It will be recalled that in July 2021, Visa entered into a temporary agreement with DragonPass, valid until June 30, 2022.
Visa has just confirmed that as of July 1, 2022, this partnership agreement will become permanent with DragonPass. The program will be called Visa Airport Companion Program in Canada.
A few weeks ago, Mastercard did the same thing, also choosing the DragonPass network, instead of LoungeKey.
This change for travelers is beneficial, as the Dragon Pass network has more airport lounge(1,300). In addition, the Plaza Premium lounge network is linked to Dragon Pass, which will add another 180 accessible loungeunlike Priority Pass.
Eligible Visa credit card will receive free access through the Visa Airport Companion program. Additional visits will cost $32 USD.
For example, Visa Infinite Preferred card have 6 free lounge visits through DragonPass!
Then, CIBC Aventura® Visa Infinite* Card and CIBC Aventura® Gold Visa* Cardholders have four free visits.
And finally, the Scotiabank Passport™ Visa Infinite +* Card gives you six annual free visits.
The following credit card are eligible for the Visa Airport Companion Program:
Beginning July 1, 2022, eligible card will be able to enroll on this page in the Visa Airport Companion Program. They will also be able to do so by downloading the Visa Airport Companion Program application.
You do not need a special physical card to access the lounge benefits of the Visa Airport Companion Program. You simply have to:
Right now, if you have free Priority Pass lounge visits left on your Visa card, you need to use them before June 30, 2022. After that, since Priority Pass lounge access will no longer be offered, they will be lost.
Unfortunately, this also means that as of July 1, 2022, you will no longer have access to airport restaurants with Priority Pass.
All of this will be replaced by access through the Visa Airport Companion program via DragonPass. Note that they have very few airport restaurants. Let’s hope this changes in the coming months.
Annual visits are based on the enrollment anniversary date in the new Visa Airport Companion program. So it’s best to time your trips around when the free visits expire.
