The W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal, in the heart of the Conchal nature reserve, promises luxury and serenity, with breathtaking views and impeccable service. An idyllic setting for an unforgettable getaway!

Booking

Staying at the W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal is quite expensive: the average price is around US 600 per night. However, for Marriott Bonvoy members wishing to use points, nights generally range from 50,000 to 70,000 points per night, depending on the dates booked.

Arrival

Location

The W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal is located in the heart of the Guanacaste province, which I explored for a week. Nestled among mangroves and bordered by the white-sand beaches of Playa Conchal, this hotel is around 60 kilometers from Liberia’s Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport, a journey of around 1 hour and 15 minutes by car or bus.

Check-In and Lobby

Upon arrival at W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal, the experience begins in a unique way: you’re greeted in a large alcove used as a parking lot, a bold architectural detail that already announces the hotel’s exceptional character. Designed by an architect inspired by the structure of a beehive, the establishment pays homage to honey, a key food in the diet of the region’s inhabitants, contributing to their longevity and their belonging to one of the world’s few Blue Zones.

Once inside, the grandiose lobby impresses with its design and spectacular view of the pool and Pacific Ocean. Service is simply impeccable, with attention to every detail; I was even given a jar of honey as a gift! Finally, although I had booked a basic room, my Titanium status allowed me to be upgraded to a luxurious King Fantastic Suite with a breathtaking ocean view, a privilege that made my stay even more unforgettable.

Bedroom

The King Fantastic Suite Ocean View at W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal is literally breathtaking. Upon entering, you’re immediately struck by the elegance of the design, which harmoniously blends contemporary elements with touches inspired by the surrounding nature.

The space is generous, with a large open-plan lounge, a separate bedroom with ultra-comfortable king-size bed and bay windows that let in abundant natural light. The whole opens onto a private terrace offering breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean.

The bathroom is another highlight: spacious and refined, it features a rain shower and a deep bathtub located on the terrace, ideal for relaxing after a day in the sun. High-end bath products add an extra touch of well-being.

Finally, there’s no shortage of modern amenities, including Bluetooth speakers, a Nespresso coffee machine, a well-stocked minibar and a concierge service available at all times.

Restaurant

In the morning, I enjoyed an excellent breakfast, free of charge thanks to my Titanium status, at Cocina de Mercado, with fresh produce and a magnificent view. For a relaxing afternoon, the Zona Azul Beach Club is ideal for enjoying the beach, with light dishes and a relaxed atmosphere. In the evening, a cocktail at the Living Room is perfect for admiring the sunset before ending the day with a gourmet dinner at Latitud 10° Norte, where the flavours of Costa Rican terroir are showcased in refined cuisine.

Other Services

The hotel also offers several facilities for relaxing and staying active.

Gym

Its modern gym is perfectly equipped for fitness enthusiasts, while a dedicated yoga area allows you to practice in complete serenity, surrounded by nature. Open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, free to all hotel guests.

AWAY Spa

After a busy day, there’s nothing better than a moment of relaxation at the AWAY Spa, where massages and treatments offer a genuine wellness break in soothing surroundings.

Overall Impression

My stay at W Costa Rica – Reserva Conchal was an unforgettable experience. The idyllic setting, memorable suite and impeccable personalized service exceeded my expectations. The food was excellent, and as a frequent Marriott hotel guest, this was one of the establishments where I felt most at home.

Its strong points? An almost secret location in the heart of the reserve, offering the opportunity to observe monkeys in their natural habitat, an absolutely magnificent white sand beach, as well as two superb pools in which to relax. And let’s not forget an original touch: an optional zip line that takes you down to the beach, adding a dose of fun to the experience. A perfect place for travelers in search of luxury and relaxation.

The Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card is the best credit card in Canada for free hotel nights.

New Cardmembers can earn up to 110,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points with the current offer:

  • Earn 80,000 points after you spend $6,000 on your Card in your first 6 months of Cardmembership.
  • Plus, earn 30,000 points by making a purchase during your 15th month of Cardmembership.

This offer ends on September 22, 2026. The annual fee is $120, and there is no annual fee on Additional Cards, so you can add a partner or a family member at no extra cost.

Every year after your first Card anniversary, you receive an Annual Free Night Award good for a redemption of up to 35,000 points at eligible hotels and resorts worldwide. At a valuation of 0.9 cents per Marriott Bonvoy point, that certificate is worth roughly $315, which on its own more than covers the $120 annual fee. That is the main reason to keep this Card year after year instead of cancelling it.

To get the most out of the certificate, aim it at a night that would otherwise price close to the 35,000 point ceiling.

The Card also gives you 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year and automatic Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Those credits count toward the next Elite tier, so you begin every year 15 nights ahead of where you would otherwise start.

You move up to Gold Elite status automatically when you reach $30,000 in purchases on the Card in a year, or when you combine 10 qualifying paid nights within one calendar year with the 15 Elite Night Credits from your Card.

Marriott Bonvoy points are generally valued at 0.9 cents each. On that basis, the 110,000 point welcome offer is worth about $990, and an Annual Free Night Award used at its full 35,000 point ceiling is worth about $315.

Marriott Bonvoy points pull their weight on free nights rather than on gift cards or merchandise, which is why this Card should be judged on the hotel stays it produces.

You earn 5 points per dollar on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels and 2 points per dollar on all other purchases. Points can be redeemed for free nights with no blackout dates at more than 7,000 hotels around the world.

The Card carries a solid package of coverages: $500,000 travel accident insurance, flight delay, baggage delay, lost or stolen baggage and hotel or motel burglary at $500 each, car rental theft and damage up to $85,000 for rentals of up to 48 days, Purchase Protection for 90 days and a one year Extended Warranty.

Two things to plan around: the 2.5% foreign transaction fee on purchases made in a foreign currency, and the 21.99% purchase interest rate, which makes this a Card to pay in full every month. Like all American Express Canada Cards, no minimum income is published for this Card, and you can see whether you would be approved before you apply, with no impact on your credit score.
