Air India offers nonstop travel from Toronto and Vancouver to India, with connections beyond its Indian gateways. Before booking, compare the full itinerary, the cabin scheduled for your flight and the rewards account you plan to use. Maharaja Club and Aeroplan are separate programs.

Flying Air India from Canada: Delhi and Mumbai
Air India’s winter 2026–2027 Canadian schedule includes Toronto–Delhi, Vancouver–Delhi and seasonal Toronto–Mumbai service. The Mumbai route began on October 25, 2026. Toronto Pearson confirms three weekly flights through March 26, 2027.
Air India’s Canadian winter announcement describes a mix of aircraft on Toronto–Delhi. A route announcement does not confirm the seat on every departure. Our Air India Canadian service update follows these changes.
From another Canadian city, check the operating carrier on each segment. An itinerary sold by Air India may include a partner flight. A single ticket and two separate bookings provide different protection if a delay causes a missed connection.
Cabins: check your flight’s seat map
Air India is gradually replacing aircraft and renewing interiors. Its Canadian announcement distinguishes new Boeing 787-9s from aircraft with older configurations. A booking showing a Boeing 787 or 777 does not, by itself, establish which cabin you will get.
Before paying for Business Class or Premium Economy, open the seat map for your departure. Check the layout, neighbouring seats, aisle access and advertised features. A new livery does not prove an aircraft has a refurbished interior, and aircraft substitutions remain possible.
For other routes to India or Asia, compare our Air Canada guide and ANA guide. Include total travel time and connections when comparing cabins and fares.
Fares, baggage and connections in India
Price the trip with the bags and seat selection you need. Read the change and cancellation rules, including whether you would receive a refund or a credit. The conditions attached to your ticket matter more than a general cabin description.
Air India’s cabin baggage rules allow 7 kg in Economy and Premium Economy, and 10 kg in Business and First Class. A small personal item is permitted subject to separate size and weight limits. Check your ticket for the checked baggage allowance; Indian domestic allowances should not be applied to a Canada–India itinerary.
At Delhi or Mumbai, a connection may involve terminals, entry formalities and another baggage check. Confirm the documents required for your nationality and route. With separate tickets, allow time to collect bags as well as a buffer for delays.
Lounges: confirm the specific access rule
A Business Class ticket, an eligible frequent flyer status and a credit card lounge benefit can provide different access. Check the lounge, terminal, opening hours and guest policy for your trip. Holding a travel credit card does not grant access to every lounge Air India uses.
An upgrade may also retain some conditions of the original ticket. The Maharaja Club FAQs explain that certain airport voucher upgrades do not add lounge access when the original ticket did not include it.
Points: Maharaja Club or Aeroplan?
Maharaja Club, formerly Flying Returns, is Air India’s own program. Before crediting a paid flight, compare the earning rules for your booking class and where you expect to redeem the rewards.
Air India is also a Star Alliance partner that can be booked using Aeroplan points, subject to partner award availability. A cash seat on Air India’s website does not establish that Aeroplan has access to it. Search for your dates, party size and cabin before transferring points.
Canadian American Express Membership Rewards points can transfer to Aeroplan under the Canadian airline partner terms. This does not create Maharaja Club points. Check the displayed ratio, transfer timing and the award’s points and cash total. Airline transfers are generally irreversible.
Canadian credit cards to compare
Cobalt: Membership Rewards with a transfer option
The American Express Cobalt® Card earns Membership Rewards points. For an Air India flight booked through Aeroplan, first confirm an available award and its total cost, then review the transfer conditions. A cash flight displayed by Air India is not enough reason to transfer a balance.
The offer below comes from the card’s current record. Compare the fee, qualifying spending and issuer conditions with your normal budget.
TD Aeroplan: earn directly in Aeroplan
The TD® Aeroplan® Visa Infinite* Card earns Aeroplan points directly. It does not fund a Maharaja Club account. Card benefits that apply specifically to Air Canada flights should not be assumed to cover a flight operated by Air India.
Compare these choices with our best credit cards in Canada and Milesopedia newsletter. Welcome offers remain subject to eligibility and spending requirements.
Buying points to complete an available booking
If you need a small Aeroplan top-up, check the Aeroplan points purchase terms. Milesopedia may earn a commission through this partner link. Purchasing points does not secure an Air India award or lock its points price.
Air India separately offers Maharaja Club points purchases. New members must complete a revenue Air India flight before becoming eligible to buy. These points cannot be treated as an Aeroplan balance.
Add the purchase cost to the award’s taxes and fees, then compare that total with the cash fare. Check posting times, expiry and refund conditions. Avoid building a large purchased balance without a specific available redemption.
