China Eastern: flights, baggage and points from Canada

China Eastern connects Toronto with Shanghai. Toronto Pearson lists MU208 to Shanghai from Terminal 3. The airline operates Eastern Miles, while Flying Blue also lets members search for eligible reward flights released to that program.
The Toronto Pearson MU208 page confirms the Shanghai service. Gates and counters are operational details to verify on departure day. The airport’s terminal information does not replace the instructions in your own reservation.
Search exact dates through China Eastern’s Canadian booking service. For another Chinese city, include the final destination to see the offered connections. A Toronto–Shanghai fare does not automatically include an onward domestic flight or its services.
Our Toronto Pearson guide helps plan the airport visit. For lounges, check the terminal, departure zone, and your admission entitlement first. Credit-card access does not necessarily cover the lounge associated with the operating airline.
Shanghai’s airports include Pudong, code PVG, and Hongqiao, code SHA. Read the exact airport codes, particularly when continuing within China or to another country. The city name alone is insufficient to plan the connection.
An airport change requires ground travel and checking applicable formalities. It is different from a connection within the same terminal. Assess the time after any baggage collection and before the next flight’s check-in closes.
With separate tickets, ask about bag rechecking and keep both booking references. If staying in Shanghai, coordinate hotel and transport arrangements with the local arrival day, rather than only the departure date in Canada.
Check the cabins sold on the flight selected instead of relying on a general fleet description. Economy, Premium Economy, and Business are not available in identical configurations on every aircraft. The connecting seat may differ from the long-haul product.
Open the cabin map to locate suitable seats for everyone travelling. If selection is chargeable, check its cost for every sector and the conditions after a flight change. A more flexible Economy fare family is not Premium Economy.
When purchasing Business, examine the complete itinerary too. An offer may combine cabins between Canada and the final destination. The total paid does not prove every flight is in the cabin expected; read each sector’s detail.
The official allowance chart places Canada in a piece-system group. Within Economy it distinguishes:
It also lists two 23 kg pieces in Premium Economy and two 32 kg pieces in the relevant higher cabins. Combined dimensions per piece must not exceed 158 cm. Check the issued ticket, status benefits, and any routing exceptions.
A European chart or a Chinese domestic-flight rule may provide different limits. Do not substitute those for the allowance applicable to a Canadian ticket. If an onward ticket is bought separately, check its baggage: a Pacific crossing allowance is not automatically valid on another booking.
Check cabin-bag rules for the actual flights booked. Measure the case with its wheels and handles and review items needing particular permission. A generous hold allowance does not establish permission to take more belongings into the cabin.
For sports equipment, instruments, and other unusual pieces, read the corresponding conditions and confirm acceptance. The purchase price of an accessory says nothing about compatibility with an aircraft. Ensure the full itinerary accepts the required service before buying a restrictive airfare.
At check-in, verify baggage tags and retain the receipts. Ask where cases must be collected if continuing beyond Shanghai. With two reservations, present the onward flight details rather than assuming the second booking is automatically visible.
Eastern Miles is China Eastern’s own program. Read the booking-class and ticket conditions before crediting a journey. Two fares in the same cabin can have different earning eligibility.
Add the number for the chosen membership account and check the passenger name. Keep the e-ticket and boarding passes until flights have posted. For several travellers, verify accounts and booking references individually.
A reward balance and status-qualifying activity are not interchangeable. Read the specific benefit’s rules before relying on an upgrade, additional bag, or lounge admission. An award issued through another program follows that issuing program’s booking conditions.
The Flying Blue partner page describes using miles with China Eastern. Start a reward search for the desired dates, airports, cabin, and party size. Do not transfer points based only on a paid flight being available.
Check the operator of every sector and the complete additional payment. A connection or different cabin can change the result compared with the nonstop searched. If accepting mixed cabins, identify which cabin is used for the long-haul flight.
Our Flying Blue page explains that program. Flying Blue availability is not automatically the same as Eastern Miles inventory. Read mileage requirements, change conditions, and remaining payment in the program actually issuing the ticket.
The Canadian Membership Rewards directory includes Flying Blue. Membership Rewards earned with the American Express Cobalt® Card can be transferred to that partner under the applicable conditions. This route does not send those points directly to Eastern Miles.
For a paid ticket, Scene+ points earned with the Scotiabank Gold American Express Card can reduce an eligible travel expense. The fare retains its rules and the transaction does not create an Eastern Miles award.
Find a suitable flight and record its complete price first. If a Flying Blue reward exists, consider the remaining payment alongside the miles. For a travel statement credit, check the eligible transaction, balance, and program deadline.
Our points-or-cash calculator helps assess equivalent journeys with baggage. For two travellers, search two reward seats and a paid total for two people. One available reward does not guarantee the second traveller can book at the same price.
Include positioning flights to Toronto and any extra nights imposed by schedules. An attractive transpacific fare may be less practical if separate flights do not fit. The best credit cards guide presents Canadian options, costs, and conditions.
For other routes from Canada, our Air China guide and China Airlines guide cover Beijing and Taipei respectively. Distinguish the airports, operators, and loyalty programs when booking.
Suppose two people want to travel from Toronto to a city beyond Shanghai. Search the final destination for two passengers. If the offer puts the connecting flight in Business but Toronto–Shanghai in Economy, it should not be described as a long-haul Business journey.
Open the sector details before accepting the mileage price. Record the connecting airports and check whether PVG, SHA, or both appear. The cost of ground travel or an extra night belongs in the budget alongside the award’s additional payments.
For baggage, imagine each adult wants to check two suitcases. A Basic Economy fare confirming one piece does not meet that requirement without an addition. Check the extra-bag price for each traveller or another fare family that includes the pieces required. Calculate outbound, return, and any connecting tickets rather than considering only the Canadian departure.
When choosing a Flying Blue reward, search every needed seat before transferring Membership Rewards. Verify the receiving account and transfer conditions. The first seat found does not guarantee a second seat at the same price or even continued availability. Group arrangements need to remain workable until all tickets are issued.
If only one person can book an award and the other buys a paid ticket, compare the two reservations’ conditions separately. Confirm flights and cabins for both people and retain both booking references. Do not assume that services or changes on one reservation automatically carry over to the other.
Keep the e-ticket, reservation references, and seat or bag receipts together. Reopen the booking to verify travellers, cabins, and local dates. For a reward issued by a partner program, also retain the award receipt and the breakdown of additional payments.
If schedules change, recheck connection time and airport codes. A change to the Pacific sector can affect the next flight, airport collection, and a hotel night. Updating a personal calendar is not enough: those other reservations must be reviewed independently.
Where an intermediary issues a paid ticket, keep its reference and the airline reference if both are supplied. For an award, identify which program handles the booking. This helps avoid requesting a fare change through a channel that did not issue the ticket, or assuming that the operating carrier can change the mileage transaction itself.
For a bank-points statement credit, save the financial confirmation separately. It shows a credit against an eligible purchase, not the airline’s operational services. After any itinerary adjustment, confirm the flights, seats, baggage, and ground arrangements in their own records rather than relying solely on the points transaction.
