Philippine Airlines offers nonstop flights between Toronto or Vancouver and Manila. Its Mabuhay Miles loyalty program lets members use miles for award tickets and cabin upgrades.
Philippine Airlines from Canada
Philippine Airlines communications describe nonstop services to Vancouver and Toronto. Check the departures available in the booking engine, since capacity-increase announcements can apply to a future period. The timetable offered for your own dates remains essential when comparing flights.
Our Toronto Pearson guide helps plan departures through YYZ. For Vancouver, see our YVR lounge guide and check admission separately. A lounge option cannot replace reading the fare rules and confirming the flight schedule for your trip.
Beyond Manila, compare connections with the stay you want to organize. Our Philippines itinerary helps plan stops before purchasing domestic flights. The price of the long-haul ticket alone does not establish the budget for a trip involving several islands and separately purchased onward sectors.
Check the aircraft and cabin
The available products depend on the aircraft and route. Before paying for Business or Premium Economy, open your flight’s seat map and seat description. A presentation of the newest fleet does not guarantee that the model is assigned to every Canadian departure.
Check each sector’s cabin if continuing beyond Manila. A ticket highlighted as premium can include a portion in another class. For two travellers, establish that two seats are available in the intended long-haul cabin before arranging the rest of the itinerary around an award result.
A former Philippine Airlines aircraft now operated by another carrier does not automatically describe PAL’s current service. Distinguish the seat configuration, operating airline and date of the experience. Photographs in a review cannot establish a product guarantee for a different carrier, route or future booking.
Baggage for the Philippines
PAL’s travel basics directs travellers to cabin and checked-baggage conditions. Check the allowance recorded in your booking, particularly when combining travel from Canada with a domestic connection. A total weight allowance should not be confused with a piece allowance or applied to an unrelated route.
The airline also explains baggage rules for multi-city travel. The route and carriers influence the applicable rules. An allowance found for a standalone regional flight cannot simply be copied onto a different international journey involving additional sectors or partner airlines.
When carrying gifts or equipment, weigh each bag and check its dimensions. Compare extra charges before departure instead of assuming two allowances can be pooled into one piece. Review the return trip and any separate island flights too, since those purchases may involve different baggage conditions.
Manila connections and lounges
Plan the transfer around the flights actually booked. Identify the terminals and any required baggage procedures. One booking reference does not remove the need to read connection instructions; separate tickets require particular attention to the margin between flights and the consequences of a delayed arrival.
For lounge admission, check the Business fare, Mabuhay Miles status or access method you intend to use. Codeshare agreements do not create universal benefits. A listed partner can have different conditions for earning, awards, baggage and lounges, so verify the particular service rather than assuming every benefit follows.
oneworld entry has been announced
The oneworld announcement of June 6, 2026 describes Philippine Airlines as a member-designate invited to join the alliance. It places reciprocal benefits after entry. The announcement alone cannot establish immediate access to all Avios awards or oneworld status benefits on PAL-operated flights.
Before using a partner’s points or status, find the operating rule applying to the flight you have selected. PAL codeshare agreements are another type of partnership. Their existence does not prove that a particular program can issue every PAL award or provide the same benefits as full alliance integration.
If your decision depends on one precise benefit, confirm it with the program before paying. Alliance-integration timelines can change. Avoid moving points to an account on the assumption that an announced benefit will necessarily be available for your departure or apply to your chosen fare.
Using Mabuhay Miles
The Mabuhay Miles redemption page presents award flights and upgrades. Search the availability and charges for your itinerary. An expired promotion is not the regular award chart; compare the current result and the conditions of the ticket actually being offered for your travel dates.
Identify the miles you already hold and where they came from. Transfer advice concerning a Philippine bank does not establish that a Canadian card supports the same conversion. The Canadian American Express directory should not be described as a direct Mabuhay Miles pathway without evidence that the program is an eligible partner.
Paid tickets and travel credits
Canadians without a useful Mabuhay Miles balance can compare a paid fare with rewards redeemable as a travel credit. The Scotiabank Gold American Express Card earns Scene+ points. The issuer’s conditions explain applying points to eligible travel purchases.
This approach does not convert Scene+ points into PAL miles. You book a paid ticket and use the program’s credit-redemption options under its conditions. Check eligible purchases, deadlines and the required balance before including that reimbursement in the budget or assuming every charge will qualify.
Build a useful comparison
For a family visit followed by another island, compare an immediate connection with an overnight stay in Manila. Include transfers and bags on separately purchased domestic flights. If a paid fare suits the journey, an eligible rewards credit may be more practical than beginning with an airline program in which you hold no miles.
Keep a record of the same dates and passenger count: operating carrier, cabin on each sector, baggage and conditions. Compare journeys you could actually take. A fare for one traveller without checked bags cannot establish the cost for a family needing seats together and several pieces of luggage across the entire itinerary.
After deciding, check every traveller’s name and the local dates. Open the issued ticket details and retain confirmations for purchased services. Following a schedule change, revisit the connections and options; retaining the same booking reference does not establish that the revised journey still meets your requirements or preserves the services you paid for.
Separate the airfare from the budget at the destination. An award does not eliminate airport transfers, travel between cities or meals. Allowing for those expenses makes it easier to compare a premium cabin with a less expensive flight that leaves more of the budget for the activities you actually want to include in the stay.
Compare awards with a cash ticket
Start by searching the complete itinerary in Mabuhay Miles. Use the same dates, passenger count and cabin for each comparison. If a seat appears for one traveller, repeat the search for the full party: a single-seat result does not prove that a family can travel together at that price.
- Points: record the total required for every segment, rather than a starting price for one flight.
- Cash: add taxes, program charges and any necessary extras still missing from the booking.
- Conditions: compare change and cancellation options with the cash fare you would otherwise buy.
A seat sold on Philippine Airlines’s website is not necessarily available to a partner program. A missing award result does not prove the aircraft is full either. If the booking tool cannot construct the expected trip, check the possibilities with the issuing program before making a decision about your points.
The points-or-cash calculator can help compare a redemption with a real expense. Use the price of a ticket you would actually purchase with reasonably similar conditions. A very expensive Business Class fare can produce an impressive calculation without representing cash you were ever willing to spend.
Buying a points top-up
Consider buying points after locating an available award. Add the purchase price to the ticket’s cash charges and necessary extras. Compare that complete cost with a fare usable on your actual dates, rather than a theoretical lowest price for a different month.
If your account displays a purchase offer, check its deadline, eligibility and crediting time. An older promotional article cannot establish that a bonus remains available today. Buying the operating airline’s points does not automatically add funds to a separate Mabuhay Miles account.
A purchase does not reserve the seat while payment and crediting are processed. If the budget depends on one precise award, consider the risk that it disappears and leaves you with points but no suitable flight. For urgent travel, a cash ticket may be more practical than waiting for several transfers or purchases.
Compare the complete journey
For two travellers, first confirm two seats in the intended long-haul cabin. If only one sector is in Business, identify which one. Compare a nearby travel date before accepting a much longer journey: moving departure by a day may be more useful than adding another connection.
When travelling with checked bags, compare the initial Economy fare, that fare with required extras, and the next fare family. Apply the same baggage needs in both directions. Choose the total and conditions that suit the trip rather than the lowest number on the first booking screen.
For separate connections, include the time and cost of a possible overnight stay. Consider what you would do if the first flight changes schedule after purchase. Before booking, verify official destination and transit requirements for your passport and actual route; a flight listing is not a substitute for this check.
Choosing the itinerary
Philippine Airlines is worth comparing when its route through Manila, cabin and available awards fit your destination. Our Cathay Pacific guide provides another point of comparison. Repeat the search with your own dates instead of treating an example itinerary as guaranteed availability.
Use the operating airline’s information for the onboard product and the issuing program’s conditions for the award ticket. After a schedule change, recheck the flights and paid services; a different departure time can alter the usefulness of a connection or seat-selection purchase.

Compare Canadian credit cards
Our best Canadian credit cards guide helps compare fees and programs. An eligible travel credit is different from a Mabuhay Miles award. Choose according to the ticket you found and your ordinary spending, without depending on a bank conversion absent from the Canadian terms.
