Buying WestJet points: how it works and the current promotion
Share

A WestJet points promotion runs until October 9, 2026. Its rate shows up in your WestJet Rewards account, since there is no public grid. Outside a promotion, a point sells for 2¢ before taxes and is worth about 1 cent: that threshold is what decides. The WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard earns 2 points per dollar on WestJet travel, groceries and gas, so see all the benefits of the WestJet RBC World Elite to compare the two routes.

How buying WestJet points works

You buy your points straight from your WestJet Rewards account, starting at 2,500 points, and the transaction goes through Points.com. The discount or bonus appears at that step: WestJet publishes no common grid, and the rate differs from one member to the next.

A worked example to place your own offer: 150,000 WestJet points cost $3,000 CAD at the regular price, before taxes. A 40% discount brings that down to $1,800, or 1.2¢ per point; a 25% discount leaves it at $2,250, or 1.5¢. Apply the rate shown in your account to that regular price to find yours.

Some offers go as far as a 60% points bonus, and that is where the math turns around: 150,000 points bought for $3,000 come to 240,000 once the bonus lands, or 1.25¢ per point. A bonus changes how many points you receive, not the price you pay. Even at that level, you stay above the 1-cent value.

You can purchase up to 500,000 WestJet points per calendar year.

All purchases are non-refundable. Taxes are added at checkout, based on your province or billing address, so the price shown during a promotion is a pre-tax price.

Is This Offer Worth It?

The WestJet Rewards program is easy to calculate: according to Milesopedia’s semi-annual estimate, 1 WestJet point is worth 1 cent.

The math takes one line: divide the total price, taxes included, by the number of points you receive. Below 1 cent per point you come out ahead; above it, you are paying more than your points are worth. Outside a promotion, WestJet sells them at 2¢, twice their value, and a 40% discount brings them down to 1.2¢. Even on promotion, the move often loses money: it mainly helps when you are a few thousand points short of a specific booking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a WestJet points promotion right now?

Yes. A promotion runs until October 9, 2026. Its rate differs from one member to the next and WestJet does not publish it: you will find yours in your WestJet Rewards account, on the buy points page. This kind of offer comes back several times a year.

How do you find out your WestJet points discount?

Sign in to your WestJet Rewards account and open the buy points page: the offer made to you appears there, with the price you would pay. It differs from one member to the next. If no offer shows up, none was extended to you.

How much does a WestJet point cost with the promotion?

Outside a promotion, 150,000 WestJet points cost $3,000 CAD, or 2¢ per point before taxes. During a promotion, the discount or bonus applies to that regular price, and the amount you owe appears in your account before you confirm. Taxes are added on top, based on your province or billing address.

Is it worth buying WestJet points?

In most cases, no. A WestJet point is worth about 1 cent, and even during a promotion the cost often lands above that once taxes are in. It still helps when you are a few thousand points short of a specific booking and your own math works out.

What is the best alternative to buying WestJet points?

For people who fly WestJet often, a WestJet RBC credit card (such as the WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard) is usually the better route, thanks to the welcome bonus and the benefits that cut the cost of your flights.
