The Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite+* Card is recognized, year after year, as one of the best cash back credit cards in Canada. Milesopedia even named it the best cash back credit card of 2026.
Right now, thanks to this promotional offer, the Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite+ Card has no annual fee in the first year, including on additional cards. And you can get 15% cash back on all your purchases for the first three months (on up to $2,000 in total purchases).
It also includes a handy new perk for travellers: enjoy 10 GB of free GigSky global mobile data for 15 days, plus access to Travel Essentials to use essential apps like messaging, maps and email while you travel. Cardholders also continue to receive 1 GB of free GigSky mobile data per year, plus a 20% discount on future GigSky purchases.

- 4% cash back on grocery store purchases and recurring payments

Redeem Your Cash Back Anytime with Momentum Cards
As of February 1, 2026, you can redeem your cash back rewards as soon as your balance reaches $25, via the Scotia app or Scotia online. This enhancement applies to all cards in the Momentum lineup:
Previously, cardholders had to wait until November each year to automatically receive their cash back with no option to redeem at will.
Cash Back Earning
With the Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite +* Card, you can earn 1% cash back on all your purchases. However, an accelerated cash back rate is offered on certain spending categories:
4% On Groceries and Recurring Payments
With the Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite +* Card, you get 4% cash back on recurring bill payments (auto, home, cell phone, cable, internet insurance, etc.) as well as service subscriptions (Netflix, Hello Fresh, Chefs Plate, truLOCAL, etc.).
But the most interesting part is that you can get 4% cash back on grocery purchases with the Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite +* Card!
In addition to your regular grocery purchases, you can also buy gift cards for many other types of businesses with your Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite +* Card and also get 4% cash back.
For example:
- Amazon.ca
- Gap / Old Navy / Banana Republic
- La vie en rose
- Netflix
- App Store/ Google Store
- SAQ
There are plenty of gift cards in grocery stores! Why not take advantage of them with a card that offers great cash back like the Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite +* Card?
2% On Gas and Daily Transit
With the Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite +* Card, you get 2% cash back on gas and public transit, as well as services like Uber.
Annual Purchase Limit for the 2% and 4% Categories
The annual purchase limit for these two reward rates is $25,000 (which is a little over $2,000 charged to the card each month).
Once this limit is reached, all purchases will earn 1% like your other purchases.
Potential cash back in year one
The $25,000 cap applies only to the 2% and 4% categories. Other purchases therefore keep earning 1% with no limit. Here is a profile calibrated to fill that cap exactly, with 68% of spending in the 4% categories:
| Category | Rate | Annual spending | Cash back |
|---|---|---|---|
| Groceries | 4% | $14,400 | $576 |
| Recurring payments and subscriptions | 4% | $6,000 | $240 |
| Gas, transit, rideshare and food delivery | 2% | $4,600 | $92 |
| Subtotal under the cap | – | $25,000 | $908 |
| All other purchases (outside the cap) | 1% | $5,000 | $50 |
| Total | – | $30,000 | $958 |
On top of that ongoing cash back come the welcome promotion and the rebated annual fee. Here is the full first-year picture:
| Value source | Detail | Value |
|---|---|---|
| Cash back earned at regular rates | $30,000 in purchases | $958 |
| Uplift from the 15% promotion | First 3 months, $2,000 max | $236 |
| Annual fee rebated | 1st year, supplementary cards included | $120 |
| Total in the first year | – | $1,314 |

each in the event of medical emergencies resulting from an unpredictable illness or accident occurring during a trip outside their province or territory of residence in Canada. The date of departure is counted as the first day.
Coverage is automatically provided to individuals under 65 years of age for a period of up to 15 consecutive days.
If you are under 65 and traveling for more than 15 days, you can purchase a travel insurance extension from Scotia Assistance.
Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption Insurance
The Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite +* Card helps protect your travel investment with trip interruption insurance offered at no additional cost.
You, your spouse, one travelling companion and your eligible dependent children travelling with you, are automatically insured. Each insured person receives trip interruption insurance of up to $2,000 (maximum $10,000 per trip) provided you charge at least 75% of your trip cost to your Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite +* Card.
Should you need to cancel your trip, you, your spouse, and your dependent children are eligible for up to $1,500 per person (up to $10,000 per trip) for travel expenses when you charge at least 75% of the travel expenses to your Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite +* Card.
If you need travel cancellation insurance or additional travel interruption insurance since the value of your trip exceeds the specified amounts, call 1-888-677-7444. Once your insurance application is approved, you will receive an insurance policy outlining benefits, exclusions and restrictions.

The insurance applies for a period of 90 days from the date of purchase and is in addition to any other insurance.
When you charge the full cost of most items to your Scotia Momentum® Visa Infinite +* Card, extended warranty coverage doubles the original manufacturer’s warranty for up to one year. Items covered by a manufacturer’s warranty repair services of five years or more must be registered within the first year of purchase. Coverage is limited to the lesser of the repair cost, replacement cost, or original purchase price.
Under Purchase Security & Extended Warranty Protection, the guarantee limit is set at $60,000 for life.
Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite – Our review
We have followed the Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite card for years, and Milesopedia named it best cash back credit card in 2026.
The 4% on groceries remains the best rate on the Canadian market for that category. The genuinely underrated perk, however, is the 4% on recurring payments: insurance, mobile, internet, subscriptions. Those are fixed costs that most cards pay 1% on.
Since February 2026, one irritant has gone: cash back can be redeemed at any time from $25, instead of waiting for November. That reads as a minor change, but it moves the card closer to true cash back than to an annual credit.
The real limit is still the $25,000 annual cap on the accelerated categories. Beyond it everything drops to 1%, which caps annual cash back at around $950.
Who is this card for?
- Families: 4% on groceries is the highest rate on the Canadian market for that category.
- Anyone with heavy fixed costs: insurance, mobile, internet and subscriptions all count at 4%.
- Anyone who dislikes points programs: the reward is cash, with no conversion and no expiry to track.
- Gift card buyers: bought at a grocery store, they also earn 4%, which extends the rate to other merchants.
- High spenders: beyond $25,000 a year in the accelerated categories, everything drops to 1%.
- Frequent travellers: no airport lounge access, and foreign transaction fees stay at 2.5%.
- Anyone chasing maximum value: cash back can never exceed its face value, unlike travel points used well.
- Travellers aged 65 and over: the automatic medical coverage only applies under 65, for 15 days.
How we assess this offer
Cash back has the advantage of needing no valuation: a dollar is a dollar. Our calculations therefore come down to two rules. First, we count only the cash back actually paid out during the first year. Second, we always weigh that amount against the real $120 annual fee.
The table above assumes a specific profile: $30,000 in annual spending, of which $25,000 is calibrated to fill the accelerated-category cap exactly. If your breakdown differs, adjust the rows to your own amounts before comparing.
The offer terms come from Scotiabank. Our analysis remains independent of the commercial agreements we hold with card issuers.

Conclusion
