Earn points
How to earn Starbucks Rewards stars?
With the Starbucks Rewards program, you can earn points, or rather « stars. » Since the March 2026 relaunch, your earning rate depends on your membership Level rather than your payment method:
| Level | Stars per dollar | Qualifying threshold (rolling 12 months) |
| Green | 1 | Base level, from sign-up |
| Gold | 1.5 | 500 stars earned |
| Reserve | 1.7 | 2,500 stars earned |
Your Level is reassessed on an ongoing rolling 12-month basis, rather than a fixed calendar year. Green Level stars expire 6 months after they’re earned (with a possible 1-month extension if you make a qualifying purchase that month), while Gold and Reserve stars don’t expire as long as you keep your status.

A monthly perk called Free Mod Mondays gives every member, regardless of Level, a free customization (up to $2 in value) on the priciest modifier in their order, on one designated Monday each month. Gold and Reserve members also get Double Star Days: at least 4 per year for Gold, and up to 10 per year for Reserve.
Redeem points

Frequently Asked Questions about the Starbucks Rewards program
Starbucks Rewards is the free loyalty program from the global coffee giant. Here are answers to the most common questions about earning stars, redeeming rewards, and unlocking exclusive member perks.
How do you sign up for Starbucks Rewards?
Sign-up is free and takes just a few minutes through the Starbucks app (iOS or Android) or at starbucks.ca. You provide an email address, create a password, and accept the program terms. To start earning stars, simply add a payment method (credit card, Starbucks gift card, or PayPal) to your account, or scan your member barcode at the register on every visit, whether in-store or at the drive-thru. Your account is active immediately after sign-up.
How many stars do you earn per dollar at Starbucks?
Since the program’s relaunch on March 10, 2026, your earning rate depends on your membership Level rather than your payment method: 1 star per dollar at Green, 1.5 stars per dollar at Gold, and 1.7 stars per dollar at Reserve. Your Level is determined by how many stars you’ve earned over the trailing 12 months (500 stars for Gold, 2,500 for Reserve). Stars are credited immediately and visible in the app after each qualifying transaction.
How many stars are needed to redeem a reward?
The program has used a 6-tier reward ladder since March 2026: 25 stars for a free customization (up to $1), 60 stars for $2 off any qualifying item, 100 stars for a brewed coffee or hot tea (up to $6), 200 stars for a handcrafted drink or hot breakfast (up to $10), 300 stars for a sandwich or packaged coffee (up to $16), and 400 stars for select merchandise or Reserve coffee (up to $20). You can choose when to redeem based on your balance and preferences.
What bonus perks do Starbucks Rewards members get?
All members get a free birthday treat, with a redemption window that varies by Level: the actual birthday only for Green, a 7-day window for Gold, and 30 days for Reserve. The monthly Free Mod Mondays perk gives a free customization (up to $2) on one designated Monday each month, regardless of Level. Gold and Reserve members also get Double Star Days (at least 4 per year for Gold, up to 10 per year for Reserve), announced in advance by email or in the app.
Do Starbucks stars expire?
It depends on your Level. At Green, stars expire 6 months after the month they’re earned (a qualifying purchase within that month can extend it by one more month). At Gold and Reserve, stars don’t expire as long as you keep your status. Any expiry date is visible in the « Rewards » section of the app. To avoid losing stars at the Green Level, plan your redemptions in advance and use the lower tiers (25 or 60 stars) to spend your balance regularly.
