From October 2 to 19, 2026, Atmos Rewards is offering up to a 100% bonus on purchased points, and up to 120% for some accounts. At the 100% tier, which starts at 30,000 purchased points, a point costs 1.88 US cents, including federal excise tax. Buying Atmos Rewards points makes sense only when you already have a specific booking in mind. Outside a promotion, a point costs 3.76 US cents, and about 4.33 US cents for a Quebec resident once GST and QST are added.
The tiers appear in the purchase store after signing in, and they vary from one member to another. The most common grid gives 80% from 5,000 points, 90% from 15,000 points and 100% from 30,000 points; some accounts see up to 120% at the top tier. Purchases must be completed between 6:00 a.m. on October 2, 2026, and 11:59 p.m. on October 19, 2026, Pacific Time.
The actual cost for a Canadian resident
The transaction is in U.S. dollars. Canadian residents also pay GST or HST, and Quebec residents pay QST.
At the 100% tier, a Quebec resident therefore pays about US$1,298 for 60,000 points: US$1,050, plus 7.5% excise tax, then GST and QST (14.975%). That works out to around 2.16 US cents per point, rather than 1.88 cents. Outside a promotion, those same taxes bring 1,000 points to US$43.26 for a Quebec resident, or 4.33 US cents per point. The exact total appears at checkout before you confirm.

The cash back promotional offer (“Cashback Offer”) is valid for new and existing users of the Card. The 2% earn rate, which may be subject to change, applies to purchases, excluding cash-like transactions, refunds, any applicable fees and adjustments (“Qualified Spend”). Cash back credits are earned on Qualified Spend only. You may redeem your cash back as soon as the Qualified Spend transaction is settled or up to 10 years after the Qualified Spend transaction is settled. Cash back can be redeemed directly in the app. Cash back can only be deposited into your Wealthsimple chequing, TFSA, RRSP, or non-registered accounts. There is no minimum amount needed to redeem. Atmos Rewards: tiers in the October 2026 offer
The base price is US$35 per 1,000 points and applies at all times, with or without a promotion. A 7.5% U.S. federal excise tax is added. Here is what each tier of the most common grid in the current offer delivers:
This excise tax often comes as a surprise, so let us clarify it now. It is a 7.5% U.S. federal tax on the transaction, regardless of where you live. Points.com collects it on behalf of Alaska Airlines, which is responsible for remitting it to the U.S. government.
It is therefore neither avoidable nor negotiable, and it applies before Canadian taxes. That is why the advertised price of US$35 per 1,000 points is never what you actually pay.

This grid is not the same for everyone: some accounts see up to 120% at the top tier, which brings a point down to around 1.71 US cents, including excise tax. Check the offer shown in your own account before you pay.
Outside a promotion, a point costs 3.76 US cents, regardless of quantity. The threshold to aim for this time is 30,000 points, where the 100% bonus begins: 30,000 points then become 60,000 for US$1,050, or 1.88 US cents per point, including excise tax.
Purchase limits and increments
You can buy or receive as a gift a maximum of 150,000 points per calendar year. Atmos Silver, Atmos Gold, Atmos Platinum and Atmos Titanium members have no annual limit.
Per transaction, purchases are made in increments of 1,000 points up to 60,000 points, then in increments of 5,000 points up to a maximum of 100,000 points.
Purchased points are non-refundable and do not count as status points, toward milestone rewards or toward an Atmos tier.
This lets you save 2.5% in fees on this points purchase. On a US$1,298 bill, avoiding foreign transaction fees is worth about US$32, and the Wealthsimple card's 2% cash back adds nearly US$26.

Only if you already have a specific booking in mind. The right test is to compare the total cost of the purchase with the cash price of the specific ticket you are targeting. Even at the 100% tier of the current offer, a point costs 1.88 US cents before Canadian taxes, and it costs 3.76 US cents outside a promotion: buying only pays off if that ticket costs substantially more in cash.
In other words, buying “just in case” makes no sense at this price. The calculation only changes when you target a high-value redemption, which is where the program remains worthwhile. I return to the best redemptions below.
That transfer comes down to three numbers: 60,000 Marriott Bonvoy points become 25,000 Atmos points, bonus of 5,000 included, an effective ratio of 2.4 to 1. At our valuation of 1 cent per Bonvoy point, those 25,000 points cost C$600, or 2.4 cents per Atmos point. At about C$1.41 per US$1, buying directly costs closer to 5 Canadian cents per point outside a promotion before taxes, and about 6.1 Canadian cents for a Quebec resident, including excise tax, GST and QST. If you already hold Bonvoy points, transferring costs less than half as much.
The strengths of Atmos Rewards
Alaska Airlines joined the oneworld alliance on March 31, 2021, opening access to a long list of partners. Atmos Rewards retains that access and adds the Hawaiian Airlines network.
The award chart changed in December 2022: the number of points required for a ticket now depends on distance and departure region, and varies with demand.
It was then revised in March 2024 around different geographic regions, and redemption limits between certain regions were removed. Good news for travellers targeting long itineraries.
A free stopover on a one-way flight
Atmos Rewards still allows members to add a free stopover on a one-way flight for most award tickets.
For example, you can travel from Boston to Singapore while stopping for several days in Tokyo.
Many partners
Over the years, Alaska Airlines has diversified its partners across different airline alliances: Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Qantas and Icelandair.
Here are the Atmos Rewards redemptions I watch closely. They are the ones that can justify buying points, because they deliver far more value than the purchase price, even at the 100% tier of the current offer.
Remember that the free stopover on a one-way flight also applies to these tickets:
Japan Airlines First Class from North America to Asia for 70,000 points
Cathay Pacific Business Class from North America to Australia for 60,000 points
Fiji Airways Business Class from North America to Australia or New Zealand for 55,000 points
Icelandair Business Class from North America to Europe for 55,000 points
In practical terms, at the 100% tier, 35,000 purchased points yield 70,000 points for US$1,225, or about US$1,317 including excise tax. Enough for a one-way First Class flight to Asia with Cathay Pacific or Japan Airlines, including a free stopover.
Conclusion
Buying Atmos Rewards points makes sense in only two situations: a very specific travel goal, or a balance that needs a few thousand extra points to unlock a ticket you have already found.
Outside those two cases, even at the 100% tier of the current offer, there is no guarantee the points you buy will be worth more than what they cost you. From Canada, the only other routes remain transferring Marriott Bonvoy points and the VIPorter partnership.
Yes. Atmos Rewards accepts transactions between 6:00 a.m. on October 2, 2026, and 11:59 p.m. on October 19, 2026, Pacific Time, with a bonus of up to 100% for most accounts and up to 120% for some. The exact offer appears in the purchase store after you sign in, and it can vary from one member to another.
What is the maximum bonus?
Up to 120% for some accounts. The most common grid in the October 2026 offer gives 80% from 5,000 purchased points, 90% from 15,000 points and 100% from 30,000 points. Check your own grid in your account before you pay.
How much does a point cost with the bonus?
1.88 US cents at the 100% tier, 1.98 US cents at the 90% tier and 2.09 US cents at the 80% tier, including the 7.5% U.S. federal excise tax. At the 120% tier offered to some accounts, a point costs around 1.71 US cents. A Quebec resident pays about 2.16 US cents at the 100% tier once GST and QST are added, and a resident of another province pays an amount in between, depending on the GST or HST that applies. Outside a promotion, a point costs 3.76 US cents, and 4.33 US cents for a Quebec resident once GST and QST are added.
Why is there a 7.5% U.S. tax?
It is a U.S. federal excise tax on the purchase of points. Points.com collects it on behalf of Alaska Airlines, which then remits it to the U.S. government. You pay it even if you live in Canada, and it is added to the advertised price before GST, HST or QST.
Is there a purchase limit?
Yes, 150,000 points per calendar year, purchases and gifts received combined. Atmos Silver, Atmos Gold, Atmos Platinum and Atmos Titanium members have no annual limit. Per transaction, the maximum is 100,000 points before the bonus.
Do purchased points count toward status?
No. They are redeemable points only: they count neither toward milestone rewards nor toward Atmos Silver, Atmos Gold, Atmos Platinum or Atmos Titanium.
Is the purchase refundable?
No, purchased points are non-refundable. Confirm award availability for your ticket in the booking engine before you pay, never after.
Can you earn these points in Canada?
No Canadian credit card has earned Atmos Rewards points since November 27, 2022. The only routes from Canada are Marriott Bonvoy point transfers and Porter's VIPorter partnership, in addition to buying points directly.

The Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card is the best credit card in Canada for free hotel nights.
New Cardmembers can earn up to 70,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points with the current offer:
Earn up to 60,000 points after you spend $3,000 on your Card in your first 3 months of Cardmembership.
Plus, earn 10,000 points after you spend $500 on your Card in your 13th month of Cardmembership.
The annual fee is $120, and there is no annual fee on Additional Cards, so you can add a partner or a family member at no extra cost.
Every year after your first Card anniversary, you receive an Annual Free Night Award good for a redemption of up to 35,000 points at eligible hotels and resorts worldwide. At a valuation of 0.9 cents per Marriott Bonvoy point, that certificate is worth roughly $315, which on its own more than covers the $120 annual fee. That is the main reason to keep this Card year after year instead of cancelling it.
To get the most out of the certificate, aim it at a night that would otherwise price close to the 35,000 point ceiling.
The Card also gives you 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year and automatic Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Those credits count toward the next Elite tier, so you begin every year 15 nights ahead of where you would otherwise start.
You move up to Gold Elite status automatically when you reach $30,000 in purchases on the Card in a year, or when you combine 10 qualifying paid nights within one calendar year with the 15 Elite Night Credits from your Card.
Marriott Bonvoy points are generally valued at 0.9 cents each. On that basis, the 70,000 point welcome offer is worth about $630, and an Annual Free Night Award used at its full 35,000 point ceiling is worth about $315.
Marriott Bonvoy points pull their weight on free nights rather than on gift cards or merchandise, which is why this Card should be judged on the hotel stays it produces.
You earn 5 points per dollar on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels and 2 points per dollar on all other purchases. Points can be redeemed for free nights with no blackout dates at more than 7,000 hotels around the world.
The Card carries a solid package of coverages: $500,000 travel accident insurance, flight delay, baggage delay, lost or stolen baggage and hotel or motel burglary at $500 each, car rental theft and damage up to $85,000 for rentals of up to 48 days, Purchase Protection for 90 days and a one year Extended Warranty.
Two things to plan around: the 2.5% foreign transaction fee on purchases made in a foreign currency, and the 21.99% purchase interest rate, which makes this a Card to pay in full every month. Like all American Express Canada Cards, no minimum income is published for this Card, and you can see whether you would be approved before you apply, with no impact on your credit score.
