Air Algérie: flights, baggage and points from Canada

Air Algérie connects Montréal with Algiers. Air Algérie Plus lets members earn miles on eligible flights and use them for award tickets, upgrades, or baggage. From Canada, the fare selected and the allowance printed on the ticket determine what is included in the journey.
Air Algérie sells the Montréal–Algiers route. Search YUL and ALG when looking for this itinerary. If you need to continue to another Algerian city, search the final destination too: a Montréal–Algiers price does not automatically include a domestic connection.
Read the departure days and the timing of every sector. A nonstop journey and an itinerary involving an aircraft change require different planning. When someone is collecting you in Algiers, send the flight number and local arrival date, rather than just the date you leave Canada.
Our Montréal airport lounge guide explains lounge options by departure zone and access method. A credit card that provides access to selected lounges does not automatically admit you to every lounge in the airport.
Air Algérie’s fare families describe different change and refund conditions. The airline’s overall product catalogue includes several cabins and fare levels. Their appearance in that catalogue does not mean every combination is sold on the Montréal flight you select.
Choose the departure first, then open its rules. Record the fare-family name, cabin, possible change charge, and any difference in airfare needed for a new departure. A change that waives a service fee may still require you to pay a higher fare.
For Business Class, inspect the seat map attached to the selected flight. A fleet photograph does not necessarily show your seat. If the journey includes an Algerian domestic sector, the second aircraft may have a different cabin from the one crossing the Atlantic.
The airline’s published Canada grouping lists 2 bags up to 23 kg each in Economy and 3 bags up to 23 kg each in Business or First, subject to the ticket conditions. The checked-baggage rules set a 158 cm combined length, width, and height limit for a standard piece.
These limits apply to each suitcase. A two-piece allowance does not let you replace two 23 kg bags with one weighing 46 kg. Distribute heavier belongings before reaching check-in and include the case, wheels, cover, and attached accessories when weighing it.
For a connection beyond Algiers, read the allowance for the complete itinerary. With separate tickets, check the domestic flight’s rules and whether the bag must be collected. Excess-baggage costs can change the value of a lower airfare.
Air Algérie’s baggage information allows one cabin bag up to 10 kg, reduced to 5 kg on ATR aircraft. That exception matters when the journey continues after Algiers on a different type of aircraft.
Do not pack solely for the Montréal–Algiers sector if you have another flight that day. Check the next flight’s limits before choosing a rigid carry-on case. Keep belongings needed during the connection accessible if a bag has to go into the hold.
Sports equipment, pets, and other special items require separate checks. Their acceptance and pricing cannot be inferred from the allowance for an ordinary suitcase. Read the relevant service rules before purchasing a carrier or adding a special item to the booking.
Air Algérie Plus rewards eligible travel. Its earning information explains that credit depends on distance, travel class, and membership level. A Montréal–Algiers ticket price alone is therefore insufficient to calculate mileage earnings.
Add the membership number to the reservation and make sure the name matches the ticket. Keep the receipt and boarding passes until the activity has posted. On a journey involving several airlines, check each sector’s eligibility instead of applying one assumed earning percentage to the whole distance.
Separate the balance available for rewards from the activity used to qualify for status. Having an account and some miles does not guarantee an upgrade or an extra bag. Each benefit has conditions that should be checked before departure.
The Air Algérie award-ticket page describes options including one-way and return journeys. Booking depends on seats released for rewards. A seat still offered for cash does not establish that a mileage seat is available.
Prepare the cities, dates, number of travellers, and desired cabin before searching. Ask for the total miles and any remaining payments. For a group, check the number of seats before arranging spending to increase the account balance.
An upgrade first requires an eligible paid ticket. Before buying Economy with the intention of upgrading, check the booking class and the relevant award conditions. The difference between the cash prices of two cabins does not automatically equal the mileage cost of an upgrade.
A travel statement credit lets you buy a paid ticket and then reduce an eligible purchase. The Scotiabank Gold American Express Card earns Scene+ points. Applying them to travel follows the conditions of the rewards program and your account.
This approach does not require an Air Algérie Plus award seat. You do need to pay for the ticket and hold enough points for the credit requested. Check which transaction qualifies and the applicable claim period before relying on the reimbursement.
A statement credit does not alter the airfare’s conditions. A non-refundable purchase retains its restrictions after points are applied. A later change may still require a fare difference, even if rewards covered part of the original cost.
Use the same itinerary when comparing the options. Record the cash total including the bags and seats you need. For an Air Algérie Plus reward, consider the compulsory payments alongside the miles. For a bank-program credit, check the points needed against the actual eligible purchase.
Our points-or-cash calculator helps assess those amounts. The best credit cards guide brings together Canadian card fees and programs. The decision depends on your journey and existing balances, rather than one isolated cabin price.
If the dates are fixed, start with flights that work for every traveller. An award using fewer miles but requiring another night can increase spending at the destination. Add that accommodation, local transport, and baggage to the budget before issuing tickets.
Check each traveller’s name, date of birth, and contact details in the reservation. Review entry requirements for the documents actually being used and the countries on the itinerary. A connection or separately booked domestic flight may need different preparation from a straightforward YUL–ALG return.
At check-in, confirm the destination printed on the baggage tag and keep the receipt. For a flight beyond Algiers, ask where the bag must be collected and whether another formality is required. Keep both booking references handy when flights are on separate tickets.
For a trip to Morocco, our Royal Air Maroc guide describes that carrier and travel through Casablanca. For a stay in Tunisia, see the Tunisair guide. These guides concern other destinations: check the network and conditions for each journey.
Consider two adults in Economy on the same Montréal–Algiers flight, with the published two-piece 23 kg allowance confirmed on both tickets. The party has four permitted pieces, each subject to its own limit. Adding those allowances does not create a freely distributable 92 kg pool that can be packed into any number of cases.
If one bag exceeds 23 kg while another is much lighter, redistribute belongings before reaching check-in. The party’s combined weight does not establish compliance for each piece. Check dimensions too, especially when using a box, an expandable case, or an external protective cover.
Now add an onward flight purchased on a separate ticket from Algiers. Write down the permitted piece count on that reservation and the price of any services needed. If it includes only one piece for each person, resolve the difference before travelling. You might purchase additional allowance, select another suitable fare, or reduce luggage. The four bags permitted on the Canadian crossing do not automatically become four free bags on a separate ticket.
For a mileage booking, begin by searching two awards on the same departure. If only one seat appears, that seat’s price does not establish the cost of travel for both adults. Search alternatives for the entire party before moving or buying miles to complete one account. If you plan to mix one award with one paid ticket, check that both flights and cabins can be booked and understand that their conditions may differ.
A bank-points credit presents a different calculation. The price to consider is the paid purchase for the passenger concerned, including the services you intend to buy. Check how the transactions appear on the card account and how the program accepts credit requests. Do not assume that a baggage receipt issued separately is treated exactly like the original airfare without checking its eligibility.
Save the confirmations, fare conditions, and added-service receipts together. Confirm that paid seats and baggage are assigned to the correct travellers and travel dates. If an agency issued the reservation, identify which party handles ticket changes, and keep the agency reference as well as the airline’s own booking reference when both are supplied.
Before returning, reopen the airline booking and verify the schedule. If an itinerary changes, review accommodation, ground transport, and airport pickups connected with it. Keep the final flight information available offline, together with ticket numbers and the relevant reservation references.
At the airport, rely on the travel documents and operational instructions for that day. An example in this guide is a planning aid, not a replacement for the issued ticket. Where the reservation and a general webpage appear inconsistent, ask the issuer or airline to clarify the allowance and conditions for the actual journey before incurring extra costs.
