American Express cardholders will receive a credit of $1 for each eligible dollar spent, up to a maximum of US$100. It will be paid in US dollars or the equivalent in local currency, depending on the exchange rate on the day of arrival.
Make the most of it, because this credit is lost if you don’t use it all!
The credit will be deducted from the final bill upon departure from the hotel. On arrival, ask about the services where you can use your US$100 credit, as it varies according to the establishment and the facilities available.
The limit is a credit of US$100 per room per stay.
Room upgrade
Superior rooms are subject to availability upon arrival at the hotel.
There is therefore no guarantee of an upgrade, and you will only find out at check-in.
How to book with The Hotel Collection
On The Hotel Collection by American Express website, enter the name of your destination or hotel, along with the desired dates, and click on Search.
Choose the hotel and room you want. The price shown represents the average room rate per night, including taxes.
When you click on the Selected box, you will have the option of paying now or at the hotel. You will then be directed to the reservation page, where you can use your Membership Rewards points to pay for your stay, choose to use your annual travel credit if applicable, and confirm your reservation.
Is The Hotel Collection worth it?
Before booking, be sure to check the hotel’s website to see if you’re getting a good deal.
For example, for the Hotel Humaniti Montréal, Autograph Collection, the standard price of $355 for the same room with taxes is the same as that found on The Hotel Collection website.
However, there may be a special offer on the hotel website that makes the stay cheaper. A search on the Marriott Bonvoy website for the Humaniti Hotel reveals a special offer of $284 per night.
In this case, it may be more advantageous to book directly on the hotel’s website, as this saves $142 for the 2 nights. Calculate to see if the $100 US credit (or about $137 CAD) is worth it.
Bottom Line
The Hotel Collection from American Express is a solution that allows travelers to experience exceptional stays with a little extra.
The important thing is to make sure that the savings and benefits are real for you!
