Condor from Canada: flights, cabins and points guide

Condor connects Canada with Frankfurt and offers onward journeys to other European destinations. When comparing a cash ticket with a points booking, check the operating airline, the cabin and the program issuing the ticket.

This guide combines current information on Condor flights from Canada with Tom’s impressions from his own short-haul Economy flights.

About Condor

Condor Flugdienst GmbH is a German leisure airline operating flights from Frankfurt. Its network offers onward connections, depending on schedules and ticket conditions.

Condor Airline – Aircraft Fleet

Condor uses the Airbus A330neo on long-haul flights, with three cabins. Check its official fleet page and your flight’s seat map; aircraft substitutions remain possible.

Condor is also renewing its short- and medium-haul fleet. Your European connection may therefore have a different cabin product from the transatlantic flight.

Condor’s brand identity “Condor is vacation. And vacation is stripes.” is well established in the new aircraft livery and you can easily spot Condor planes with their bold colors and distinctive stripes.

Condor from Canada: Toronto, Vancouver and Calgary

Condor’s official Canadian route map lists year-round Toronto–Frankfurt service and seasonal flights from Vancouver and Calgary. Check the dates offered for your trip rather than assuming every route has the same operating schedule.

Condor also markets departures from other Canadian cities through partners. A booking from Montréal or Edmonton may involve a connection. An origin offered in a booking engine does not establish that Condor operates a nonstop flight from that city.

At Frankfurt, check the connection time, onward operating carrier and ticket conditions. One booking and two separate tickets provide different protection after a missed connection. Compare our Lufthansa guide from Canada as another option.

Condor Airlines – Travel Classes and Fares

Condor offers three travel classes catered to the destination and length of the flight. Condor’s fleet includes planes with both two-cabin and three-cabin configurations. You can book your seat while purchasing your flight accordingly and check the seatmap in advance. The service of the travel classes may differ based on short vs. medium vs. long-haul.

Economy

Fares vary by route. Compare baggage, seat selection, changes, and refunds in your booking conditions.

If connecting within Europe, look at the second aircraft as well. The short-haul cabin differs from the long-haul product, and aircraft substitutions remain possible.

Premium Economy

Premium Economy offers more legroom, among other differences. It should not be confused with the flat seat in Business Class. Check the flight’s seat map and your chosen position before paying extra.

Business

Condor’s Airbus A330neo page presents its three long-haul cabins. Long-haul Business Class provides fully flat seats. Prime Seats are specific seats within that cabin; compare their features with the requested supplement.

Baggage, fares and lounges

Condor’s checked baggage conditions depend on the route and fare. For Canada, the table lists:

Economy Zero: no checked baggage.
Economy Classic, Choice, or Flex: 1 × 23 kg.
Premium Economy: 1 × 32 kg.
Business: 2 × 32 kg.

The page also announces a general allowance change from May 1, 2027. A future policy should not be applied to a 2026 departure. The cabin baggage rules separately cover a small personal item and an overhead cabin bag.

Add the bags, seat selection and services you need to the quoted fare. Read the change and refund conditions. When a partner operates part of the journey, check its segment’s conditions too.

For lounge access, read the Frankfurt airport information and the eligibility attached to your ticket. Credit card lounge benefits depend on the network and terminal; they do not automatically cover every lounge Condor uses.

Points: Atmos Rewards and Etihad Guest

Atmos Rewards’ Condor partner page confirms online award bookings through Alaska Airlines or Hawaiian Airlines. Partner seats may differ from Condor’s cash inventory. Search for your party size, dates and cabin before buying points.

The Etihad Guest Condor page also confirms eligible awards on Condor-operated flights under the DE code. Codeshares are excluded. Taxes, fuel surcharges and other charges are extra, and these conditions do not permit miles upgrades on Condor.

The American Express Cobalt^® Card earns Membership Rewards points. American Express offers statement credits using points, subject to its terms. Compare the credit’s value with the price of your Condor ticket.

Direct Amex Canada transfers to Etihad Guest ended on June 20, 2026. We therefore do not present this as a current way to fund Etihad Guest. Cobalt does not provide direct transfers to Atmos Rewards either. Offsetting a purchase and booking a partner award are distinct uses of points.

The welcome bonus is paid out monthly over your first 12 months. You earn 1,250 Membership Rewards points for each monthly billing period in which you charge $750 in net purchases to your card, in any category (1X, 2X, 3X or 5X). That adds up to 15,000 Membership Rewards points over the year, a welcome offer valued at $255.

Earning the full bonus means $9,000 in net purchases spread across 12 monthly billing periods. This offer rewards steady monthly spending rather than one large purchase.

1 additional point on eligible hotel and car rental bookings made through American Express Travel Online.
1X point per dollar on everything else, with no category restrictions.
Points that hold the same value either way: 1,000 points = $10 as a statement credit, or a 1:1 transfer to several airline and hotel loyalty programs.
No minimum income requirement, as with every American Express Canada card.

The 5X categories and where they apply

The 5X rate is the reason most people carry this card. In Canada it covers three kinds of merchants:

Groceries: Metro, IGA, Sobeys, Super C, Safeway, Whole Foods.
Restaurants and bars: sit-down meals, takeout and drinks.
Home food delivery.
Convenience stores (Couche-Tard, 7-Eleven): not part of 5X, 1 point per dollar.

The 2X rate covers gas stations such as Esso, Shell and Petro-Canada, along with public transit and ride sharing.

With the American Express Cobalt^® Card, you earn between 1 and 5 points per dollar:

That works out to a 1 to 5% return on those purchases. For example, if you spend $1,000 per month across groceries, restaurants and food delivery, you earn $50 back per month, or $600 per year from that category alone. Transfer the points to a program such as Aeroplan instead and the return can be higher.

You can also stack these categories with the hundreds of stores that offer 5x points.

American Express Cobalt^® Card insurance coverage

The card comes with a broad insurance package. The amounts below are the coverage limits; conditions, age limits and exclusions are set out in the certificate of insurance linked in the Insurance section above.

Travel insurance

Emergency medical: up to $5,000,000 for the first 15 days of a trip.
Travel accident: accidental death and dismemberment of up to $250,000 for you, your spouse and dependent children under age 23 when travelling on a common carrier (plane, train, bus or ship) and the tickets are charged to your card. Supplementary cardholders and their families are covered too.
Flight delay: up to $500 for necessary hotel, meal and sundry expenses bought within 48 hours when you are delayed or denied boarding for four hours or more and no other transportation is available. This $500 is an aggregate limit per occurrence, shared with missed connection and delayed baggage coverage.
Delayed baggage: up to $500 for essential clothing and sundries bought within four days when your outbound luggage is delayed six hours or more. This $500 is an aggregate limit per occurrence, shared with missed connection and flight delay coverage.
Lost or stolen baggage: up to $500 per occurrence for all insured persons combined, for checked or carry-on baggage and personal effects in transit, when the airline tickets are charged to your card. Within that limit, jewellery is capped at $300 per occurrence and golf clubs, including golf bags, at $250 per occurrence.
Hotel and motel burglary: up to $500 against the loss of most personal items if your hotel or motel is burglarized, when the stay is charged to your card.

Rental car insurance

Theft and damage coverage is included for a rental car with an MSRP, for its model year, of up to $85,000 excluding all taxes, for rentals of up to 48 days. To use it, decline the Loss Damage Waiver (LDW) or any similar option from the rental company and charge the full rental to your card. There is no cost for this coverage, and it replaces the daily insurance the rental company charges, usually $16 to $23 per day.

Mobile device insurance

Your device is covered for up to $1,000 per occurrence when it is charged to the card, for up to two years from the date of purchase. The payout is based on the depreciated value of the device, which falls by 2% of the purchase price for every completed month, less a 10% deductible. Theft and accidental damage coverage starts on the 91st day after purchase, because the first 90 days are covered by purchase protection.

Purchase protection and extended warranty

Eligible items charged to your card are insured against accidental physical damage or theft for 90 days from the purchase date, up to $1,000 per occurrence for all items combined. The card also extends the original manufacturer’s warranty by up to one additional year on eligible items, with indemnification limited to $10,000 per insured item and $25,000 per Cardmember per policy year for all items combined.

American Express Cobalt^® Card fees

Card fee: $15.99 per month, which equals $191.88 per year, for residents outside Quebec. Quebec residents are billed $191.88 per year.
Additional cards: $0.
Purchase interest rate: 21.99%.
Cash advance interest rate: 21.99%.
Foreign transaction fee: 2.5%.
Minimum income required: none.

Because the fee is billed monthly rather than in one annual charge, you can stop and restart the cost in step with how much you are actually using the card.

Buying points for an available trip

Alaska provides a link to buy Atmos Rewards points. First search for the Condor award you need. A purchase does not hold the seat or secure its price while points are being credited.

Add the missing points’ purchase cost to the award’s taxes and fees. Compare the total with a cash ticket, including required baggage. Check points expiry and the issuing program’s cancellation terms. Topping up for a particular available flight differs from buying a balance without a planned use.

Condor Airlines – General Review

I personally have flown a few times with Condor economy in the past for short flights – nothing too memorable stands out besides it being a leisure airline that I connect a bit with nice holiday memories. The economy standard is comparable to other airlines.

What really intrigues me is the new long-haul business class… but unfortunately, I don’t have such a flight planned yet. Thus, I also asked a bit in my personal frequent flyer circles as well as digging a bit through online reviews to distill the following:

What’s good

Condor excels with its modern fleet, extensive route network, and relatively appropriate comfort across all classes. The recent upgrades to their business class have been particularly well-received and friendly staff has been mentioned various times as a plus point. Overall, the good value for price and the possibility to find a great travel deal is a significant driver for the popularity of Condor.

What’s bad

Some travelers find the economy class legroom a bit limited compared to other airlines and some older planes may not have all modern amenities. Additionally, some reviews mention that the boarding process can be less organized during peak travel periods as destinations are usually popular tourist destinations.

Some passengers have reported issues with lost luggage and customer service responsiveness (but this is almost always the case with any airline?!)

I personally was probably lucky enough to not have any of these bad experiences above… and especially my airport time is quite relaxed usually due to lounge access via Priority Pass (that I got through my Amex Platinum).

Who owns Condor?

Attestor is Condor’s majority shareholder. Condor has announced the acquisition of the remaining 49% held on behalf of Germany’s federal government and Hesse. Closing is scheduled for August 31, 2027, so it has not yet taken place as of this update. See Condor’s official announcement.

Is Condor a good company?

Condor is an established German airline. In this article, Tom describes his own short-haul Economy flights; he has not tested long-haul Business Class. His review does not guarantee punctuality or baggage handling on your flight. Compare the route, cabin, and ticket conditions.

Condor Flugdienst GmbH is a German leisure airline operating flights from Frankfurt. Its network offers onward connections, depending on schedules and ticket conditions.

Condor Airline – Aircraft Fleet

Condor uses the Airbus A330neo on long-haul flights, with three cabins. Check its official fleet page and your flight’s seat map; aircraft substitutions remain possible.

Condor is also renewing its short- and medium-haul fleet. Your European connection may therefore have a different cabin product from the transatlantic flight.

If connecting within Europe, look at the second aircraft as well. The short-haul cabin differs from the long-haul product, and aircraft substitutions remain possible.

Economy Zero: no checked baggage.
Economy Classic, Choice, or Flex: 1 × 23 kg.
Premium Economy: 1 × 32 kg.
Business: 2 × 32 kg.

The 5X rate is the reason most people carry this card. In Canada it covers three kinds of merchants:

Groceries: Metro, IGA, Sobeys, Super C, Safeway, Whole Foods.
Restaurants and bars: sit-down meals, takeout and drinks.
Home food delivery.
Convenience stores (Couche-Tard, 7-Eleven): not part of 5X, 1 point per dollar.

The 2X rate covers gas stations such as Esso, Shell and Petro-Canada, along with public transit and ride sharing.

Emergency medical: up to $5,000,000 for the first 15 days of a trip.
Travel accident: accidental death and dismemberment of up to $250,000 for you, your spouse and dependent children under age 23 when travelling on a common carrier (plane, train, bus or ship) and the tickets are charged to your card. Supplementary cardholders and their families are covered too.
Flight delay: up to $500 for necessary hotel, meal and sundry expenses bought within 48 hours when you are delayed or denied boarding for four hours or more and no other transportation is available. This $500 is an aggregate limit per occurrence, shared with missed connection and delayed baggage coverage.
Delayed baggage: up to $500 for essential clothing and sundries bought within four days when your outbound luggage is delayed six hours or more. This $500 is an aggregate limit per occurrence, shared with missed connection and flight delay coverage.
Lost or stolen baggage: up to $500 per occurrence for all insured persons combined, for checked or carry-on baggage and personal effects in transit, when the airline tickets are charged to your card.
