Discover Airlines: this article brings together new destinations and the 2026-2027 schedule relevant to Canadian travellers. The October 20, 2026 release announced Frankfurt–Edmonton from June 1, 2027, with 3 weekly Frankfurt departures on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
This route provides a new nonstop option between Edmonton and Germany. Discover Airlines partners with Aeroplan; check earning rules and booking class before choosing where to credit the flight.
Edmonton Becomes Discover Airlines' Third Canadian City
Discover Airlines already flies to Calgary and Halifax from Frankfurt. Edmonton joins that network in summer 2027, making Discover the only airline flying nonstop between Germany and Alberta's capital.
The airline is pitching Rockies road trips: fly into Edmonton and home from Calgary, for example, with a one-way ticket on each route.
Flights can be booked on the Discover Airlines and Lufthansa websites and through travel agencies. To plan your time at the airport, read our Edmonton Airport (YEG) guide.
Aircraft and Cabins
Discover Airlines flies Airbus A330-300s on its long-haul routes. They offer 3 cabins:
Economy: the standard cabin
Premium Economy: more space and a wider seat
Business: seats that convert into fully flat beds
Check the cabin and aircraft when you book, since assignments can change before summer 2027.
Earning Aeroplan Points on Discover Airlines
Discover Airlines has three frequent flyer partners: Miles & More, the Lufthansa Group program, plus Aeroplan and United MileagePlus. For most Canadian travellers, crediting these flights to Aeroplan makes the most sense: the points land in the balance you already use for flight rewards with Air Canada and its partners.
How many points you earn depends on the ticket you buy, so check Aeroplan's airline partner earning chart before booking. Add your Aeroplan number to the reservation, or give it at check-in, so the flight is credited.
The Lufthansa Group's summer 2027 schedule goes beyond Edmonton. Two other changes matter for travellers in Quebec:
Lufthansa: extra frequencies between Frankfurt and Montreal
Austrian Airlines: Vienna-Montreal stays on the schedule, like its other transatlantic routes, with 5 to 7 flights a week on a Boeing 777
Lufthansa hasn't yet said exactly how many Frankfurt-Montreal flights it is adding.

The same release also announced the takeover of Lufthansa’s Seattle–Frankfurt/Munich services from late March 2027. Frankfurt–Belize City is planned from December 16, 2027, twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays until mid-April 2028. These are flights to the United States and Belize, rather than nonstop flights from Canada.
