Chexy for Small Business: Earn Up to 100,000 Aeroplan Points

What is Chexy for Small Business?

Chexy is an online platform that allows you to pay suppliers or government agencies with a credit card, even if they do not accept cards directly. Instead, Chexy converts the payment into a bank transfer or pre-authorized debit that the recipient normally receives.

Recently, Chexy has introduced a solution specifically designed for:

• Small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs)
• Self-employed workers
• Incorporated companies

The platform accepts Visa and American Express, including business credit cards, which opens the door to many optimization strategies.

Here are some of the payment options available with Chexy:

• Suppliers of goods or services
• Commercial landlords (rent)
• Accountants, lawyers, consultants
• Taxes (GST, QST, instalments, income tax)
• Payroll deductions for employees

Businesses Supported by Chexy

Here are some of the sectors served by the platform:

• Healthcare and clinics: doctors, dentists, physiotherapists and pharmacy owners
• Professional firms and advisors: lawyers, accountants, consultants and advisors from all walks of life
• Retail, restaurant and service businesses: retailers, restaurateurs and managers of high-volume operations
• Freelancers, contractors and remote operators: freelancers, contractors, online vendors, and self-employed professionals

Chexy Benefits for Businesses

Earn Points and Miles on Your Business Expenses

Using a rewards credit card to pay for business expenses allows you to earn points or miles on purchases you would be making anyway.

Here are some examples:

• The Marriott Bonvoy^® Business American Express^®* Card earns points toward free nights.
• The Business Platinum Card^® from American Express offers extremely flexible points that can be converted into airline miles (Aeroplan, Avios, etc.), hotel points (Marriott and Hilton) or redeemed for any purchase.

With Chexy, you can earn and maximize these rewards, even if your suppliers don’t accept credit cards.

Moreover, these business expenses, often recurring and substantial, can help to more easily reach the thresholds required to unlock welcome bonuses, especially those that require high spending volumes. What may represent a challenge for an individual often becomes a simple necessary step for a company, especially when it comes to settling large amounts, such as rent or taxes.

Improve Cash Flow Management

By using a credit card for your payments via Chexy, you benefit from the payment period (up to 55 days) offered by certain payment cards. This allows you to better manage your cash flow, especially during periods of tight cash flow. Indeed, the Business Platinum Card^® from American Express, which is a payment card, has no pre-established credit limit and gives you a longer period than credit cards.

Then, if you strategically coincide your Chexy payment date with your statement issue date, you’ll have more time to pay before the due date.

No Impact on Supplier Relationships

Your suppliers simply receive a pre-authorized debit or bank transfer from you via Chexy. They have no action to take and no account to create.

You continue to receive invoices as usual, and Chexy takes care of the rest.

What Are Chexy’s Fees for Businesses?

Chexy charges a 1.75% service fee per transaction if you use a Canadian credit card. In addition, you have the opportunity to lower this rate by referring people. After referring 10 people, you will drop to a rate of 0.5%.

This is a huge advantage over competitors such as Paysimply and Plastiq.

• These costs are tax-deductible as financial expenses.
• They can pay for themselves if the value of the rewards accumulated exceeds the cost (see our guide to the value of points).

How to Pay a Supplier by Interac e-Transfer with Chexy?

As a business, you’re constantly faced with bills to pay. Whether it’s for your accountant, electrician, or another service provider, you can useChexy’s Interac e-Transfer feature. The supplier will receive the payment as if it were made directly from your bank account.

To proceed, simply select the « Set up a single payment » option, choose the appropriate category for the supplier (select « Household and miscellaneous expenses » if there is no exact match), then select « Interac e-Transfer » as the payment method.

Paying Business Taxes with Chexy

Business taxes represent a major expense for entrepreneurs.

With Chexy, you can pay:

• GST/QST
• Corporate income tax (provincial or federal)
• Installments
• Payroll deductions

And all using your credit card. The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) or Revenu Quebec receive a bank transfer, just as if you had paid them directly.

In return, you earn points or miles on an expense that would normally earn you nothing.

How to Generate Banking Information for a Pre-Authorized Debit on Chexy?

To generate a specimen check and set up pre-authorized payments for your business, click on the « Business Taxes and Payments » option and Chexy will generate the information associated with a specimen check. Since Chexy‘s small business program is still in beta, the site has not yet been fully adapted to reflect this new feature.

Next, select « Pre-Authorized Debit. »

Here is the banking information to enter for the Canada Revenue Agency:

• Supplier name: Canada Revenue Agency (or whatever you prefer)
• Supplier email: info@cra.ca
• Supplier’s telephone number: 1-800-959-8281
• Supplier’s address: 275 Rue Pope, Summerside, PEI, Canada

You can then specify the amount to be paid each month and the payment due date. Please bear in mind the processing time required to set up or modify a Chexy pre-authorized debit, which is approximately five business days. It’s recommended to choose a payment date a bit earlier than your actual due date to avoid any last-minute issues.

After this step, you’ll receive a specimen cheque from Chexy containing all the banking information you need:

• account number
• transit number
• branch number

The financial institution used by Chexy is Peoples Trust Company based in Vancouver.

How to Set Up a Pre-Authorized Debit with the Canada Revenue Agency?

If you don’t already have pre-authorized payments in place, go to your business account on the Canada Revenue Agency website.

Under the « corporate taxes » section, click on « view and pay account balance. »

At the start of the process, you’ll be asked to specify the tax period and payment amount. Then, as you continue through the steps, you’ll have the opportunity to choose your payment method.

Then, enter the amounts, frequency, number of payments, and the date of the first payment. Make sure the details match with Chexy’s.

The Canada Revenue Agency allows different payment frequencies, but Chexy only supports monthly pre-authorized debits. Therefore, if you’re on a quarterly basis, you’ll need to contact your accountant to make the change. However, you can still set up the monthly debit with Chexy and then pause it to resume on the correct date.

Finally, you’ll be asked for the bank details you generated with Chexy in the previous section.

For payroll deductions, you can follow the same steps by clicking on « Payroll deductions ».

How to Modify a Pre-Authorized Debit with the Canada Revenue Agency?

To modify an existing pre-authorized debit (for example, if you were already doing so via your bank account), click on « Manage pre-authorized debits ». Then select the one you wish to modify and enter the new bank details provided by Chexy.

Please note that it takes approximately five working days for the change to take effect. Therefore, this option may not be available if you are too close to the deadline.

How to Make a One-Time Payment with the Canada Revenue Agency?

For the time being, the only way to do this is to follow the steps above by setting up a pre-authorized debit and canceling or pausing it after a first payment. Chexy is working to simplify the process.

On the Canada Revenue Agency website, you have the option of choosing the number of payments. So, if you specify only one payment, only one payment will be made. On the Chexy side, however, there is no option to select a single payment. However, you can delete it or pause it very easily.

How to Set Up a Pre-Authorized Debit with Revenu Quebec?

Unlike the Canada Revenue Agency, it is not yet possible to make payments by pre-authorized debit with Revenu Quebec. This feature is still in the testing phase, and the section will be updated in due course when the option is officially available.

How to Make a One-Time Payment with Revenu Quebec?

To make a one-time payment with Revenu Quebec, start by logging into your company account on the Revenu Quebec website. In the « Corporate taxes » section, you’ll find a 20-character payment code (numbers and letters).

Copy this code, then go to the Chexy platform and select the « Pay income tax » option. As Chexy for small businesses is still in beta phase, it’s normal for the site to display the statement: « We only support, individual taxpayments. «

That said, as long as your Chexy account is properly categorized and verified as a small business account (as explained earlier in this article), the payment will indeed be processed correctly through this channel.

You will then be able to see the payment received in the transaction history of your Revenu Québec account. Allow about three business days for Chexy to process the payment, plus a few additional days before it appears on your statement.

Is Chexy Worth It for My Business?

Business expenses can be enormous. Corporate taxes, for example, are often substantial. And, frankly, having to pay them out of the company’s bank account without getting anything in return can seem frustrating.

This is where Chexy for small businesses makes all the difference. Thanks to reasonable fees of 1.75% and the categorization of payments as recurring, this solution becomes a true strategic lever. As long as the value of the rewards obtained exceeds the costs incurred, the operation is profitable.

Let’s take a concrete example: if you use the Business Platinum Card^® from American Express with a valuation of 2¢ per point, you come out ahead. The points accumulated can quickly offset, or even exceed, the fees charged. If you don’t already have this card in your wallet, now is a good time to get it and take advantage of Chexy to help you unlock a very generous bonus!

In fact, paying these fees has always been a smart decision when it comes to unlocking a welcome bonus. The value of the points earned usually far exceeds the cost of the transaction. Even when there’s no bonus at stake, these business payments still need to be made, so it makes sense to maximize their value with a solution likeChexy. This way, you turn a fixed, unavoidable expense into a tool to help you travel more (or save more).

Bottom Line

Chexy for small businesses is a powerful tool for Canadian SMEs and self-employed individuals. It allows you to optimize your spending, accumulate points or miles and keep control over your cash flow.

If you’re looking for a simple way to boost your business expenses, including tax payments, Chexy is a smart and effective solution.
