During my recent stay in France, on the French Riviera, I had the opportunity to try the JW Marriott Cannes hotel. Here is my feedback with many pictures.
How I booked a night at the JW Marriott Cannes
I booked this hotel the day before our arrival, as our stay in Cannes was not initially planned. The price of hotels, in the middle of July, was exorbitant, especially since the Euro-Dollar exchange rate is really unfavorable for Canadians! This is a perfect opportunity to use points!
The JW Marriott Cannes is rated 9 by Marriott Bonvoy. A night costs 45,000 Marriott Bonvoy points (or 15,000 SPG starpoints).
The cheapest public rate for the night we spent there was 459 euros or 665$CAD! We estimate the value of Marriott Bonvoy points to be 0.8 cents. Here I was able to get 1.5 cents out of it, which is a great value!
To book this hotel I instantly converted 15,000 starpoints from my Marriott Bonvoy account…..
in 45,000 Marriott Bonvoy points… and booked the room immediately.
Recognition of the Marriott Gold status by the JW Marriott Cannes
Being a Gold member of Marriott Bonvoy (obtained through my Gold status at Marriott Bonvoy, itself obtained through the American Express Platinum Card or the American Express Small Business Platinum Card), this status is well recognized by the JW Marriott Cannes since we were entitled:
- Early arrival (check-in at noon)
- Late departure (departure at 3pm)
- Upgrade (from a basic city view room to a partial sea view room)
- Free breakfast
The JW Marriott Cannes – a luxury hotel on the Croisette
Cannes is the international city known for the Cinema thanks to its festival. The JW Marriott Cannes uses symbols such as the Palme d’Or and numerous photos that decorate the hotel’s corridors and each of the rooms.

The Lobby
Within the hotel is a casino.

The lobby is very bright and has a majestic chandelier.

There is plenty of seating available.

An office area with 2 computers and printers overlooks the lobby.

Few floors in this hotel designed in a circular way.

The room with partial sea view
The room is made up of a King bed. There is enough space to accommodate a cot by setting aside the seats and coffee table.

The decor is like Cannes: Cinema!

A desk faces the bed and the television built into the wall.

The chairs are comfortable according to Alexandra!

A chest of drawers is located right next to the bed, as is a mini bar and coffee maker. Disappointment: no nespresso machine in this room unlike others in higher categories.

The hallway in which the closet is located and large mirrors giving an impression of space.

Bathrobes, slippers, iron are located in the hall closet.

The view is not direct on the sea from the room. To see it, you have to go to the small balcony next to it.

That’s a change from the dreary weather in Quebec in this month of July 2017!

The bathroom
The bathroom has a bathtub-shower with mosaic. On the pictures, it gives an “old fashioned” look but not in real life!

Even the toilet accessories remind us that we are in Cannes!

The roof terrace with pool
To relax, go to the top floor with the rooftop pool and the huge terrace. Don’t plan to swim in the pool, it will only serve to refresh you. The hotel obviously preferred to give more space to the terrace.

Here is an impressive 180 degree view of the Croisette from the terrace!

There is a bar on the terrace and the champagne is featured!

Breakfast
It is possible to have breakfast inside or on the outdoor terrace right next to the Croisette.

This one was particularly popular, and with 2 small children (and 30 degree heat) we preferred to stay inside.

The buffet is particularly complete. This is where we appreciate the Marriott Gold status offered by our American Express Platinum card! The salty part:

And the sweet part:

At the table, the waiters bring us hot drinks on demand (coffee, cappucino, latté, tea…).
The gym
The gym is rather small, but not very crowded and with good quality equipment.

Bottom line
The JW Marriott Cannes is an excellent choice for a stay in the heart of the action on the Croisette. The 45,000 Marriott Bonvoy points are well invested by being used here, especially for those with Marriott Gold status.
These points can be earned with the American Express Marriott Bonvoy card (or its small business version, also available to individuals) or by converting American Express Membership Rewards points from one of the 6 Membership Rewards cards.
Marriott Gold status is achieved with the American Express Platinum card (or its small business version also available to individuals).
