Rogers Adds a 1.6% Fee for Paying Your Bill by Credit Card Starting January 17, 2027

Starting January 17, 2027, Rogers is adding a 1.6% credit card processing charge to every bill payment made by credit card, whether through Auto-Pay or a one-time payment. The fee also applies to Fido bills, and there is no exemption for Rogers Bank credit cards.
For Rogers Red Mastercard holders, the math changes: the up to 5% cash back on eligible Rogers purchases that starts November 18, 2026 loses 1.6 points as soon as you pay your bill by credit card. Here is who pays the Rogers credit card fee, who is exempt, and how to avoid it.
From January 17, 2027, every Rogers bill paid by credit card carries a fee equal to 1.6% of the amount paid. It applies to Auto-Pay and to one-time payments. Here is what it means on a typical bill:
For a one-time payment, you see the breakdown (bill amount, fee and applicable taxes) before confirming. With Auto-Pay, your monthly bill shows the fee and the date your card will be charged. Your credit card statement only shows the total.
Quebec customers are not subject to the 1.6% fee, since the province's Consumer Protection Act prohibits this type of surcharge.
Customers on select specialized plans such as Connected for Success, and former Shaw Mobile customers on migrated plans, are also exempt. Chatr customers are not affected.
Fido bills, on the other hand, are covered just like Rogers bills.
Following Rogers Bank's changes, Rogers Red Mastercard cards earn up to 5% cash back on eligible Rogers purchases starting November 18, 2026, subject to each card's annual cap. The 1.5x redemption bonus ends the same day.
The 1.6% fee applies to every credit card, Rogers Bank cards included. Your real return on a Rogers bill paid by credit card is your card's cash back rate minus 1.6%.
A card that earns less than the fee loses money on every bill payment.
| Card cash back rate | Rogers fee | Approximate net return |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 5% (Rogers Bank cards, eligible Rogers purchases from November 18, 2026) | 1.6% | Up to about 3.4% |
| 2% | 1.6% | About 0.4% |
| 1% | 1.6% | About -0.6% (loss) |
Since September 15, 2026 for mobile services, the Auto-Pay Discount is only available when eligible services are paid by pre-authorized debit or with a Rogers Bank credit card. For home services, the rule covers changes made since July 23, 2026.
A card from another issuer therefore loses the discount AND pays the 1.6% fee. A Rogers Bank card keeps the discount but still pays the fee. Pre-authorized debit keeps the discount with no fee, but earns no cash back.
Before January 17, 2027, compare two scenarios using your own bill:
To switch to pre-authorized debit, sign in to MyRogers, select Billing and payment, then Change payment method. Make the change at least 48 hours before your withdrawal date for it to apply to the next payment.
If you were using your Rogers bill to reach a minimum spend or earn points on another card, that spending now costs more. To find a better card for the rest of your purchases, see our best credit cards ranking or our Neo vs Rogers comparison.
Starting January 17, 2027, paying a Rogers or Fido bill by credit card costs 1.6%, except in Quebec and on a few exempt plans. What to do depends on your card:
