To the point Here is my report on the Moxy Lyon Airport, Marriott hotel, located at Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport in France.

Last December, while returning from a trip to the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, I spent two nights at the Moxy Lyon Airport.

Location

This place enjoys a very convenient location, as it is the only one located only 5 minutes from all the airport’s boarding areas, but also from the TGV station.

Part of the Marriott chain, the Moxy Lyon opened in 2021. It offers soundproofed rooms, bay windows, and several amenities, including a lively, modern bar and restaurant. The decoration at the hotel’s entrance, elevators and floors will surely please movie lovers.

The rooms

The 123 rooms of the hotel are decorated with modernity and character. I found them to be a very functional space. My Moxy room with views of the slopes, a little larger than the other rooms, was spacious, as was my bathroom.

All rooms have 127-cm flat-screen TVs, modern furnishings and free high-speed Wi-Fi.

The Moxy Lyon Airport offers 5 types of rooms:

  • Moxy room with Queen size bed
  • Moxy room with two single beds
  • Moxy Room with runway views (1 Queen bed, runway view)
  • Moxy Biggy Room (Larger room, 1 Queen bed)

Hotel services

Facilities and amenities

The Moxy Lyon hotel is located in Terminal 2 of Lyon Saint-Exupery airport, a few steps from the boarding gates.

I particularly liked the elegant lobby with its modern spaces for relaxing or working. When I visited, they offered complimentary flavoured tea at all day hours.

The bar offers 24/7 food and beverage service and a selection of local wines and beers. The hotel’s Plug & Meet offer allows you to organize connected meetings as needed. The spaces have modern ergonomic seating, writing walls, and 142cm televisions to display presentations as needed.

This hotel offers the following facilities and services:

  • Connected meeting room for up to 12 people
  • Small training room with view on the planes
  • Ironing room
  • Friendly restaurant-bar
  • Free Wifi

In addition, the hotel accepts pets under 15kg for a fee of 25 euros per stay.

Restaurants

Expect to eat simple dishes. At the time of my visit, the food (on the somewhat limited menu) was prepared or reheated at the bar. On the other hand, I did enjoy the buffet-style breakfast, which was quite extensive, even offering gluten-free bread options. There is also a counter where drinks and snacks can be purchased anytime.

If you have drinks at your hotel’s bars and restaurants, don’t forget to charge these expenses to your room bill, earning up to 17.5 points per dollar based on your Marriott Bonvoy status!

When you check out, pay with your Marriott Bonvoy® Amex®* card to earn 5 points per dollar!

My general impression of the hotel

The Moxy Lyon Airport is a simple and modern hotel, convenient when transiting through Lyon before or after a flight or TGV.

From some of the rooms, the view of the planes taking off is impressive, yet the rooms are very well soundproofed. Remote workers will appreciate its modern work spaces.
Thanks to the Rhône Express, you can reach Lyon in about 30 minutes.

Getting to Lyon and other destinations

Within walking distance of terminals 1 and 2, the Rhônexpress streetcar links the airport to downtown Lyon in less than 30 minutes. It is the fastest way to reach the center.

The SNCF station also allows you a fast connection to 29 cities linked daily, like Paris, Grenoble, and Marseille in France, Turin and Milan in Italy, thanks to OUIGO and TGV trains.

In addition, Lyon airport is served by regular shuttle buses 365 days a year to the cities of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and by long-distance bus lines.

What to visit in Lyon?

  • The Fourvière hill and its basilica
  • Lugdunum, the ancient site of Fourvière
  • The Vieux-Lyon, medieval and Renaissance district, with its traboules and the Saint-Jean cathedral
  • The Palace of Justice with its Greek temple-like façade and 24 columns
  • The Place des Célestins and its Italian-style theater
  • The chic boutiques of the Carré d’Or
  • The Place des Jacobins
  • The Palais de la Bourse
  • The Opera House, with its redesigned dome, facing the City Hall
  • Les Halles Bocuse
  • The Museum of Confluences

A good tip: to make the most of your visit to Lyon, stop by the Pavillon du Tourisme, Place Bellecour, to ask for a map and obtain a Lyon City Card. This card gives you access to 23 museums and unlimited access to the entire TCL network (Metro, Tramway, Bus and Funicular) for 24 hours (1-day card), 48 hours (2-day card), 72 hours (3-day card) and 96 hours (4-day card). Otherwise, it is possible to book guided tours on-site.
