Blue Rewards and Porter: Link Your VIPorter Account to Earn More Points

What the Porter partnership gives you

Here are the five announced perks, in the order you'll be able to use them:

• Account linking: 500 Blue Points and 500 VIPorter points, once per member
• Porter flights: 1 extra VIPorter point per dollar with a BMO card, 0.5 point without one
• Porter flights paid with Blue Points: 1,000 to 7,500 bonus Blue Points on Blue Rewards Travel
• BMO cardholders: up to 1,500 more Blue Points per eligible flight, until November 30, 2026
• Conversion: 2 Blue Points for 1 VIPorter point, expected in the coming months

Account linking: 500 points on each side

You link your accounts from the Porter page on the Blue Rewards site, using the "Link Program" button once you're signed in. Porter then deposits the 500 VIPorter points within 48 hours of linking.

The 500 Blue Points take one more step: you need to earn at least 1 Blue Point at any partner after linking. They then arrive within 48 hours. Also note that the bonus only applies the first time you link, once per member.

At our valuations, the pair is worth about $10.85:

• 500 VIPorter points: about $7.50
• 500 Blue Points: about $3.35

How many extra VIPorter points per flight

Every Porter flight already earns you 5 to 7 VIPorter points per dollar, excluding taxes and fees, depending on your status. Once your accounts are linked, Porter adds extra VIPorter points on the same purchase:

• 1 point per dollar if you hold a BMO credit or debit card
• 0.5 point per dollar if you don't have a BMO card

The bonus applies to the base fare and eligible ancillary services, such as seat or baggage selection. Porter credits these points within 48 hours after your trip ends.

The "up to 20% faster" in the press release is the best case: a base-level member, at 5 points per dollar, who holds a BMO card. At Ascent or First status, at 7 points per dollar, the same extra point works out to about 14%.

Stacking with a BMO VIPorter card

You get the most out of the partnership by paying for your flight with the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard, which earns 3 VIPorter points per dollar at Porter. Take a $300 base fare. The card gives you VIPorter Venture status automatically, which earns 6 points per dollar:

• Porter points at Venture status: 1,800 points
• Linking bonus with a BMO card: 300 points
• VIPorter World Elite card, 3 points per dollar: 900 points
• Total: 3,000 VIPorter points, about $45 or 15% of the base fare

Here's what the card offers on applications received by October 31, 2026:

• Welcome offer: up to 70,000 VIPorter points and a round-trip companion pass
• Spending required: $18,000 in purchases within one year
• Annual fee: $199, rebated in the first year
• Income required: $80,000 personal or $150,000 household
• Bonus value: about $1,050 in the first year at 1.5¢ per point, not counting the companion pass

The bonus on Porter flights paid with Blue Points

Blue Rewards Travel, the booking platform powered by Expedia, gives you bonus Blue Points when you redeem points for a flight operated by Porter. The bonus depends on the value of the flight:

• Up to $350: 1,000 Blue Points, about $6.70
• $351 to $450: 3,750 Blue Points, about $25
• $451 and up: 7,500 Blue Points, about $50

Blue Rewards launched this bonus on August 17, 2026, with a planned end date of November 30. The September 24 press release now presents it as part of the partnership, with no end date. In addition, until November 30, 2026, the release announces up to 1,500 more Blue Points per eligible flight for eligible BMO cardholders.

The $350 and $450 thresholds

Watch the tiers closely, because that's where the value is. A single dollar can change your bonus:

• From $350 to $351: 2,750 more points, about $18
• From $450 to $451: 3,750 more points, about $25

For example, once the bonus is deducted, a $355 flight costs you less than a $345 flight:

• $345 flight: about $338 after the 1,000-point bonus
• $355 flight: about $330 after the 3,750-point bonus

So when your fare lands just under a threshold, compare another time or date before you book.

Converting Blue Points to VIPorter: 2 for 1

In the coming months, you'll be able to convert Blue Points to VIPorter points at a rate of 2 Blue Points for 1 VIPorter point. Only members who have linked their accounts will have access, and no date has been set yet.

Here's what that ratio gives you at our valuations:

• Cost: 2 Blue Points, or 1.34¢
• Result: 1 VIPorter point, valued at 1.5¢
• Gap: about 12% in favour of converting

In practice, 30,000 Blue Points, worth about $201, would become 15,000 VIPorter points, worth about $225. Converting makes sense if you get at least 1.34¢ per VIPorter point when you redeem. On a low-cost Porter flight, however, paying directly with Blue Points on Blue Rewards Travel also earns you the bonus from the previous section.

Who gets the most from this partnership

The partnership pays off for three types of travellers, each with its own strategy:

• You fly Porter several times a year: link your accounts today and pay for your flights with a BMO VIPorter card to stack all three sources of points.
• You mostly earn Blue Points, on groceries or at Pharmasave: redeem them for Porter flights on Blue Rewards Travel, where the bonus is added.
• You're saving for a specific VIPorter reward flight: wait for the 2:1 conversion, then compare the points price with the cash fare.

If you already earn Blue Points day to day, the BMO Blue Rewards World Elite Mastercard earns 10 points per dollar at the program's partners. On applications received by October 31, 2026, it offers up to 100,000 Blue Points, about $670, after $20,000 in purchases in the first year, with no annual fee that same year. Because it's a BMO card, it also qualifies you for the extra VIPorter point on your Porter flights.
