The Marriott Nagasaki opened its doors in 2024 and is already establishing itself as an excellent option for travelers visiting this port city in southern Japan. As part of a couple’s trip through Kyushu Island, Nagasaki marked our final stop. We were looking for a central place to relax and fully enjoy this city with its hilly terrain and unique charm.

Booking
Rates at the Marriott Nagasaki remain more accessible than those in major Japanese metropolises. Additionally, point booking options also exist for Marriott Bonvoy members. For our part, we chose to pay in cash by booking a base room, while hoping for a potential upgrade.
This strategy paid off as the upgrade eventually materialized. Thus, this pleasant surprise added even more value to an already very successful stay, with no particular additional costs to note.
Arrival and Location
A Central and Convenient Location
Located in the Onouemachi district, the Marriott Nagasaki enjoys a particularly convenient location for train travelers. Indeed, the hotel is directly integrated into Nagasaki JR Station. The neighborhood is central, close to major attractions, restaurants, and shopping areas. Consequently, it constitutes an excellent starting point for exploring Nagasaki on foot or by public transport. To reach Nagasaki Airport, located about 40 km away, several options exist. However, in my case, I had a very early morning flight and public transport was not in service. I therefore had to pay about $150 for a taxi, which should be taken into consideration in your planning.
Check-In and Lobby
At the Marriott Nagasaki, the lobby remains quite ordinary at first glance: neat and functional, but without a particular “wow” effect. In fact, one immediately recognizes Marriott brand standards.
However, it is at the service level that the experience takes on its full dimension. The welcome is particularly attentive, with the presence of the manager who comes to personalize the moment. Furthermore, the announcement of an upgrade upon check-in is very appreciated and adds a touch of recognition and surprise from the start.
The Room: A Spectacular Corner Suite
We stayed in a corner suite, located on the highest floor of the Marriott Nagasaki. This room offers a spectacular view that stands out from the entrance, particularly over the Port of Nagasaki. The large balcony is especially impressive and allows one to fully enjoy this panorama between the sea and the hills.

As for the space, it is generous and very well appointed. The elegant and refined furniture reinforces the overall comfort. Furthermore, the luxurious bathroom perfectly completes the ensemble with its bathtub, walk-in shower, and floor-to-ceiling windows offering an unobstructed view.

The mountain-view rooms offer a more peaceful atmosphere, ideal for relaxing after a day of exploration. Additionally, the modern furniture and contemporary decor harmonize perfectly with the Japanese aesthetic.

The dining offer at the Marriott Nagasaki is well-structured, with several complementary concepts that highlight local products and refined cuisine.
HARBELLA
An elegant and bright table where I particularly appreciated the mix of international cuisine and local Kyushu products. The breakfast stands out notably, with a beautiful variety of fresh and tasty products.
De Jima
A more immersive experience, where one enjoys the atmosphere as much as the plate. Japanese cuisine is well-executed here, with quality products prepared with precision directly in front of the guests.
Sushi De Jima
A more intimate counter, ideal for an experience centered around traditional sushi. The fish is very fresh, and the approach remains simple, truly putting the focus on the product.
THE AZURITE
A pleasant lounge space to end the day, whether for a drink or a quieter moment. The atmosphere is cozy, with a fine selection of cocktails and a view that adds to the pleasure.
Other services and facilities
At the Marriott Nagasaki, wellness facilities remain quite limited, which is more typical of a recent urban hotel. Indeed, there is neither a spa nor a pool. However, a modern and well-equipped gym, accessible 24 hours a day, does the job very well for an effective workout.
What to Do Around the Hotel
Around the Marriott Nagasaki, the surroundings are convenient without being particularly lively. Nevertheless, there are still a few interesting attractions nearby.
