Momentum's 4% Rent Cashback Ends October 22. Keep Earning Rewards on Rent with Casa.

Starting October 22, 2026, rent payments made with a Scotiabank Momentum Visa Infinite+ Card will earn just 1% cash back instead of 4%. But for renters looking to continue earning meaningful rewards on their biggest monthly expense, Casa offers a compelling alternative. Pay rent through Casa with the ScotiaGold Passport Visa Card with no transaction fees, plus earn 1 Scene+ point per dollar of rent when you spend at least $350 on everyday purchases with the card each month.
For someone paying $2,500 a month in rent, the value adds up quickly. That's 30,000 Scene+ points annually, worth $300, plus another $525 in savings from avoiding Casa's standard 1.75% transaction fee charged on payments made with other Canadian credit cards. Combined, that's $825 in annual value. And because Casa handles the payment directly, there's no need for your landlord to accept credit cards or change how they receive rent.
Until now, rent payments have qualified as recurring bill payments on the Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite+ Card, earning cardholders 4% cash back. Starting October 22, 2026, that changes. Under Scotiabank's updated cash back program terms, rent and tax payments will no longer qualify for the 4% recurring bill category and will instead earn the card's base rate of 1%.
The good news is that the rest of the card's rewards program remains unchanged. Cardholders will continue earning 4% cash back on groceries and eligible recurring bills, including phone, insurance and subscription payments, on up to $25,000 in annual purchases. The Momentum Visa Infinite+ remains a strong everyday rewards card, but when it comes to paying rent, the value proposition is changing.
Paying rent by credit card typically comes with transaction fees that can offset the rewards you earn. Casa changes that equation when paired with the ScotiaGold Passport Visa Card. Renters pay no transaction fees and can earn 1 Scene+ point per dollar of rent when they spend at least $350 on everyday purchases with the card each month.
For someone paying $2,500 a month in rent, avoiding Casa's standard 1.75% credit card transaction fee means $525 in annual savings, before counting the Scene+ points you earn. Casa is not yet available in Quebec, but our comparison covers alternative rent payment platforms available to Quebec renters.
Casa makes it easy to pay your rent or condo fees by credit or debit card, even if your landlord doesn't accept card payments. Simply enter your address, add your card and choose your payment date. According to Casa, your landlord doesn't need to sign up, change how they collect rent or do anything differently: Casa handles the payment, and your landlord receives the funds as usual. The platform is currently available across Canada, excluding Quebec, and is offered in English only.

Transaction fees depend on the card you use:
Casa also works directly with leading property managers, including FirstService Residential, DEL Property Management, Realstar and Westdale Properties, among others. According to Scotiabank's March 2, 2026 news release, Casa's property management network covers more than 500,000 homes.
The ScotiaGold Passport Visa Card is issued by Scotiabank, and applications are made directly through the bank. It's the only credit card that lets you pay rent through Casa with no transaction fees. Plus, when you spend at least $350 on everyday purchases with the card each month, you'll earn 1 Scene+ point for every dollar of rent paid, turning your biggest monthly expense into an opportunity to earn rewards.
The card also includes emergency medical travel insurance up to $1 million, for travellers under 65 and for up to 25 consecutive days. On top of that, you get collision coverage for rental cars (up to 48 days), baggage insurance and 90 days of purchase protection.
Scene+ points can be redeemed with participating partners, including for groceries and gas. At a value of 1¢ per point, 5,000 points are worth $50 and 10,000 points are worth $100.
Here is what the ScotiaGold Passport Visa Card earns you on Casa for $2,500 a month in rent, or $30,000 a year:
How to read these numbers: transaction-fee savings compare the ScotiaGold Passport Visa Card's 0% fee on Casa with the 1.75% Casa charges with other Canadian credit cards. The points value assumes 1 Scene+ point per dollar of rent, at 1¢ per point, and at least $350 in other purchases on the card each month. The $110 annual fee, waived in the first year, is not deducted: from year two, you keep $715 once that fee is paid.
| Monthly rent | Scene+ points per year | Points value | Transaction fees saved per year | Total annual value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $1,500 | 18,000 | $180 | $315 | $495 |
| $2,000 | 24,000 | $240 | $420 | $660 |
| $2,500 | 30,000 | $300 | $525 | $825 |
The Momentum Visa Infinite+ still makes sense for groceries and other eligible recurring bills, where it continues to earn 4%. Starting October 22, however, rent only earns 1% on it. For a tenant outside Quebec, Casa paired with the ScotiaGold Passport Visa Card gives you no transaction fees and 1 Scene+ point per dollar of rent, as long as you put $350 in everyday purchases on the card each month.
