Review: Four Points by Sheraton Izmir | Marriott Bonvoy

During my previous visit to Izmir, I had stayed at the Izmir Marriott Hotel. For this new leg of the trip, I wanted to discover one of the chain’s other two hotels, and the Four Points by Sheraton Izmir ultimately stood out, thanks to its excellent points rate.

I managed to get five nights in a standard room with a balcony for only 42,500 Marriott points, an estimated value of $382 according to Milesopedia. In comparison, the cash price was $218 per night, a significant savings!

When I booked in January 2025, the same stay cost 50,000 points. However, I made it a habit to check the Marriott app each week, and it paid off: the points rates eventually dropped, allowing me to save even more.
A quick tip: book early and check regularly, as it’s possible to adjust your reservation to benefit from a better points rate.

Arrival

Location

The Four Points by Sheraton Izmir is located in the Konak district, the largest area in Izmir, which spans nearly 24 km and includes most of the city’s main attractions and activities. The 110-room hotel occupies the first floors of the Mistral Tower, one of Izmir’s most iconic and ambitious real estate projects, consisting of two modern skyscrapers combining residences, offices, and shops.

The hotel is well connected by public transit: To the airport: The İZBAN train line (the station is about an 11-minute walk away). Please note: payment is only accepted with the Izmir public transit card (Izmirim Kart) and not with a credit card, unlike other city transportation options. The trip takes about one hour. To downtown: The nearest metro station is about a 13-minute walk away.

Check-In and Lobby

The hotel staff provided a warm and professional welcome. After the usual formalities, I was presented with my Platinum status benefits: a choice between 500 welcome points or free breakfast for two people throughout the stay.

A pleasant surprise: I was upgraded to a one-bedroom Junior Suite with a king bed, sea view, corner room, and balcony. The value of this suite for five nights was $1,896.52, so this upgrade was particularly appreciated.

Please note: this is one of the few hotels in Türkiye where there is no security check (X-ray scan) required to enter the lobby. This is likely due to the small size of the lobby, which consists only of a reception desk and a small lounge area with two sofas, a table, and a shelf with a few books.

The convenience corner is quite modest, with just two or three shelves stocked with snacks, located right next to the front desk.

Fortunately, adjacent to the lobby, there is a Starbucks, which makes up for it with a more welcoming space featuring several tables, chairs, and sofas where you can relax and enjoy your time. It is also here that the hotel graciously offers Turkish tea, a simple but very effective gesture.

Room

Located on the 7th floor, the Junior Suite seemed a bit small to fully deserve that designation.

You enter directly into a small vestibule where there is a storage closet. It is well-equipped: a safe (spacious enough to hold a 17″ laptop), shelves, hangers, two bathrobes, as well as an iron and ironing board.

To the left of the entrance, you’ll find the bathroom, accessible through a sliding door that does not lock, which can be inconvenient if you’re travelling with others. The bathroom is compact but functional, featuring a pleasant rainfall shower and decor that matches the rest of the room. However, some amenities could use an upgrade, especially the hairdryer, which is outdated and not very effective.

In the bedroom area, you’ll find: a work desk, an armchair with a table, a storage unit that includes a mini-fridge and also serves as a stand for the TV, as well as a king bed. Interestingly, the layout suggests that the room was originally designed to accommodate two beds: the headboards and nightstands are quite far from the central bed.

As for decor, it’s simple and basic: beige dominates, both on the walls and the carpet, enhanced with a few wooden touches.

The true asset of this suite remains its immense balcony, which wraps around the corner room. It offers dual views of the city and a portion of the sea. Furnished with four armchairs, a table, and two lounge chairs, it provides a very pleasant outdoor space. Note: smoking is prohibited in the room, but allowed on the balcony.

As soon as I settled into the room, an employee brought me: two muffins and two Elmalı Pasta (typically Turkish apple turnovers). A thoughtful gesture. Another noteworthy point: when you ask for one or two extra bottles of water, the staff doesn’t hesitate to deliver five or six at once!

Restaurants

Smyrna Restaurant

Located near the lobby, it is the hotel’s only restaurant. It opens as early as 6:30 a.m. for breakfast, served buffet-style, and remains open until 11:00 p.m. for other meals throughout the day.

Breakfast is varied and generous, with an assortment of hot and cold dishes, cheeses, cold cuts, olives, tomatoes, and other essentials of a typical Turkish breakfast. The hot dishes change almost daily, which provides a good variety. Here again, the staff is attentive and caring, which contributes to a pleasant experience.

Lobby Bar/Starbucks

The hotel bar and Starbucks are one and the same. The staff can prepare an Americano for you or serve you an Efes beer. The space is welcoming, furnished with sofas and a television, along with tables and chairs. This area is also ideal for remote work or catching up on your travel blog.

Other Services

Fitness Center

Located on the 10th floor, the center is equipped with stationary bikes, treadmills, weights, and dumbbells. Open 24/7, it also has a balcony offering a beautiful view of the city, perfect for getting some fresh air after a workout. Towels and water are available at all times.

Meeting Rooms

The hotel offers five meeting rooms, all well-equipped with audiovisual infrastructure, suitable for business meetings or professional events.

Around the Hotel

The immediate surroundings of the Four Points by Sheraton Izmir are mainly made up of restaurants for every budget, thanks to the food fair that surrounds the Mistral Towers. Just opposite the hotel, there’s a small park, ideal for a short stroll, as well as a taxi stand nearby.

To reach Izmir’s main tourist attractions, however, it is necessary to use public transport.

Overall Impression

My stay at the Four Points by Sheraton Izmir was overall very positive. Marriott status recognition, attentive staff, and excellent points value are real assets.

The hotel makes up for its slightly off-centre location with excellent access to public transit and its integration in the heart of the Mistral Towers.

The Junior Suite, while comfortable and featuring an exceptional balcony, would benefit from some updates, especially when it comes to certain aging amenities. Furthermore, the absence of a pool or spa is a drawback for a hotel of this category, especially in a Mediterranean city like Izmir. Nevertheless, it’s an excellent 4-star hotel, offering meticulous service.

Overall, I recommend the Four Points by Sheraton Izmir. It’s a safe and efficient choice for staying in this wonderful city.
