China Airlines: flights, baggage and points from Canada

China Airlines connects Vancouver with Taipei and offers onward journeys across Asia. The Taiwanese airline is separate from Air China. Its loyalty program is Dynasty Flyer; eligible flights can also be booked with Flying Blue miles.
The airline’s Canadian website sells Vancouver–Taipei flights. The Canadian airport is YVR and the arrival airport is Taipei Taoyuan, code TPE. Searches from other Canadian cities may add a partner-operated flight before Vancouver.
For a departure from Montréal or Toronto, read the operating carrier for each sector. It identifies who runs the Canadian flight and who flies across the Pacific. A ticket sold from those cities does not establish a China Airlines nonstop service there.
Our Vancouver lounge guide covers the airport wait. The EVA Air guide describes another airline serving Taiwan. Our EVA Air Toronto–Taipei review is an EVA experience, not a review of China Airlines.
China Airlines’ A350-900 documentation distinguishes Economy, Premium Economy, and Premium Business. The A350 specification sheet describes a fully flat seat and direct aisle access in Premium Business. Premium Economy has its own seat and is not Business Class.
The airline’s cabin presentation covers several aircraft. Open the model and seat map assigned to your departure because equipment can vary. A sector beyond Taipei may have a different cabin from the transpacific flight.
The China Airlines baggage chart groups Canada with its long-haul routes. It lists:
Total dimensions per piece must remain within 158 cm. An additional or overweight bag follows separate pricing.
The page also flags certain journeys beginning with Air Canada: its allowance and excess baggage rules may apply across the ticket. Do not copy the allowance for a standalone Vancouver–Taipei ticket onto an itinerary that starts with a domestic Air Canada flight.
The cabin baggage rules distinguish bags stored overhead from small items under the seat. Keep documents and valuables accessible in case the main cabin bag needs to be checked.
At check-in, read the destination printed on the baggage receipt. The transfer instructions ask passengers to check this information and retain their onward flight documents. With separate tickets, confirm baggage handling before proceeding to security.
Flying Blue miles can book eligible flights marketed and operated by China Airlines. This uses the inventory released to the program rather than every seat available for cash on the airline’s website.
Sign in to Flying Blue, search Vancouver–Taipei with miles, and select your cabin and actual passenger count. For travel beyond Taiwan, also search the final destination to see the complete award price. Record both the mileage total and the remaining taxes and fees.
Our Flying Blue page covers the program. In Canada, the American Express partner directory includes Flying Blue. Membership Rewards points earned with the American Express Cobalt® Card can follow that route under the transfer conditions. They are not being sent directly to Dynasty Flyer.
A Flying Blue award and a paid ticket reduced by a rewards credit are different transactions. With the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card, Scene+ points can reduce an eligible travel purchase. It remains a paid ticket; the points do not become Dynasty Flyer miles.
Use the fare for the same itinerary, required bags, and cancellation conditions when assessing the two options. Our points-or-cash calculator puts the cash fare alongside the miles required and the remaining payment.
Our best credit cards guide lists card fees and features. Follow our newsletter for airline and loyalty program developments.
