Everyone who joins starts their elite journey as a VIPorter Member, and then from there, you can move up into the four elite status tiers. These four status tiers are: VIPorter Passport, VIPorter Venture, VIPorter Ascent, and VIPorter First.

Elite Status Tiers

Once you make it to an elite status level within the VIPorter program, you’re considered an Avid Traveller. Each of the four Avid Traveller levels offer increased perk and benefits to make your travels smoother and more comfortable.

The benefits range from free seat selection to priority re-booking during a delay/cancellation and more.

VIPorter Elite Tiers

VIPorter Member

When you join Porter Airline’s loyalty program, you begin your status journey as a VIPorter Member. All members enjoy the following benefits:

  • Earn 5 points per $1 spent on eligible Porter purchases
  • No points expiry
  • Pay for flights with points or a combination of points and cash
  • Get 500 points when you book your first flight and get members-only offers

VIPorter Passport

As you move along your path towards VIPorter Avid Traveller elite status, the first level you’ll reach is VIPorter Passport. At this level, you get the benefits from the VIPorter Member level, plus the following:

  • Earn 6 points per $1 spent on eligible Porter purchases
  • 20% points bonus when you choose to earn VIPorter points with Alaska Airlines
  • Share your Avid Traveller benefits with other travellers on the same booking
  • Priority call centre service
  • Priority re-accommodation for flight delays

Additionally, at this level (and all levels following), you get to enjoy the VIPorter Head Start and parental leave benefits, which we explain further in sections below.

VIPorter Venture

Next, at the VIPorter Venture level, you get everything listed above plus:

  • Earn 6 points per $1 spent on eligible Porter purchases
  • 20% points bonus when you choose to earn VIPorter points with Alaska Airlines
  • Complimentary PorterClassic seat selection on flights operated by Porter Airlines
  • Complimentary carry-on bag with PorterClassic Basic fare
  • One complimentary checked bag
  • One PorterReserve Certificate

The notable perk at this level is the PorterReserve Certificate. You earn your first certificate after you spend $3,000 in the calendar year, and you then earn another for every $2,000 you spend that year.

You can apply your PorterReserve Certificate to a new or existing booking, and by doing so, you can enjoy the perks of a PorterReserve booking instantly.

These perks include a front-of-the-plan seat with extra legroom, enhanced snacks/meals, no flight change fees, two free checked bags, and more.

  • Earn 7 points per $1 spent on eligible Porter purchases
  • 40% points bonus when you choose to earn VIPorter points with Alaska Airlines

  • Earn 7 points per $1 spent on eligible Porter purchases
  • 40% points bonus when you choose to earn VIPorter points with Alaska Airlines
  • Guaranteed reservation
  • Guaranteed next flight re-accommodation

As you can see, this final tier is nearly identical to the one before it but with one very important difference.

As a VIPorter First member, with the guaranteed reservation feature, you’re guaranteed a seat on a sold-out Porter flight as long you purchased a Porter Classic Freedom fare or higher.

Additionally, your elite status means that if your Porter flight is cancelled, you’re guaranteed to be on the next departing flight to your destination.

As you can imagine, these benefits can be truly invaluable when there are ongoing delays and cancellations.

Earning VIPorter Avid Traveller Status

You can earn VIPorter Avid Traveller status two ways: you can meet qualifying spend requirements, or you can get a jump-start on your Avid Traveller elite status by holding either the BMO VIPorter Mastercard or the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard.

Qualifying Spend

The primary way to earn VIPorter Avid Traveller elite status is by meeting annual qualifying spend requirements.

The VIPorter elite status tier that you can enjoy is based on how much you spend with Porter Airlines and partners over the course of the calendar year (January 1 to December 31).

You can early “qualifying spend” toward elite status on base fares, luggage fees, seat selection fees, change fees, and more. Essentially, you earn qualifying spend on pretty much everything except taxes and airport/other fees.

The minimum qualifying spend for each Avid Traveller tier are as follows:

  • VIPorter Passport – $2,000
  • VIPorter Venture – $3,000
  • VIPorter Ascent – $6,000
  • VIPorter First – $10,000

Once you’ve spent enough to reach the next VIPorter elite status, you’ll have access to the associated benefits until December 31 of the following year.

This means that if you qualified for VIPorter Venture status on April 5, 2025, you’d enjoy this Avid Traveller status level until December 31, 2026.

Credit Cards

If you’re looking for a way to climb up the VIPorter elite tiers quickly, the BMO VIPorter Mastercards are your best bet.

The BMO VIPorter Mastercard gives you automatic VIPorter Avid Traveller Passport membership, and the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard gives you automatic VIPorter Avid Traveller Venture.

Additionally, both cards let you earn $1 in qualifying spend for every $25 you spend on the card.

Plus, with the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard, we’ve seen welcome offers that give you upwards of $1,000 in qualifying spend when you meet the offer’s requirements, putting you on the fast track to the next Avid Traveller tier!

VIPorter Head Start

As soon as you reach the first VIPorter Avid Traveller level, you gain access to the VIPorter Head Start feature.

With this added bonus, any qualifying spend that you make over your current status level can be carried over to give you a boost on earning status next year.

For example, if you $2,000 and earned the VIPorter Passport elite status in October, and then spent another $500 in qualifying spend before December, this $500 would be carried over into the following year to give you a head start on your elite status.

VIPorter’s Avid Traveller program also offers new parents the chance to extend their membership level benefits for 18 months. To apply for the VIPorter parental leave benefit, you’ll need to contact Porter and provide some documentation.

Bottom Line

VIPorter Avid Traveller elite status lets you earn VIPorter points faster and enjoy a bunch of perks and benefits to make your travels more enjoyable.

Combine this elite status with the BMO VIPorter Mastercard or the BMO VIPorter World Elite Mastercard, and you’ll be enjoying award flights and enhanced travel experiences in no time.
