Wealthsimple Credit Card: Review of the 3 Visa Infinite Cards

Wealthsimple Credit Card: Review of the 3 Visa Infinite Cards
Share

The Wealthsimple credit card is available in three Visa Infinite versions: the 1% no-fee (beta version), the Visa Infinite + with 2% cash back, and the Visa Infinite Privilege with an enhanced 2%. All three offer simple cash back on all purchases, with no categories or caps, and are reserved for eligible Wealthsimple clients.

Wealthsimple is expanding its ecosystem: check out our Wealthsimple Family review and the podcast interview with Simon Lejeune, Head of Growth.

The Wealthsimple credit card now exists in three versions in Canada: the Visa Infinite 1% (no fee, beta version), the Visa Infinite + (2% cash back), and the Visa Infinite Privilege. All three Wealthsimple credit cards offer simple cash back on all purchases, with no categories or caps.

Accessible to eligible Wealthsimple clients, this range integrates into the company’s ecosystem, including the chequing account and the investment platform. Depending on your status, annual fees may be waived, and the application is done entirely online.

Before applying, you may also want to know how Wealthsimple protects your money and data as a company: Is Wealthsimple Safe?

But are these cards among the best cash back credit cards in Canada? And more importantly, which one should you choose based on your profile? Here is our full review.

The Wealthsimple credit card lineup

Wealthsimple now offers three Visa Infinite credit cards, in addition to its prepaid Mastercard. Here is a quick overview to situate each option before diving into the details.

The Wealthsimple Visa Infinite 1% Card (beta version)

In June 2026, Wealthsimple added a third credit card to its lineup: the Visa Infinite 1% card. It carries the Visa Infinite name, but its operation differs from the 2% Visa Infinite +. For now, Wealthsimple is offering it only to invited clients, in beta, and without a waitlist.

This card targets a specific profile: those who want a Visa Infinite card with no annual fees and who accept a more modest base cash back rate. In exchange, it lets the cardholder build their own insurance coverage.

1% cash back, no annual fees

  • Unlimited 1% cash back: on all eligible purchases, with no categories or caps;
  • No annual fees: the card is free, unlike the Visa Infinite +;
  • No mobile contactless payment limit: you pay with your phone without a cap imposed by the card;
  • No welcome offer: unlike the Visa Infinite + and Visa Infinite Privilege, which have an exclusive welcome offer.

Beta version eligibility

Wealthsimple invites selected clients to try the card. To be eligible, you must generally meet one of the following criteria:

  • A personal income of at least $60,000;
  • A household income of at least $100,000;
  • At least $250,000 in savings or investment assets with Wealthsimple;
  • Or annual spending of at least $15,000 on your cards.

Choose 3 premium benefits

The main feature of the Visa Infinite 1% card: you customize your protections. At the time of application, you select 3 benefits from the list below. However, your choices remain locked for 12 months and you cannot change them after the application.

Additionally, two protections remain included by default, regardless of your choices: purchase security (up to $1,000 per claim, maximum $10,000) and extended warranty, which doubles the manufacturer’s repair period up to one year.

Benefit of your choiceCoverage
No Foreign Transaction FeeNo fees on every foreign currency transaction

In addition to your 3 choices, the card provides access to the usual Visa Infinite privileges: the Visa Infinite Luxury Hotel Collection, 24/7 concierge, the Visa Infinite Dining Series, the Wine Country program, and Booking.com benefits of up to 8% in travel credits.

The Visa Infinite 1% card is not yet open to everyone. To follow its rollout and compare the entire range, consult our Wealthsimple credit card comparison.

Visa Infinite + overview and eligibility

The Wealthsimple Visa Infinite + Card and the Visa Infinite Privilege are aimed at those looking for a simple and consistent 2% cash back, with no categories or restrictions.

Eligibility differs between the two cards. To be eligible for the Visa Infinite +, you must:

  • Be a Canadian resident and of legal age in your province;
  • Have a personal income of at least $80,000 or a household income of at least $150,000;
  • Hold a Wealthsimple account.

The Visa Infinite Privilege requires a higher threshold: a personal income of at least $150,000 or a household income of at least $200,000, or at least $400,000 in assets at Wealthsimple or annual spending of $50,000.

The application is done entirely via the Wealthsimple app. Even if you meet these criteria, approval is not guaranteed, as availability remains limited.

Monthly fees are $20, billed annually for Quebec residents. However, they may be waived if you are an Advantage or Generation client, or if you have an eligible direct payroll deposit.

Key features of the Visa Infinite +

Here are the elements that distinguish the Wealthsimple Visa Infinite + Card and influence its profitability:

  • Unlimited 2% cash back on all purchases, with no categories, no cap, and no exceptions;
  • No foreign currency conversion fees (2.5% savings);
  • No annual fees if you hold $100,000 or more in assets with Wealthsimple (Advantage or Generation status), or with an eligible direct payroll deposit;
  • Out-of-province or out-of-country emergency medical insurance;
  • Trip cancellation or interruption insurance;
  • Baggage insurance;
  • Purchase protection and mobile device insurance;
  • Extended warranty that doubles the manufacturer’s warranty period;
  • Access to Visa Infinite privileges.

Benefits of the Wealthsimple Visa Infinite + Card

The Wealthsimple Visa Infinite + Card stands out for its simplicity and 2% cash back on all purchases, with no categories or caps. You earn the same cash back on your daily expenses, travel, and international purchases, which simplifies reward management.

It charges no foreign currency conversion fees, a significant advantage for Canadians who travel regularly.

The card also includes comprehensive travel insurance: trip cancellation or interruption, delayed or lost baggage, and emergency medical coverage. The maximum coverage differs by version: $1M for the Visa Infinite + and $2M for the Visa Infinite Privilege, which illustrates the main difference between the two cards (Wealthsimple Infinite + vs. Infinite Privilege).

As a Visa Infinite card, it offers access to complimentary concierge service, exclusive offers at partner hotels and restaurants, and other premium privileges.

Finally, if you hold a premium Wealthsimple account (Advantage or Generation status) or set up an eligible direct payroll deposit, your annual fees may be fully waived, making this card very competitive in Canada.

Points to Consider

While Wealthsimple credit cards offer solid benefits, some aspects deserve your attention.

  • Monthly fees of $20 ($240 per year) on the Visa Infinite + and Privilege: without the waiver for premium clients or with direct deposit, you must generate approximately $12,000 in annual purchases to break even on these fees.
  • Only 1% cash back on the new Visa Infinite 1%: it eliminates monthly fees, but its base cash back rate is twice as low as that of the Visa Infinite +.
  • Limited availability: the Visa Infinite 1% is only offered to invited clients, and the other cards go through the Wealthsimple app, which may delay your enrollment.
  • Limited payment options: your credit card balance can only be settled from a Wealthsimple checking account.
  • Travel insurance: some protections have limitations for Quebec residents, which should be verified before traveling.
  • Welcome offer limited to 30 days: the Visa Infinite + and Privilege welcome offer (5% cash back on the first $10,000 in purchases in 30 days, up to $500) only applies to the 30 days after approval, and the Visa Infinite 1% has none.

Despite these points, the range remains attractive for those seeking simple and consistent cash back on all purchases, as well as centralized management within the Wealthsimple digital ecosystem.

Conclusion

The Wealthsimple Visa Infinite Card stands out for its simplicity: cash back on all purchases, with no categories and no cap, and no conversion fees. For travelers and foreign currency shoppers, this advantage alone can represent significant annual savings.

The range now covers three profiles. The new Visa Infinite 1% targets those who want a no-fee Visa Infinite card. The Visa Infinite + doubles the cash back to 2% and includes travel insurance. Finally, the Visa Infinite Privilege adds enhanced protections and high-end benefits.

Thus, if you are already a Wealthsimple client or wish to centralize your finances within a digital ecosystem, these cards can be particularly attractive. Furthermore, the potential waiver of annual fees depending on your status enhances their competitiveness.

In summary, Wealthsimple credit cards are simple, effective, and competitive in Canada. Your choice will mainly depend on your traveler profile, your fee tolerance, and your relationship with Wealthsimple. To follow the evolution of the beta version and our analyses, subscribe to our newsletter.

Wealthsimple Visa Infinite Card – FAQ

Which Wealthsimple credit cards are offered?

Wealthsimple offers three Visa Infinite credit cards: the Visa Infinite 1% (new, no-fee, beta version), the Visa Infinite + (2% cash back), and the Visa Infinite Privilege. The company also offers a prepaid Mastercard linked to the chequing account.

What is the difference between the Visa Infinite 1% and the Wealthsimple Visa Infinite +?

The Visa Infinite + offers 2% cash back, included travel insurance, and no conversion fees, but costs $20 per month (waivable). The Visa Infinite 1% has no annual fees, but its cash back drops to 1% and you must choose 3 premium benefits from a list.

Does the Wealthsimple Visa Infinite 1% card have an annual fee?

No. The Visa Infinite 1% card has no annual fees. However, it is currently offered to invited clients only, in beta version.

What is the difference between the Wealthsimple Visa Infinite + and Infinite Privilege?

Both cards offer 2% cash back with no conversion fees. However, the Visa Infinite Privilege adds enhanced travel insurance and high-end benefits, such as airport lounge access.

Does the Wealthsimple credit card offer a welcome bonus?

Yes. With the exclusive welcome offer from Wealthsimple, new Visa Infinite + or Visa Infinite Privilege cardholders earn an extra 3% cash back (5% total) on the first $10,000 in purchases during the 30 days after approval, for up to $500 cash back. The Visa Infinite 1% has no welcome bonus.

Do Wealthsimple cards charge conversion fees?

The Visa Infinite + and Visa Infinite Privilege do not apply any conversion fees. On the Visa Infinite 1%, the absence of conversion fees is one of the benefits you can select among your 3 choices.
