Flying WestJet means comparing the whole journey: airport, operating carrier, fare, baggage, and cabin. The price on the first booking screen does not always show which services are included.
This guide helps you plan the flight and choose how to pay. Earning, redemption, and status rules remain in our WestJet Rewards guide.
Airports and itinerary: check every segment
In Montreal, WestJet flights use Montréal-Trudeau, airport code YUL, in Dorval. This is different from MET – Montréal Metropolitan Airport, code YHU, in Saint-Hubert on the South Shore. WestJet does not offer Saint-Hubert flights in the network checked for this guide. Its official Montreal departure search identifies YUL; check your own dates and destination next.
Read the airport code for every outbound and return flight. Allow for ground transportation costs and enough time for security, baggage, and connections. Airports serving the same city are not interchangeable.
Also check the “operated by” line. A ticket sold by WestJet may include WestJet Encore or a partner airline, with a different cabin and services. With separate tickets, confirm what happens after a delay and whether you must collect your bags.
UltraBasic, Econo, or a Flex fare?
The official fare chart distinguishes UltraBasic, Econo, EconoFlex, Premium, PremiumFlex, Business, and BusinessFlex. Compare options for the same itinerary and all travellers.
Before paying, check:
the baggage actually included;
seat selection and related charges;
change and cancellation rules;
each flight’s cabin and services;
the total with the extras you need.
UltraBasic has significant restrictions. Outside applicable exceptions, it does not allow changes or refunds. Points earning and some status benefits also differ. Read your booking conditions rather than assuming a status or card benefit makes the fare fully flexible.
Flex fares may remove change or cancellation fees, but a fare difference can still apply. Whether you receive a refund or credit depends on the fare and ticket conditions.
UltraBasic normally includes a personal item without an allowed standard carry-on bag. Official exceptions include travel to or from Europe and Asia, and purchasing Extended Comfort on every flight in a single direction, including connections. Outside an exception, arriving at the gate with a carry-on can mean checking it and paying additional charges.
For checked bags, review the fare, number of pieces, weight limits, and fees for the entire journey. A card or status benefit may cover the first checked bag without changing UltraBasic’s cabin-bag restriction.
Our WestJet baggage guide provides more context. Current official conditions and your booking allowance take precedence over examples from an older article.
Extended Comfort, Premium, and Business
Extended Comfort is an option within Economy. The official Extended Comfort page describes extra legroom and priority services. It does not turn the seat into Premium or Business.
Cabins and seats vary by aircraft. The fare chart specifies that fully flat Business seating is on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Do not infer the product on a Boeing 737 from a report about the 787.
Use WestJet’s Flight Guide for the flight you are considering, then check the seat map in your booking. Our WestJet Business Class overview adds context; it does not guarantee your departure’s cabin.
Wi-Fi, meals, and lounges
The official entertainment pages distinguish WestJet Connect content from internet access. Wi-Fi presented by TELUS is free for WestJet Rewards members on equipped aircraft. The rollout is ongoing, so free internet is not guaranteed on every flight.
Check equipment, duration, and scheduled service before relying on a meal or power outlet. Download your travel documents and keep a charging option for periods without connectivity.
You can use WestJet points under the conditions of WestJet Rewards. Compare the points required, remaining payment, and change conditions with the cash ticket price.
You can also use Flying Blue Miles for eligible WestJet Economy reward flights. The official Flying Blue partner page covers flights marketed by WestJet (WS) and operated by WestJet (WS), subject to reward availability. Search “Book with Miles” on Air France or KLM; if online booking is not possible, Flying Blue directs members to its customer service.
Our WestJet with Flying Blue tutorial explains this option, while the Flying Blue program guide retains detailed rules. This is a ticket booked with Flying Blue Miles, not a transfer of Miles to WestJet Rewards. Compare taxes, fees, and conditions for both options, without assuming every paid seat is available as a reward.
Which credit cards suit a WestJet trip?
The WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard and WestJet RBC Mastercard earn WestJet points directly. The embeds below show their current offers and promotional copy. Compare fees, spending requirements, income eligibility, and baggage or companion benefits for your situation.
These cards do not earn Flying Blue Miles. If you choose the Flying Blue booking route, check eligible sources of Miles and transfers in our Flying Blue guide. Find a reward seat before transferring points.

The transaction posting date of each Qualifying Transaction, not the transaction date, will determine whether the transaction will count towards the Qualifying Transaction Amount. Additional cardholders(s) (co-applicant and authorized user(s)), as well as existing cardholders on any RBC Royal Bank personal credit card account, transferring to a WestJet RBC World Elite Mastercard during the Offer Period, are not eligible for this offer.

Questions before you book
Does UltraBasic include a standard carry-on bag?
Normally no: a personal item is included. Exceptions include travel to or from Europe and Asia, or buying Extended Comfort for all flights in a single direction, including connections. Check your booking’s exact allowance.
Does WestJet serve Montreal’s Saint-Hubert airport?
WestJet flights in Montreal use Montréal-Trudeau, YUL, in Dorval. MET in Saint-Hubert uses airport code YHU and is a different airport. WestJet does not offer flights there in the network checked for this guide.
Can I book WestJet with Flying Blue Miles?
Yes. Flying Blue allows WestJet Economy reward bookings, subject to availability, on flights marketed and operated by WestJet. Search with Book with Miles on Air France or KLM; contact Flying Blue if online booking is not possible.
Is Extended Comfort the same as Premium?
No. It is an Economy option with features such as extra legroom and priority services. Premium and Business are separate cabin products.
Does every WestJet flight have a lie-flat Business seat?
No. The official fare chart associates fully flat Business seats with the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Check your flight’s aircraft and seat map.
Do WestJet RBC cards earn Flying Blue Miles?
No. The WestJet RBC cards presented here earn WestJet points. Flying Blue Miles and eligible transfer sources belong to a separate program; compare the options before booking.
