The WestJet Mastercard RBC does not impose a high income threshold, making it more accessible.

Can you check a bag for free with a WestJet card?

Yes, but only with the WestJet World Elite Mastercard RBC. The primary cardholder and up to eight companions travelling on the same booking benefit from a free first checked bag. The $39 version does not include this perk.

Can you transfer WestJet points to another program?

No. WestJet points cannot be transferred to another loyalty program. You can only use them to pay for flights, vacation packages, or hotel stays within the WestJet ecosystem.

Is a WestJet card better than an Aeroplan card?

It mainly depends on your flying habits. If you fly mostly with WestJet, the WestJet card remains advantageous thanks to its companion voucher. However, a card like the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card offers more flexibility if you also fly with Air Canada and its Star Alliance partners. Our detailed comparison can help you decide.
