Buy Points: Get a 40% Bonus When You Buy British Airways Club Avios
To the point British Airways Club allows you to buy Avios at any time, with bonus promotions of up to 40% returning 2 to 3 times per year.

Buying Avios: what it costs

A 40% bonus is the British Airways Club program’s historical ceiling, and it comes back two to three times a year. It brings buying Avios from the British Airways Club program down to about 1.65 US cents per mile. The last offer, from July 9 to July 16, 2026, has ended.

This promotion occurs approximately 2-3 times a year. The 40% bonus is the highest the program has ever offered.

Thus, during that last promotion, by buying 100,000 Avios, it was possible to get a total of 140,000 Avios for $2,315 USD, which is 1.65 cents USD per mile (or approximately 2.28 Canadian cents per mile).

Knowing that we value this currency at 1.7 Canadian cents per mile, this is not an excellent deal. Anything less than 1.7 cents per Avios would be a bargain. Higher than 1.7 cents, it’s not very profitable.

But this kind of promotion doesn’t happen often, so you might want to take advantage of it! Additionally, the purchase cap is 200,000 Avios per calendar year, before bonus. With a 40% bonus, that comes to as much as 280,000 Avios for the year.

Nevertheless: buying Avios could help you if you’re short on Avios to book an award flight (and you’ve exhausted all other options for getting Avios via credit cards).

A Credit Card with No Foreign Transaction Fees

All these programs are transfer partners with British Airways Club. So you can easily transfer your points to Avios.

Here are the best credit card offers from these different programs:

And you can even get them directly with the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite Card (which is on promotion currently)!

Conclusion

Is it worthwhile to buy Avios? As with any points and miles purchase, it will depend on the circumstances. You’ll need to decide based on award flights you wish to book very soon.
