If you fly United Airlines regularly, you may have noticed the « Premier Access » label at check-in counters and boarding gates. United Premier Access is a bundle of airport perks designed to speed up your journey from curb to cabin — and from carousel to car.
For travellers flying with United or United Express, these benefits can potentially save real time on busy travel days, so let’s take a look at what the service includes, who has access, how to add it to your next trip, and whether it’s worthwhile.
In short: as of September 2026, United Premier Access gives you priority check-in, security screening (at participating airports) and boarding on United and United Express flights. According to United, it can be purchased from $24 USD per segment. It is free with MileagePlus Premier status, a premium cabin or Star Alliance Gold status (Aeroplan 50K and up).
What Is United Premier Access?
United Premier Access is a travel service package offered by United Airlines. It groups four airport-related perks into a single benefit: dedicated check-in lanes, priority security screening, priority boarding, and priority baggage handling.
You can receive these perks either complimentary (through United Premier elite status, premium cabin tickets, or certain credit cards) or by purchasing Premier Access separately when you book a flight. Just keep in mind that Premier Access is available exclusively with United and United Express flights.
In Canada, the United® MileagePlus® Neo World Elite® Mastercard also gives you a free checked bag and priority boarding (with Group 2), letting you enjoy some of what’s on offer with Premier Access just for being a cardholder.

The United® MileagePlus® Neo World Elite® Mastercard® is the only credit card in Canada that allows you to earn United MileagePlus miles while enjoying exclusive airline benefits directly on your credit card.
For a limited time, you can earn up to 20,000 MileagePlus miles as a welcome bonus:
5,000 MileagePlus miles on card activation and first transaction
15,000 additional MileagePlus miles when you spend $3,000 net of refunds within 3 months of application
And 5,000 miles per year when the account remains open and active with eligible spend within 365 days This is an approximate $90 value based on our valuation of MileagePlus miles.
With the United® MileagePlus® Neo World Elite® Mastercard®, you earn MileagePlus miles on every purchase:
1.25 miles per dollar on United and Star Alliance flights
1 mile per dollar on dining and groceries
0.75 miles per dollar everywhere else
You can also earn bonus miles at over 10,000 Neo merchant partners across the country.
When travelling with United, you benefit from a first checked bag free on all your flights, as well as Group 2 priority boarding for you and your family.
With the United® MileagePlus® Neo World Elite® Mastercard, you automatically receive at least a 10% discount on award flights, and even 15% if you hold Premier MileagePlus status.
In addition, you gain access to exclusive availability on Saver Award fares, including premium-cabin seats such as Polaris® business class, which are not always available to non-cardholders.
As a World Elite Mastercard, you also enjoy paid access to over 1,400 airport lounges worldwide through the Mastercard Travel Pass program provided by DragonPass, as well as comprehensive travel insurance coverage (insurance coverage not available in Quebec).
Finally, the card reimburses up to $120 USD every 5 years to cover your Nexus application or renewal fees — the expedited border crossing program between Canada and the U.S.
A secured version of the card is also available with a security deposit. It offers the exact same mile earn rates and travel benefits, while allowing you to build or rebuild your credit history in Canada.

United Premier Access Benefits
With Premier Access, you can enjoy four distinct perks, each one targeting a different friction point at the airport.
Dedicated Check-In Lanes
Premier Access holders can skip the main check-in queue and use a dedicated lane. This is especially useful at busy US hubs like Newark (EWR), Chicago O’Hare (ORD), and Houston (IAH). These lanes should be available at every airport where United operates.
Priority Security Screening
At select airports, Premier Access grants entry to expedited security lanes. However, this perk is not universal — it is only offered at participating locations. If your departure airport does not have a designated lane, this benefit will not apply.
United Airlines includes a list of all airports that currently offer this perk on its Premier Access website under one of the FAQs tabs. There are approximately 50 airports that offer the exclusive security lines, mostly in the US but also in a few other countries around the world.
Priority Boarding
With Premier Access, you get to board in one of the earliest groups. This means overhead bin space is still available when you reach your seat — a real advantage on full flights. Priority boarding applies at every United departure gate.
Priority Baggage Handling
The final perk of Premier Access is that your checked bags receive a special tag at check-in, so they are among the first to appear on the carousel after landing.
This perk is only included for complimentary Premier Access holders (elite members, premium cabin passengers, etc.) and is not included if you purchase Premier Access separately.

Who Qualifies for Premier Access?
Several categories of travellers receive complimentary Premier Access on United and United Express flights. You do not need to purchase the service if you fall into any of the groups below.
MileagePlus Premier Silver or above: Any United elite member (Silver, Gold, Platinum, or 1K) receives complimentary Premier Access on every United flight
Premium cabin passengers: Travellers booked in United Polaris business class, United First, or United Business receive Premier Access automatically
Star Alliance Gold members: If you hold Star Alliance Gold status through another airline, such as Aeroplan 50K or higher, you qualify for Premier Access on United flights
Select United credit card holders: Eligible US-based United MileagePlus credit cards offer Premier Access as a cardholder benefit
Purchasing Premier Access
If you don’t qualify for complimentary United Premier Access but would still like to enjoy the benefits, you can purchase the service when booking or managing a United reservation. The price starts at $24 USD per segment and varies by route and fare class.
When purchased, Premier Access includes dedicated check-in, priority security (at select airports), and priority boarding. However, priority baggage handling is not included in the purchased package — that perk is reserved for those who receive complimentary Premier Access through the previously mentioned avenues.
Is Premier Access Worth It?
The value of Premier Access depends on how you travel, what airport perks you may already have (premium credit cards, NEXUS, TSA Pre-Check, etc.), and whether the priority access is helpful for your trip.
Here are some situations where the service adds clear value — and others where it does not.
When Premier Access Helps
Skip long lines: With Premier Access, you can access the priority line at check-in and enjoy priority security line access at around 50 airports. This can potentially save you a bunch of time during peak travel times.
Tight connections through busy hubs: If you’re connecting at a busy airport like Chicago, Newark, or Houston and have to go through US security and customs, having Premier Access can potentially make this experience smoother.
Checked baggage on arrival: Travellers with complimentary Premier Status get priority baggage handling, which can theoretically save time at the baggage carousel after a long flight.
When Buying Premier Access Adds Little
You already hold elite status: If you have United Premier Silver status or above, you already have these perks, so no need to purchase anything
You have TSA PreCheck or NEXUS: Expedited screening through TSA PreCheck or NEXUS often moves faster than Premier Access security lanes
You check in online and travel with carry-on only: Two of the four benefits (check-in lanes and baggage handling) become irrelevant if you skip the counter and check no bags
You rarely fly United: The benefits only apply on United-operated flights. If United is not your primary carrier, the value is limited
A Canadian Perspective
For Canadian travellers, the most practical way to access United Premier Access is through Star Alliance Gold status earned via Aeroplan. If you already hold Aeroplan 50K or higher, you receive these perks automatically on United flights at no additional cost.

Bottom Line
United Premier Access is a straightforward airport perks package: faster check-in, expedited security at select airports, early boarding, and priority baggage handling.
For eligible travellers, these benefits come at no extra cost, and for everyone else, three of four perks (everything but priority baggage handling) are available for purchase.
If you’re flying United from or through a busy airport that offers Premier Access, and you value time savings at the airport, this feature may be worth considering. However, if you already have NEXUS, TSA PreCheck, or rarely check bags, purchasing the package won’t change your airport experience.

United Premier Access — Frequently Asked Questions
What does Premier Access mean on United Airlines?
United Premier Access is a bundle of airport perks on United Airlines flights. It includes dedicated check-in lanes, priority security screening at select airports, priority boarding, and priority baggage handling (though this last perk is only available for travellers who receive complimentary Premier Access).
How do I get United Premier Access for free?
You receive complimentary Premier Access if you hold MileagePlus Premier Silver status or above, travel in a United premium cabin (Polaris, First, or Business), hold Star Alliance Gold status, or carry an eligible United MileagePlus credit card.
Can I buy United Premier Access?
Yes, you can purchase Premier Access when booking or managing a United reservation, with prices starting at $24 USD. However, keep in mind that the purchased version does not include priority baggage handling, it cannot be added to Basic Economy tickets, and the priority security lines are only available at select airports.
Does Premier Access include lounge access?
No. Premier Access covers check-in, security, boarding, and baggage handling. Lounge access is a separate benefit tied to United Club membership, certain credit cards, or Star Alliance Gold status on international itineraries.
Can Canadians get Premier Access through Aeroplan?
Yes. Aeroplan 50K members and above hold automatic Star Alliance Gold status, which grants complimentary Premier Access on United-operated flights.
Is Premier Access available on Basic Economy tickets?
No. You cannot purchase Premier Access on a Basic Economy fare. You need at least a standard Economy ticket or higher to add it.
What does Premier Access mean on a United boarding pass?
The Premier Access mention on your boarding pass means you get the package benefits on that flight: a dedicated check-in lane, priority security at participating airports and boarding in one of the first groups. If you received it for free (elite status, a premium cabin or Star Alliance Gold), your checked bags also get the priority tag.

Point accumulation on grocery and restaurant spending depends on the total gross monthly amount charged to the credit card account, across all categories. Earn 5 points per dollar spent on eligible grocery and restaurant purchases. The 5 points per dollar accumulation is valid for the first $2,500 of gross monthly purchases charged to the account. Beyond this amount, eligible grocery and restaurant spending will earn 2 points per dollar. The calculation of the gross monthly purchase amount is based on monthly billing. A grocery purchase means a purchase made at a merchant whose primary business is selling food, such as a grocery store, delicatessen, supermarket, fruit store, or specialty food store. Meal kit subscriptions and meal delivery services are eligible. Therefore, this definition excludes, among others, retail stores and big-box stores whose primary business is selling non-food items. Some merchants may sell products or services identical or similar to those of eligible merchants, or are separate merchants located on the same premises as eligible merchants, but are classified by Mastercard in different categories. Purchases made from other merchants only earn base reward points. A restaurant purchase means a purchase made at a restaurant, including quick-service restaurants, bars, discotheques, nightclubs, and taverns. To view the full list of Mastercard codes associated with eligible merchants, download the À la carte Rewards Plan® terms and conditions document.
These protections apply if the purchases or rental are paid for in part with the card before departure, except, if applicable, for out-of-province medical-hospital insurance for which it is not necessary to charge the purchase of an à la carte trip and for baggage delay protection where the full cost of transport must have been charged to the card. All these protections apply to the primary cardholder, their spouse and/or their dependent children when they (spouse and dependent children) travel with the cardholder. Extended warranties apply to most new items purchased with the card, in Canada or abroad, provided the manufacturer’s warranty exists and is valid in Canada. Certain conditions, limitations and restrictions apply. For more information and details regarding your insurance coverage, please consult the insurance certificate linked to your card.
Subject to credit approval by National Bank.
Certain conditions apply. Visit mastercard.ca for more information. See all credit card terms and conditions.
To earn 2 points per dollar spent, you must pay for your gas or electric charging purchases at a gas station or certain big-box stores. Some merchants may sell products or services identical or similar to those of eligible merchants, or are separate merchants located on the same premises as eligible merchants, but are classified by Mastercard in different categories. Purchases made from other merchants only earn base reward points. To view the full list of Mastercard codes associated with eligible merchants, download the À la carte Rewards Plan® terms and conditions document.
Recurring bill payments are defined as payments made monthly or regularly that are automatically charged by the merchant to your National Bank World Elite Mastercard. Not all merchants offer recurring payments, and not all recurring payments are considered recurring bill payments. Therefore, some payments may not qualify for accelerated reward points.
To earn 2 points per dollar spent, you must pay for your eligible purchases through the À la carte TravelTM agency section of our À la carte RewardsTM site.
For example, if you spend $400 monthly on groceries, $200 on gas, $100 on recurring bills and $150 on other purchases, the $850 spent will generate 2,750 points, broken down as follows: 2,000 points for grocery spending (since the total gross monthly amount is $850, which is less than $2,500), 400 points for gas spending, 200 points for recurring bills and 150 points for other purchases.
Insurance up to $1,000 in case of breakage, loss or theft of mobile devices for a maximum period of 2 years following the date of purchase. Subject to purchasing the device with the National Bank World Elite Mastercard or a phone service subscription paid by recurring payments from your National Bank Platinum Mastercard starting September 1, 2022. For all conditions, please consult the insurance certificate linked to your card.
