Located on the northwest coast of Mauritius at Pointe aux Piments, Le Méridien Ile Maurice is a five-star hotel offering an idyllic setting for an unforgettable vacation. Nestled in the heart of lush vegetation and bordered by a sandy beach, the hotel invites you to relax and get away from it all.

Renovated in 2022, the establishment offers a wide range of spacious, elegantly decorated rooms and suites, all with breathtaking views of the ocean or tropical gardens. The hotel is ideal for families, couples and friends.

Le Méridien Ile Maurice – Booking

We booked this 6-night stay with our Marriott Bonvoy points to take advantage of the fifth night free. We did this during the holiday season between Christmas and New Year’s for a total of 150,000 points instead of $8,200.

Typical prices range from $500 to $600 a night, or even $1,200 during the holiday season.

Earning Marriott Bonvoy Points

The best way to earn Marriott Bonvoy points for free stays at over 8,000 hotels worldwide is to be a Marriott Bonvoy American Express* Cardholder (and/or Marriott Bonvoy Business American Express* Cardholder).

In addition to the great welcome bonus on both cards, you’ll earn 2 points per dollar on all purchases and 5 points per dollar at Marriott locations. And each year, you’ll earn a certificate for one free hotel night (35,000 point value) and 15 Elite nights toward your Marriott Bonvoy Elite status.

The Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card is the best credit card in Canada for free hotel nights.

New Cardmembers can earn up to 110,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points with the current offer:

  • Earn 80,000 points after you spend $6,000 on your Card in your first 6 months of Cardmembership.
  • Plus, earn 30,000 points by making a purchase during your 15th month of Cardmembership.

This offer ends on September 22, 2026. The annual fee is $120, and there is no annual fee on Additional Cards, so you can add a partner or a family member at no extra cost.

Every year after your first Card anniversary, you receive an Annual Free Night Award good for a redemption of up to 35,000 points at eligible hotels and resorts worldwide. At a valuation of 0.9 cents per Marriott Bonvoy point, that certificate is worth roughly $315, which on its own more than covers the $120 annual fee. That is the main reason to keep this Card year after year instead of cancelling it.

To get the most out of the certificate, aim it at a night that would otherwise price close to the 35,000 point ceiling.

The Card also gives you 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year and automatic Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Those credits count toward the next Elite tier, so you begin every year 15 nights ahead of where you would otherwise start.

You move up to Gold Elite status automatically when you reach $30,000 in purchases on the Card in a year, or when you combine 10 qualifying paid nights within one calendar year with the 15 Elite Night Credits from your Card.

Marriott Bonvoy points are generally valued at 0.9 cents each. On that basis, the 110,000 point welcome offer is worth about $990, and an Annual Free Night Award used at its full 35,000 point ceiling is worth about $315.

Marriott Bonvoy points pull their weight on free nights rather than on gift cards or merchandise, which is why this Card should be judged on the hotel stays it produces.

You earn 5 points per dollar on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels and 2 points per dollar on all other purchases. Points can be redeemed for free nights with no blackout dates at more than 7,000 hotels around the world.

The Card carries a solid package of coverages: $500,000 travel accident insurance, flight delay, baggage delay, lost or stolen baggage and hotel or motel burglary at $500 each, car rental theft and damage up to $85,000 for rentals of up to 48 days, Purchase Protection for 90 days and a one year Extended Warranty.

Two things to plan around: the 2.5% foreign transaction fee on purchases made in a foreign currency, and the 21.99% purchase interest rate, which makes this a Card to pay in full every month. Like all American Express Canada Cards, no minimum income is published for this Card, and you can see whether you would be approved before you apply, with no impact on your credit score.

Le Méridien Ile Maurice – Location

Le Méridien Ile Maurice is located in Pointe aux Piments in the northwest of the island. Its location is ideal for visiting Trou aux Biches, Grand Baie or the small village of Cap Malheureux and its emblematic red-roofed chapel. The famous Pamplemousse Garden is just 20 minutes away.

It’s an hour’s drive to the hotel from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (MRU) airport. Read our Air Mauritius review.

Le Méridien Ile Maurice – Check-in

Review : Le Méridien Ile Maurice | Marriott Bonvoy - Le Méridien Ile Maurice 32

We were greeted by hotel staff who quickly took charge of our luggage. We were comfortably seated in the lobby with a fruit juice and fresh towels while the receptionist completed the formalities.

Review : Le Méridien Ile Maurice | Marriott Bonvoy - Le Méridien Ile Maurice 1

The open-plan lobby overlooks the fountain, main pool and ocean. There is a regular evening concert featuring local singers.

Review : Le Méridien Ile Maurice | Marriott Bonvoy - Le Méridien Ile Maurice 57

In the lobby, you’ll find the Latitude 20 bar, ideal for a coffee or cocktail.

Le Méridien Ile Maurice – Rooms

We were upgraded to an Ocean Sky junior suite with two double beds even though we had booked a basic junior suite.

In the room, welcome gifts awaited us: hats, wine, fruit cups and macarons.

Review : Le Méridien Ile Maurice | Marriott Bonvoy - Le Méridien Ile Maurice 15

All rooms have a bathroom with shower and bathtub.

A lounge area with a sofa and armchair for relaxing after a day’s visit to the Pamplemousse Garden or a visit to the Land of 7 Colors in Chamarel. However, a lounge table for a drink, for example, is lacking.

There’s a desk and a cabinet with minibar and safe.

Finally, we really enjoyed spending time on the balcony enjoying the sunset.

Le Méridien Ile Maurice – Breakfast

Breakfast is served buffet-style at the Nomad from 6am to 10:30am. The rest of the time, this restaurant serves international cuisine (lunch and dinner). Breakfast can be enjoyed indoors or outdoors, with magnificent views of the ocean and pool. Outside, however, you need to be vigilant, because if you leave your plate unattended, birds will be on the lookout to bite into your plate.

Review : Le Méridien Ile Maurice | Marriott Bonvoy - Le Méridien Ile Maurice 33

The buffet offers a wide range of pastries, hot dishes and crudités.

Le Méridien Ile Maurice – Restaurants

Le Méridien Ile Maurice invites you on a gastronomic journey through its various restaurants. During our stay, we tried out a few of them:

  • The Kumin: authentic Indian restaurant with tandoori specialties and tasty curries, open for dinner only.
Review : Le Méridien Ile Maurice | Marriott Bonvoy - Le Méridien Ile Maurice 23
  • The Paparazzi: Italian restaurant just before the adult area.
  • The Zoli Mamzel: Restaurant serving grilled meats and Mauritian fusion cuisine.

Overall, the food is tasty and prices are not prohibitive for hotel restaurants. However, if you have a car, you can find restaurants at much more affordable prices.

Le Méridien Ile Maurice – Swimming pool

Review : Le Méridien Ile Maurice | Marriott Bonvoy - Le Méridien Ile Maurice 65

There are three large swimming pools: the first is just below the main breakfast restaurant, surrounded by numerous lounge chairs. There’s also a very relaxing area with cabanas.

A second swimming pool is located at the foot of a second block of rooms. Aquatic activities such as aquagym are offered here.

Review : Le Méridien Ile Maurice | Marriott Bonvoy - Le Méridien Ile Maurice 45

Finally, a third pool is located in the exclusive Nirvana wing, an area of the hotel reserved exclusively for adults.

Le Méridien Ile Maurice – My overall impression

Overall, we had a very pleasant stay at Le Méridien Ile Maurice over the holiday season. The hotel has been freshly renovated and now offers an exclusively adults-only area, which we appreciated. This hotel offers activities and facilities for families with children, couples and friends alike.

We were pleasantly surprised by the beauty and duration of the fireworks on December 31. This hotel offers great value for Marriott Bonvoy points, we will definitely return.
