If you’re looking for a way to earn some extra WestJet points to get you travelling sooner, you definitely need to check out the WestJet Rewards eStore.
In this article, we explain how you can use the WestJet Rewards eStore to earn points when shopping with some of your favourite brands, and how you can then redeem your points for free travel, gift cards, merchandise, and more.
The WestJet Rewards eStore is a shopping portal that lets WestJet Rewards members earn WestJet points on purchases made a number of popular brands like Apple, Lululemon, Amazon, Sephora, and more.
To access the WestJet Rewards eStore, you simply need to be a WestJet Rewards member and enter your login information. If you’re not already a member, joining is easy and free! Simply go to the WestJet Rewards website, click “Join Rewards,” and enter the required information.
The WestJet Rewards eStore is an easy way to earn additional WestJet points when you spend money with many of your favourite brands. This means that you can earn WestJet points on items that you would be purchasing anyways, and it lets you earn WestJet points without having to spend money on flights.
Essentially the WestJet Rewards eStore is a free way to get a bonus when you spend your money, so really there’s no reason not to use it.
Additionally, your accumulated WestJet points can be used for redemptions through the eStore, giving you another way to redeem in case you don’t plan to take any trips in the future.
Earning rates with the WestJet Rewards eStore range from a base rate of 1 point per $1 spent all the way up to 5 points per $1 spent. Plus the eStore and it’s partnered retailers also offer limited-time bonus earning events during which you can see elevated earning rates for your favourite products.
The first step to using the WestJet shopping portal is to go to the WestJet Rewards eStore website and log in to your WestJet Rewards account.
As we mentioned above, if you’re not yet a WestJet Rewards member, you can easily join for free.
Next, click on “earn points” to explore the different retailers available.
Once you’ve chosen the retailer you’d like to spend money with, click on their name.
As you can see in the images above, the earning rate for each retailer is listed. You can also see that some of the rates are only for a limited time, so you’ll want to act quickly in these cases to lock in those earnings.
Once you’ve clicked on the retailer of your choice, you’ll be taken to a page with a few more details, including instructions on how to earn and the terms and conditions for the transaction.
To continue with your purchase, click “Shop Now.”
You’ll now be redirected to the retailer’s own homepage where you can shop and purchase as normal while earning WestJet points.
The most important thing to keep in mind with this process is that you must access the retailer’s website by clicking through the WestJet Rewards eStore link, and you cannot navigate away from the webpage while you’re doing your shopping.
You won’t need to enter your WestJet Rewards ID on the retailer’s page. In order to get your WestJet points, just stay on the page that opens from the WestJet Rewards eStore and complete your purchase (some background internet magic is used to track everything).
To ensure you get your WestJet points, make sure you don’t:
Once your purchase is complete, you can watch for your points to arrive in your account by logging in to your WestJet Rewards account and clicking “Account Activity.”
From here, you can sort your account activity by points redeemed, points earned, credit card points, and other (like bonus points).
If you’re really looking to maximize the number of WestJet points you earn with your purchases, you’ll want to use one of WestJet’s co-branded credit cards for the payment.
By using either the WestJet RBC Mastercard or the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard, you’ll earn points twice! Earn once through the eStore shopping portal and then again thanks to the earning rates with the WestJet credit card.
For example, if you spent $200 on Lululemon using the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard, you’ll earn 600 WestJet points through the eStore (based on the limited-time elevated rate of 3 points/$1) plus 300 WestJet points with your credit card (thanks to it’s earning rate of 1.5 points per $1 spent on everyday purchases).
This gives you a total of 900 WestJet points earned on regular retail purchase, getting you that much closer to a free flight.
It can take up to 30 days for your points to post to your account, so keep your eyes out to make sure you receive the correct number of points.
Additionally, every once in awhile some earned points seem to get lost on their way to your account. If the 30 days have passed and you haven’t seen your points, you can contact customer service.
It can be good practice to take a screenshot of the posted earning rate with the date of the purchase visible for your records in case there’s a discrepancy when the points arrive (or in case they don’t arrive within the expected time frame).
WestJet points can be redeemed a few different ways depending on your preferences and priorities. Here are your redemption options:
Through the WestJet Rewards eStore, you can redeem your points for gift cards, merchandise, and more. Your choices include products from WestJet’s partnered merchants, letting you exchange your WestJet points for things like Dyson vacuum cleaners, Le Creuset cookware, or a brand new iPad.
The cost of the merchandise vary, as you can see from the images below.
Comparatively, the redemption cost for gift cards through the eStore are fixed as follows:
Now since WestJet points are worth 1 cent each, the gift card and merchandise redemption options aren’t generally the best value you can get. That said, if you don’t think you’ll use your points for a flight or vacation, or you just have your eye on a specific merchandise/gift card redemption, you should definitely go ahead – the best redemption is the one that suits you!
Alternatively, you can redeem your points for their value of 1 cent each for WestJet flights and WestJet/Sunwing Vacation packages. With this value, it means that the 900 WestJet points you earned on your $200 Lululemon purchase above is worth a $9 discount off your next trip with WestJet.
And while this may not seem like a lot, remember that these are points you’ve earned without spend anything extra and without flying. By simply starting your purchase from the WestJet Rewards eStore, you’ve essentially earned $9 back. If you were to do this for more of your purchases, the earnings would certainly add up fast!
The WestJet Rewards eStore is a great way to amplify your WestJet points earning and help you enjoy free or discounted flights, vacations, gift cards, and more faster.
