We have just returned from a trip to Paris with our family during which we stayed at the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe hotel. Here is our feedback with many pictures.

Foreword

How we booked with our points in the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe hotel

We booked this hotel 3 weeks before our arrival. Since the hotel is classified as category 9 with Marriott Bonvoy, it cost 45,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night, or 135,000 points for 3 nights.

I earn points via my Marriott BonvoyTM American ExpressMD Card(and its generous sign-up bonus). So I instantly converted 45,000 SPG loyalty program starpoints into 135,000 Marriott Bonvoy points.

equivalence points 3 for 1 spg marriott
1 starpoint = 3 Marriott points !

Tip: if you book with your points and stay 4 nights at the same hotel, the fifth night is free (whether at Marriott Bonvoy or Marriott Bonvoy). So in my case, a 5-night stay would have cost 180,000 Marriott Bonvoy points instead of 225,000!

45,000 Marriott Bonvoy points / 15,000 starpoints per night is high, but it is within the average for the French capital. And knowing that the Canadian dollar is not in great shape against the Euro, using the points became an obvious choice. Judge for yourself:

Converted to Canadian dollars:

45,000 starpoints here saved me $2,000, bringing the value of 1 starpoint to 4.44 cents, well above our valuation of 2.7 cents.

This is a theoretical calculation: it is obvious that I would not have paid this price in money. But most of the hotels in the center of Paris were, over this period, between 200-300 CA$ per night.

Contact with the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe hotel before arrival

We had taken care to contact the reception and the concierge by email to make sure:

  • that the Gold status would be well recognized in the hotel (especially for breakfasts)
  • that an upgrade to a family room could be considered
  • that a babysitting service would be available

The answers were always quick and clear. The concierge offered us 2 babysitting services, and we were very satisfied. Well done!

Marriott Gold Status Recognition for the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe Hotel

Being a Gold member of Marriott Bonvoy (obtained through my Gold status at Marriott Bonvoy, itself obtained through American Express Platinum Card or the SME Platinum card from American Express), this status is well recognized by the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe since we were entitled to:

  • Early arrival (check-in at noon)
  • Late departure (our departure could have been done at 3pm)
  • Upgrade (from a basic room with 1 double bed to a family room with 2 queen beds)
  • Free breakfast

In Paris, it is difficult to find hotels offering 2 queen size beds as it is often the case in North America. At best, you can get 2 single beds, not enough to accommodate a family of 2 adults and 2 children! In addition, most hotel rooms only allow one baby bed OR one extra bed. Only the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe hotel offered us the possibility of upgrading to a “family” room. Also, the complimentary breakfasts are a real saving, especially since the buffet was particularly complete as you will see below.

The Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe Hotel: a luxury hotel in the heart of Paris

The hotel’s location is perfect for exploring Paris. A metro station (Ternes) is a few meters away. And you are within walking distance of the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Élysées or the Parc Monceau. Moreover, if you wish to store, you will find your happiness on the Avenue des Ternes.

Even though the hotel is located on a large boulevard overlooking the Arc de Triomphe, the rooms are quiet. We had hesitated with the Renaissance Paris Vendôme, even more central, but the rooms in the latter seemed much smaller.

Arrival at the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe hotel

At the foot of the hotel are several stores as well as the entrance to the Salle Wagram (concert hall).

A check-in desk is reserved for “Elite” members – Marriott status. When we arrived around 12:00, our room was ready but had not been inspected. During this process, which took 10-15 minutes, the front desk offered us refreshments at the bar… as well as hot chocolate and games to keep our daughter waiting. Nice attention!

After about 10 minutes, the front desk gave us our keys, confirming the upgrade:

Both elevators are “colored”.

The corridors leading to the rooms are rather sober.

Hotel rooms in Paris are generally small. This one was a pretty good size, above average anyway. We did not feel cramped.

The bathroom

Equipped with a bathtub-shower, the bathroom was also a good size for Paris.

Breakfast

With Marriott Gold status, we were entitled to the breakfast buffet each morning and we were not disappointed! Breakfast is served in the restaurant (the hotel does not have a private room for this purpose).

You can ask to be served a hot drink, or you can serve yourself directly from the machine provided for this purpose.

As you can imagine with these pictures: it’s hard to be disappointed by this type of buffet! All the products offered from salty to sweet are varied and of quality. Being Marriott Gold allows us to save about 30 euros per person per day, which is not negligible. In addition, child seats were available.

The gym

I must confess: I did not use the gym. On the other hand, I went to make you some pictures! This one is pretty well supplied! In addition, a mini bar offers free Evian water and revitalizing drinks.

Conclusion of our stay at the Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe

The Renaissance Paris Arc de Triomphe is an excellent choice for a stay in the heart of the action in the French capital. The 15,000 starpoints / 45,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night are well invested by being used here, especially for those with Marriott Gold status.

These 15,000 starpoints can be earned with the American Express Marriott Bonvoy card (or its small business version also available to individuals) or by converting 30,000 American Express Membership Rewards points from one of the 4 Membership Rewards cards.

Marriott Gold status is achieved with the American Express Platinum card (or its small business version also available to individuals).
