Because I found a ridiculously cheap flight from Paris to Montreal, I decided to end my two months of remote work in Europe and Morocco by visiting the City of Light. I opted for the Moxy Paris Bastille before ending my trip at the Moxy Paris Charles De Gaulle Airport, and I was not disappointed with my choice.

Moxy Paris Bastille – Reservation

My reservation at the Moxy Paris Bastille was paid in cash at an average cost of 173 euros per night, or 250 CAD. Choosing to pay in cash allowed me to take advantage of a Marriott Bonvoy promotion and get up to 4,000 bonus points for my stay.

If you prefer to pay for your night in points, rates are around 44,000 points per night year round.

The Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card is the best credit card in Canada for free hotel nights.

New Cardmembers can earn up to 110,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points with the current offer:

  • Earn 80,000 points after you spend $6,000 on your Card in your first 6 months of Cardmembership.
  • Plus, earn 30,000 points by making a purchase during your 15th month of Cardmembership.

This offer ends on September 22, 2026. The annual fee is $120, and there is no annual fee on Additional Cards, so you can add a partner or a family member at no extra cost.

Every year after your first Card anniversary, you receive an Annual Free Night Award good for a redemption of up to 35,000 points at eligible hotels and resorts worldwide. At a valuation of 0.9 cents per Marriott Bonvoy point, that certificate is worth roughly $315, which on its own more than covers the $120 annual fee. That is the main reason to keep this Card year after year instead of cancelling it.

To get the most out of the certificate, aim it at a night that would otherwise price close to the 35,000 point ceiling.

The Card also gives you 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year and automatic Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Those credits count toward the next Elite tier, so you begin every year 15 nights ahead of where you would otherwise start.

You move up to Gold Elite status automatically when you reach $30,000 in purchases on the Card in a year, or when you combine 10 qualifying paid nights within one calendar year with the 15 Elite Night Credits from your Card.

Marriott Bonvoy points are generally valued at 0.9 cents each. On that basis, the 110,000 point welcome offer is worth about $990, and an Annual Free Night Award used at its full 35,000 point ceiling is worth about $315.

Marriott Bonvoy points pull their weight on free nights rather than on gift cards or merchandise, which is why this Card should be judged on the hotel stays it produces.

You earn 5 points per dollar on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels and 2 points per dollar on all other purchases. Points can be redeemed for free nights with no blackout dates at more than 7,000 hotels around the world.

The Card carries a solid package of coverages: $500,000 travel accident insurance, flight delay, baggage delay, lost or stolen baggage and hotel or motel burglary at $500 each, car rental theft and damage up to $85,000 for rentals of up to 48 days, Purchase Protection for 90 days and a one year Extended Warranty.

Two things to plan around: the 2.5% foreign transaction fee on purchases made in a foreign currency, and the 21.99% purchase interest rate, which makes this a Card to pay in full every month. Like all American Express Canada Cards, no minimum income is published for this Card, and you can see whether you would be approved before you apply, with no impact on your credit score.

Moxy Paris Bastille – Location

As its name suggests, the Moxy Paris Bastille is located in the Bastille district, a neighbourhood located at the intersection of the 4th, 11th and 12th arrondissements. While the price of a room at this hotel may seem a little expensive at first, it is quickly apparent that its prime location is worth it.

Review : Moxy Paris Bastille | Marriott Bonvoy - Marriott-21

By staying at this hotel, you are only a few minutes walk from the metro and can easily get to the city’s major attractions (Eiffel Tower, Montmartre, Louvre Museum and more) in less than 30 minutes by public transportation.

Moxy Paris Bastille – Check-in

True to the Moxy brand, the lobby or first floor is open plan and features both the reception and bar, lounge, coworking and breakfast dining areas.

The space is very inviting to spend time in after long days walking the streets of Paris.

Review : Moxy Paris Bastille | Marriott Bonvoy - Marriott-36

I arrived at the Moxy Paris Bastille before check-in time but was still able to get a room ahead of time, although I was advised that it would not be on the top floor as my preferences indicated. I was also offered a coupon for a welcome cocktail to be used at my convenience, a tradition in Moxy hotels (which I curiously did not receive in Lisbon).

After asking about breakfast (included in my reservation), the staff informed me that there was no gym in the hotel, but that a partnership with a local fitness center allowed me to access it for 9 euros per day.

Review : Moxy Paris Bastille | Marriott Bonvoy - Marriott-24

Umbrellas are available for hotel guests, which was very useful in the middle of November.

Moxy Paris Bastille – Room

My room, with a queen-sized bed and a smart flat-screen TV, was very compact, but that’s to be expected for a Moxy brand hotel in the heart of Paris.

Review : Moxy Paris Bastille | Marriott Bonvoy - Marriott-01

It was still very well laid out to maximize space, as you can see. In the bathroom, a dryer and slippers were provided as well as Musk brand toiletries.

Moxy Paris Bastille – Breakfast

The breakfast at the Moxy Paris Bastille is served as a buffet and offers everything you need to start a day of sightseeing in the City of Light, or in remote work mode as it was the case for me.

Review : Moxy Paris Bastille | Marriott Bonvoy - Marriott-20

They served pastries and bread, cold cuts and cheeses, cereals, fruits and yogurts as well as a hot buffet with eggs, sausages and pancakes. There was something for everyone.

Moxy Paris Bastille – Other services

Moxy Paris Bastille – Coworking space

Moxy Paris Bastille offers an open-plan coworking space with fast Wi-Fi. I was surprised to see several Parisian (or non-hotel) workers using it, then I saw that this space could be used for remote work for 25 euros per day.

As someone who loves to travel and work in coworking spaces, I really liked this one. However, I did not see any booth or separate room to take calls.

Moxy Paris Bastille – Common areas

With its eclectic decor and lounge areas, the first floor of the Moxy is a large and inviting common area. It feels like being in a trendy cafe and at any time of the day you can sit down for a coffee, read a book or just take a break from the city action.

In addition, the hotel seems to organize happy hours with DJ on Thursdays.

Moxy Paris Bastille – Around the hotel

The area where the Moxy Paris Bastille is located is certainly one of the main attractions of the hotel. While walking around, you will discover a lot of nice little restaurants and bars as well as a nice neighborhood life; a small local market with a lot of kiosks was taking place the weekend of my stay.

Review : Moxy Paris Bastille | Marriott Bonvoy - Marriott-22

Discovering the neighborhood on foot and marveling at the architecture is a real pleasure and you can also discover the Le Marais district just next door, which is full of boutiques, galleries and trendy restaurants. The Seine is also within walking distance and you will pass by the Place de la Bastille, symbolic place of the French Revolution.

In short, staying at the Moxy Paris Bastille will definitely help you maximize your time exploring the beauty of Paris.

Moxy Paris Bastille – My general impression

With its ideal location and open concept, I greatly enjoyed my stay at the Moxy Paris Bastille; I was able to work for a few days while enjoying the surroundings and discovering the city. While the hotel seems to have been designed for young professionals, couples or those traveling with friends, it can also be suitable for small families.
