What to Do in Ottawa

Visit the Parliament of Canada

Stroll Along the Rideau Canal
The Rideau Canal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Walking along this waterway, you’ll discover a series of fascinating outdoor exhibits.
There are seven specific locations that tell part of Canada’s story, highlighting canal engineering, aboriginal culture, bridges, Lansdowne Park and the adventures of early settlers.
Every Sunday until October 27, 2024, head to Lansdowne Park, home to a farmer’s market.

Visit the National Gallery of Canada

Discover Sparks Street Mall
Sparks Street Mall is located one block south of the Parliament of Canada. It’s a lively pedestrian street brimming with unique boutiques, original sculptures and charming restaurants.
On Sparks Street, you’ll find the excellent Riviera Ottawa bistro, one of the city’s finest restaurants. Feel free to explore this quaint shopping district for treasures and admire the downtown architecture.
Shopping in the ByWard Market
The ByWard Market is a true showcase of Ottawa life and a must-see destination for food and culture lovers. It’s a food hub where all tastes are represented. The streets in this area are lively and the atmosphere cheerful.
Nestled in the heart of downtown, it offers a mosaic of flavours, colours and local products. Farmers’ stalls, craft stores and eclectic restaurants attract a diverse crowd.
Marché de Provence is always ready to sell its good cookies, especially the one that President Barack Obama bought during his popular visit in 2009.
For comfort food, go to Zak’s Diner, JOEY Rideau or Corazon De Maiz.
If you happen to be in the Vanier neighbourhood, stop by Louis Pizza, an unpretentious restaurant that literally makes one of the best pizzas around. Top it off with a coconut pie.
Last but not least, you absolutely must try the famous beaver tail, a soft pastry topped with various flavours such as cinnamon sugar or chocolate.
One World Bazaar
The One World Bazaar market unearths treasures created by artisans from around the world. Visit this authentic barn, open until November 17, 2024, a half-hour drive from downtown Ottawa at Manotick Station.
Pumpkin Festival
Located 30 minutes east of downtown Ottawa, Ferme Proulx will be offering a wide range of activities until October 27, 2024. The Pumpkin Festival will entertain the whole family with its wagon rides, tricycle park and mazes.
Ottawa Senators
In Kanata, you could attend an Ottawa Senators field hockey game. It’s a must-see experience for sports fans. The Canadian Tire Centre vibrates with excitement at every game.
What to Do in Gatineau
Gatineau Park
Gatineau Park is a huge playground and a wonderful Canadian outdoor destination. It’s a natural gem located near Ottawa.
Treat yourself to a leisurely walk on easy trails along peaceful lakes, or go on more challenging excursions leading to spectacular views of the region. Cycling is also popular, with trails to suit all levels.

- Champlain Lookout is Gatineau Park’s most popular viewpoint;
- Hiking and mountain biking trails at Philippe Lake.
Camp Fortune
Camp Fortune is located in Gatineau Park. Try the region’s newest attraction: mountain sledding. Ride the monorail track through the colorful forest at speeds of up to 40 km/h!
You can also explore the park from the air until October 20, 2024.
