Amex Platinum Card Loses Lufthansa Lounge Access in Canada

Since October 1, 2026, the American Express Platinum Card® no longer gets you into Lufthansa lounges. The change applies to the card issued in Canada: Lufthansa lounges in Frankfurt, Berlin and Newark have been removed from the list of lounges available to Canadian Platinum Cardmembers. According to the American Express benefits page, every Lufthansa lounge that used to be part of the Global Lounge Collection is affected.
If you connect through Frankfurt or Munich on Lufthansa, SWISS or Austrian Airlines, you lose one of the card's most tangible perks. Most other lounge networks stay in place, but you now need to know where to go, and to plan around the Priority Pass and Plaza Premium limits coming in 2027.
Until September 30, 2026, a Platinum Cardmember could enter select Lufthansa lounges by showing the card, government-issued ID and a same-day boarding pass on a Lufthansa Group flight (Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines). Business Lounges were open regardless of ticket class, and Senator Lounges when flying business class.
Since October 1, 2026, your Platinum Card no longer gets you into any Lufthansa lounge through the Global Lounge Collection. The American Express Canada lounge finder no longer lists them for the Platinum Card (Canada): in Frankfurt it now points to the LuxxLounge in Terminal 1 (Concourses B and C), and in Berlin to Lounge Tegel in Terminal 1.
The Platinum Card keeps unlimited access to several networks. The number of free guests depends on the network.
| Lounge network | Access | Free guests |
|---|---|---|
| Centurion Lounges | Unlimited | 2 companions |
| Plaza Premium | Unlimited until December 31, 2026 | 1 companion |
| Priority Pass (enrolment required) | Unlimited until December 31, 2026 | 1 companion |
| Executive Lounges by Swissport (Canada) | Unlimited | Spouse and 2 children under 21, or 1 companion |
| Delta Sky Club | Under American Express conditions | None |
| Lufthansa lounges | No access since October 1, 2026 | Not applicable |
The Lufthansa Business Lounge in JFK Terminal 1 still shows up for the Platinum Card, but only through Priority Pass, and with very limited hours. Priority Pass members are admitted only on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. From Thursday to Monday, they are turned away.
To use it, you first need to enrol in the Priority Pass membership that comes with the card: it is not automatic.

Access to Lufthansa lounges now depends only on your ticket class or your status. In practice:
If you fly economy without status, the Platinum Card will no longer get you into a Lufthansa lounge. Look for a Priority Pass or Plaza Premium lounge in the same terminal instead. Our Miles & More program guide explains how to earn status with Lufthansa.
Losing Lufthansa lounges is only the first step: starting January 1, 2027, your free visits to Priority Pass and Plaza Premium lounges will be capped at 6 per calendar year in each of the two networks for the primary Cardmember, and at 2 for each supplementary Cardmember, according to American Express Canada. Keep in mind that every guest you bring in also counts toward that cap. You unlock unlimited access by reaching $20,000 in eligible spending in the calendar year, and it then lasts for the rest of that year and the next. All the details are in our article on the 2027 lounge access limit for Platinum Cards.
The Platinum Card's annual fee is $799. If you mostly connect through Frankfurt or Munich, you lose real value from the card, especially with the 2027 cap. If you mostly fly through Canadian and US airports, the Centurion, Plaza Premium and Priority Pass networks cover most of your needs.

Since October 1, 2026, the American Express Platinum Card no longer gets you into Lufthansa lounges. Before your next flight on Lufthansa, SWISS or Austrian Airlines, look up the lounge that stays open in your terminal in the American Express Canada lounge finder, and enrol in Priority Pass if you haven't already.
