Review : Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud, Paris (France) | Marriott Bonvoy

As part of a recent trip to Paris to meet Milesopedia partners, I had the opportunity to stay at the Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud, a 4-star hotel located in Rueil-Malmaison, near Paris.

This Renaissance hotel had actually been on my list for some time. Why? Because it’s one of the only Marriott hotels in the Paris region to benefit from a truly green setting. Located between the Bois de Boulogne and the Forêt domaniale de La Malmaison, the hotel literally borders the Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud.

For this business trip, my aim was to take advantage of the calm offered by this hotel to recharge my batteries after a busy day in the French capital.

Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud – Location

The Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud is located in the hills above Saint-Cloud, on the border with Rueil-Malmaison and Suresnes.

With free indoor parking, it’s a 15-minute drive from Porte Maillot. The hotel also has a fleet of electric cars available for hire, for exploring Paris and the surrounding area. You can also opt for scooters and bicycles, which are also electric.

If you opt for public transport, you’ll need to walk 5-15 minutes to reach a service line. As a reference, it will take you around an hour to get to the Eiffel Tower, including the time it takes to walk to a bus line that will take you to the RER or metro.

Several activities are offered to make your stay enjoyable, such as access to the 9-hole Paris Country Club golf course, the Hysope Paris Saint-Cloud Spa, an outdoor swimming pool and a fitness center.

It can also be a great place to hold an event, with its 540 square-meter meeting space bathed in natural light, featuring all the necessary equipment for your presentations or animations.

Please note that check-in starts at 3 p.m. and check-out is at noon.

The Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud offers 110 rooms and suites, some with balconies overlooking the Paris Country Club golf course or the Eiffel Tower.

The exterior architecture is reminiscent of a country club, while the interior stands in stark contrast to its modern, spacious layout, punctuated by a few works of art.

Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud – Our overall impression

While my stay in Paris was marked by numerous meetings with our partners, this place was just the thing for me to disconnect and recharge my batteries.

When booking this hotel, I decided to take advantage of an annual Marriott night certificate linked to my Marriott Bonvoy^MD American Express^MD* Card, which I topped up with points to cover the number required for my stay.

It’s worth noting that this hotel’s rates are really higher than the amount associated with a certificate. Perhaps it’s because the hotel is slightly outside Paris, or perhaps it’s because of its close relationship with the Paris Country Club.

When I arrived, I was immediately struck by the beauty and tranquility of the place. Noble, traditional and rustic, we feel soothed just by hearing the birds greet us.

Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud – Applying my status privileges

As I have Platinum Elite status, I took care to communicate in advance of my arrival via the chat function available on the Marriott app. Although I didn’t manage to get a suite upgrade, I did get a much larger room than the one I had originally booked. And even a little welcome gift! And what about the view 😀

My check-in was very straightforward, and it was clearly explained to me that I was entitled to a free breakfast, plus a welcome gift of 1,000 points.

Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud – My room

Located on the 3rd floor, my room (#320) was very spacious by French standards, with a bathroom and separate toilet that surprised me for a hotel in the Paris region.

In my room, I took full advantage of the great comfort offered by the king-size bed and armchair. The superb navy-lacquered desk, complete with multiple sockets, was also much appreciated, while, true to form, I absolutely had to recharge my laptop and my backup battery.

All the other features normally expected of this type of accommodation were present, including large cupboards for personal belongings, a safety box for valuables and a mini-fridge. My only downside is that I would have appreciated the presence of a coffee machine (e.g. Tassimo or Nespresso) when I normally need a few cups to get my day started.

In the bathroom, the presence of Tokyo Milk beauty products is always appreciated.

Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud – Impression of the premises

Once past reception and check-in, you discover a space that invites you to relax, particularly with its piano, which made a strong impression on me. Comprising three (3) floors and one (1) basement, the hotel features a Spa, a heated outdoor pool (open from May to September) and a restaurant. However, tired from my day of meetings, I only did a quick tour of the premises. I invite you to take a look at the photos I took during my stay.

If you’re feeling peckish, you can grab a bite to eat (Tuesday to Saturday) at Hampton’s Grill restaurant, whose atmosphere is strongly inspired by the seaside resort of the same name. Specializing in grilled dishes, this restaurant offers a menu featuring fresh seasonal produce, with a focus on barbecued or plancha-grilled meats and fish.

The hotel staff are very welcoming. In fact, over (breakfast), 2 employees told me the history of the premises, informing me that the owners originally designed the place in the former stables of the racecourse.

Speaking of the breakfast buffet, it’s a real treat! You’ll find superb products, well prepared and available in large quantities.

Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud – What to do in the area

One of my favorites in the region is the Château de Malmaison, which I visited a few years ago. Acquired in 1799 by Josephine Bonaparte, the wife of a certain Napoleon, from 1800 to 1802, this small château became, along with the Tuileries, the seat of government of France, where the ministers of the Consulate frequently met. It became a museum in 1905, and is now part of the network of national museums in France, which includes over 60 establishments.

On the way back to the hotel, don’t forget to stop off at the Forêt domaniale de La Malmaison, also acquired by Empress Josephine in 1800. It’s a peaceful place where walkers, cyclists and joggers rub shoulders.

To the south of the hotel, you can discover the magnificent national estate of Saint-Cloud, closely linked to the life of Philippe d’Orléans (1640-1701), Louis XIV’s younger brother. To accompany you on your visit, you can use the guided tour service or download the app (Android | Apple).

Are you a fan of the Impressionist movement? Take a stroll through the Parc des Impressionnistes, inspired by Monet’s gardens at Giverny. It’s an enchanting place where you can enjoy wisteria, lilacs and geraniums in full bloom. This is complemented by a water feature, a small gazebo and a natural wood frog.

Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud – My recommendation

Renaissance Paris Hippodrome de Saint-Cloud is a place dedicated to relaxation and enjoyment. During a stay in Paris, it might be a good idea to add this hotel to your list, in case you’re looking for a little peace and quiet after several days in Paris. The hotel’s proximity to the Bois de Boulogne and its peaceful setting make it a « country » stopover not far from the heart of Paris.
