If you're a Blue Rewards member with a dog or a cat, getting a pet insurance quote from BMO Insurance earns you 500 Blue Points, with no purchase required. The offer runs from September 1 to December 31, 2026. It comes with a 5% discount on BMO Health & Dental Insurance.
BMO announced this partnership between Blue Rewards and BMO Insurance on September 18, 2026. Our take is simple: the quote takes about 5 minutes and commits you to nothing, so get one if your province is covered. That said, 500 points are worth about $3.35; the real draw is the contest entry that comes with it.
To put a dollar figure on both offers, we value the Blue Rewards point at 0.67¢, the guaranteed value when you redeem in store.
BMO Insurance's two offers for members
Until December 31, 2026, you can take advantage of two separate offers, as long as you provide your Blue Rewards member number:
BMO Pet Insurance: 500 Blue Points for a quote, once per member, plus an entry into the free pet food for a year contest
BMO Health & Dental Insurance: 5% off your premiums, for as long as the policy stays active and in good standing
BMO Insurance joins a network of more than 400 brands. It's the first time insurance has been part of the program.

Pet insurance: 500 points without buying anything
The official rules leave no room for doubt: you get the 500 Blue Points whether or not you buy a policy. A simple quote, online or by phone, is all it takes.
Here are the steps:
Join Blue Rewards if you haven't already; membership is free.
Describe your pet (age, breed, postal code) and enter your member number.
BMO then awards the points within 90 days. The same quote also enters you in the contest: a $4,000 Global Pet Foods gift card. The draw takes place during the second week of January 2027, among Canadian residents aged 18 and over.
Your quote is based on your pet's age, breed and where you live.
At our valuation, the bonus is worth about $3.35. You won't switch insurers for that amount, but five minutes for 500 points and a shot at the draw is still a fair trade.
Health & dental insurance: a recurring 5% discount
If you're shopping for coverage, the 5% discount is the more valuable of the two offers. Unlike the 500 points, it applies to every premium for as long as your policy stays active and in good standing. You do need to submit your application by December 31, 2026.
BMO is mainly targeting self-employed workers, people between jobs and retirees who don't have group insurance. Its four plans cover prescription drugs at 70% or 80%, dental care and 15 days of emergency travel medical coverage.
Take a premium of $150 a month, as an example:
Annual premium: $1,800
5% discount: $90 a year
Over 3 years: $270, if the policy stays active
Who should take advantage
Depending on your situation, here's what we recommend:
You have a pet and live outside Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador or the Northwest Territories: get a quote before December 31 for the 500 points and the contest entry.
You're self-employed or retired without group insurance: request a health and dental quote, and compare it with another insurer before you sign.
You already have group insurance: the health offer won't do much for you; only the pet quote is worth your time.
To earn Blue Points faster day to day, the BMO Blue Rewards World Elite Mastercard is the one that earns the most. For applications received by October 31, 2026, here's what it gives you:
At participating partners: 10 Blue Points per dollar
Groceries and gas: 2 Blue Points per dollar
Welcome offer: up to 100,000 Blue Points, worth about $670, after $20,000 in purchases in the first year
Annual fee: $150, waived the first year
Prefer a card with no annual fee? The BMO Blue Rewards Mastercard offers 20,000 points, worth about $134, after $1,500 in purchases in 3 months.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have to buy BMO Pet Insurance to get the 500 Blue Points?
No. BMO Insurance's rules state that the points are awarded whether or not you buy a policy. You only need to get a quote between September 1 and December 31, 2026 and enter your Blue Rewards member number.
Is BMO Pet Insurance available in Quebec?
Not yet. BMO offers it in select provinces and says it is coming soon to Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador and the Northwest Territories. If you live in one of those regions, you can't get an online quote for now.
When do the 500 Blue Points show up in your account?
BMO Insurance commits to awarding them within 90 days of the quote. You receive them once per member, even if you request quotes for several pets.
Does the 5% health and dental discount last beyond the first year?
Yes. BMO applies it to your premiums for as long as the policy stays active and in good standing and you remain eligible. Your application must be submitted by December 31, 2026.
Do you need to be a Blue Rewards member already?
You need a valid member number. If you don't have one, membership is free and you can join during the quote process or on the Blue Rewards website.
How does the free pet food for a year contest work?
Each eligible quote gives you one entry, with no purchase required. The single prize is a $4,000 Global Pet Foods gift card, drawn during the second week of January 2027. The winner must answer a mathematical skill-testing question.
How much are 500 Blue Rewards points worth?
About $3.35, at 0.67¢ per point, the guaranteed value when you redeem in store or for an e-gift card. On Blue Rewards Travel, the value depends on the displayed price.
