Air Canada Phone Booking Fee: $30 per Passenger Starting October 15, 2026

Starting October 15, 2026, Air Canada charges a booking fee of CA$30, plus applicable taxes, per passenger on any new reservation made by phone with an agent at its Contact Centre. The fee is non-refundable, even if you cancel the ticket later.
Booking on aircanada.com or in the Air Canada app stays free. Members of the Aeroplan program already know the drill: flight rewards booked through an agent were already subject to a booking fee, and that has not changed.
The new Air Canada booking fee targets one thing only: creating a new reservation over the phone with an agent. It is charged per passenger, not per booking.
The fee shows up as its own line on your receipt. It is not part of the airfare or of the carrier-imposed charges.
Air Canada points to its digital tools as the reason: the website and the app handle everyday needs, which shortens phone wait times and frees agents for cases that need personal help.
The table below sums up each situation, from the most common to the least.
| Situation | Booking fee |
|---|---|
| New booking on aircanada.com or in the Air Canada app | No fee |
| New paid flight booking by phone with an agent | CA$30 + tax per passenger, non-refundable |
| New Aeroplan flight reward booking by phone | Existing booking fee, still applies |
| Call about an existing booking | No booking fee (change or cancellation fees per fare) |
| Booked flight hit by a delay or cancellation | No fee |
| Customer with accessibility needs | Exempt |
| Booking through a travel agency | Fees set by the agency |
For an Aeroplan flight reward, nothing is new. The Contact Centre booking fee already applied to rewards booked through an agent, and it keeps applying after October 15, 2026. The new rule simply brings paid tickets in line with the policy already in place for rewards.
This booking fee comes on top of existing fare rules. Fees to change or cancel a reward still depend on the fare option you pick, and our guide to Aeroplan reward change and cancellation fees lays them out table by table.
Some customers are exempt from the booking fee, even when they go through an agent.
For accessibility support before or during your trip, Air Canada's Accessibility Services team is at 1-800-667-4732.
If you book through a travel agency, its own terms apply: each travel agent sets its own fees.
The easiest way is to book yourself online. Air Canada's website and app let you book a flight, pick your seat, buy travel options, check in and, during a disruption, accept a new flight, change your itinerary or request a refund without calling.
Before booking online, take a minute to compare fare options: our article on Air Canada's different fare classes helps you pick one that avoids change fees later.
If an online booking gets stuck, the Contact Centre (1-888-247-2262) can complete it. Depending on the circumstances, the booking fee may then apply. Note the error message and try again later, or on another device, before you call.
Starting October 15, 2026, a new Air Canada booking made by phone costs an extra CA$30 + tax per passenger, with no refund. Book online or in the app, and keep the phone for disruptions and accessibility needs, which remain exempt.
