We had booked an Art Deco room for a two-night stay with our two children at the Prince de Galles Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris.

We were finally upgraded to the Macassar suite thanks to our Marriott Bonvoy status and the use of an upgrade certificate available with our Marriott Bonvoy Titanium status.

Rooms are available from 1,000 euros or 90,000 Marriott Bonvoy points per night.

With 116 rooms and 43 suites, the establishment has been welcoming travellers and celebrities since 1929 and will soon be celebrating its centenary! The Prince de Galles, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris offers the following room categories:

• Art Deco with a king-size or king-size bed,
• Art Deco Deluxe with two single beds, one king-size bed or one king-size bed, with or without balcony,
• One-bedroom Junior Mosaic Suite with two single beds or one king-size bed. A sofa bed is available, as is a balcony for some suites,
• One-bedroom Macassar Suite with king-size bed and sofa bed,
• Macassar Alma Suite with king-size bed, balcony and sofa bed,
• Golden Suite with king-size bed and balcony. It highlights French craftsmanship with touches of gold and black.
• Saphir Suite with king-size bed and balcony. It is decorated in beige and blue tones and offers a relaxing space with two furnished terraces.
• Suite Lalique is a 180m2 duplex with a terrace overlooking the Eiffel Tower and a king-size bed. Timeless, the iconic suite was designed in collaboration with Patrick Hellman and the French company Lalique, always in the spirit of showcasing art deco. The suite’s rich, glamorous decor combines gold, marble, and wood. Large windows overlook several symbols of the city of Paris and a staircase.

Some have access to a balcony, others to a terrace with a view of the rue George V, the roofs of Paris, the Eiffel Tower or the inner patio. Each room and suite features a 40″ flat-screen TV, multimedia system and wireless Internet access.

The Hotel Prince de Galles, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris is located on Avenue George V in Paris, in the heart of the Paris Golden Triangle. It boasts an ideal location, just a stone’s throw from the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe. The hotel is easily accessible by car, metro or foot from many of Paris’s major attractions.

The Prince de Galles’ neighbour, the Four Seasons George V, is next door.

The reception staff and the rest of the team greeted us very warmly and courteously. The lobby of the Prince de Galles, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris is not very large compared to what we’ve seen in other 5-star hotels abroad. However, this is Paris, and square feet are expensive.

This makes it a hotel on a human scale. You feel pampered in this exceptional place, where everything is magnificent. You enter through a gilded automatic revolving door. The lobby is convivial, with a central lounge featuring comfortable armchairs, a magnificent art deco chandelier and multiple small chandeliers on the walls.

A long, low bookcase completes the space, with vases of fresh flowers.

Two black elevators are available behind the buffet-library. To the right are the restaurants and patio, and to the left the staircase. Everything is perfectly arranged, from floor to ceiling. There are beautiful photographs from the 1920s, paintings by contemporary artists and modern pieces.

Check-in is available from 3 pm, and check-out is no later than midday. The darker reception counter is set back to the left of the entrance. Check-in was swift, with an introduction to the hotel’s services and a privileged tour of the premises.

A 24-hour concierge service is available for those wishing to obtain reservations (restaurant, tourist ticket, show), a babysitter, a chauffeur and many other services to make your stay even more exceptional.

The Macassar Suite is one of the most prestigious suites at the Prince de Galles Hotel, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris. It embodies luxury and elegance through its refined design and noble materials. I didn’t know what macassar wood was. It is an exotic, luxurious material with dark, contrasting veins. This wood is used for several of the hotel’s suites, which bear his name.

The atmosphere is warm and sophisticated, with touches of bronze and brass (fixtures, mirror frames, door handles), including the main bedroom door, which is a magnificent piece in its own right.

The Macassar suite is spacious, with a layout comprising a separate lounge with a balcony, a main bedroom with a terrace and a marble bathroom. The facilities are comfortable and elegant, perfect for relaxing or entertaining guests.

The master bedroom features a king-size bed with high-quality bedding, promising a restful night’s sleep. The bedroom decor continues the art deco theme, with macassar wood furniture and gold accents.

The marble bathroom features a freestanding bathtub and a shower fully tiled with Italian mosaic.

Double basins and elegant mirrors make it luxurious and warm.

However, on the practical side, a few improvements could be made: I liked the make-up table. The only regret is that the height of the mirror means that once seated, you can only see half of yourself when applying makeup or doing your hair. It would be practical to have a bathrobe hook at the shower exit and a soap holder in the center or on either side of the double basin.

The suite offers access to a large, pleasant outdoor terrace overlooking the rooftops of Paris.

The suite has the latest technology, including a flat-screen TV, high-speed Wi-Fi and air conditioning. Likewise, a sound system lets you listen to your favourite music anywhere. Finally, I appreciated the fine Italian quality of the bed and bath linens from Frette, a Luxury Collection partner brand (you can buy these accessories at the Marriott Bonvoy Luxury Collection boutique).

An update on service. The staff pampered us throughout our stay. The children even had their own bathrobe in their size. Our daughter, celebrating her birthday shortly afterwards, received balloons in her room. And what can we say about the lovely welcome gift we were given on arrival in the room, with personalized messages for the children. These personal touches made all the difference.

Breakfast is served at the Michelin-starred Akira Back restaurant from 7:00 to 10:30 a.m. on weekdays and from 7:00 to 11:00 a.m. on weekends. The room is decorated in the hotel’s art deco style, with brass, marble, floor-to-ceiling curtains and antique Italian-style floor tiles.

A beautiful bar with a magnificent hanging chandelier takes pride of place at the back of the room. Paintings on the ceiling, midnight-blue velvet banquettes, gilding here and there, and comfortable round chairs and mirrors complete the room.

The atmosphere is intimate and subdued, with spotlights and indirect lighting. Table service is pleasant and rather quick. It creates a calm atmosphere.

There is no buffet here, but there is table service with a varied selection of pastries, fresh fruit, hot dishes and beverages for the Le Parisien and Le Saint-Honoré « French breakfast » menus. An à la carte menu offers international and healthy dishes such as Lebanese platter, eggs Benedict and more.

Thanks to our Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite status, we enjoyed the complimentary Saint-Honoré menu and were fully satisfied. Everything was delicious.

Chef Akira Back offers refined Japanese cuisine in his namesake restaurant from 7 pm to midnight.

Opposite, chef Norbert Tarayre welcomes guests to his Restaurant & Bar at 19.20. At the time, I didn’t recognize the name of this chef, even though he is well known for being a finalist in Top Chef season 3 in France.

The room is once again sumptuously decorated with velvet armchairs and marble tables, and the atmosphere is peaceful, rich and colourful. We simply travel. The whole evokes the rich history of Paris.

The bar is an objet d’art, with its design and superb cognac showcase! We would have been tempted if we’d had more time. It’s a reason for us to come back and taste this chef’s home cooking simultaneously or try one of the weekly masterclasses to discover the art of mixology at Bar 19.20!

Finally, the Prince de Galles, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris boasts an elegant patio, a rarity in the area! It’s a very pleasant place to be.

Interestingly, the Prince de Galles was built from the same stones as the Arc de Triomphe! These stones can be found throughout the hotel, giving it a special cachet.

The Prince de Galles, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris offers the Bien-Être suite by Olivier Lecocq between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm by appointment, with a range of treatments, including body scrubs, manicures, pedicures, massages and many more that can be booked through the concierge service.

The Prince de Galles, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris finally offers a relatively complete fitness room that is open 24/7, warm and luxurious.

Space is a little tight for floor exercises if there are several of you, but the hotel offers plenty of choice. The decor is well thought-out, with pieces of art and even mosaics in the changing rooms and on all the bathroom walls, including a shower.

Step out of the Prince de Galles, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Paris, and you’re just steps away from Paris landmarks such as the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs-Élysées, as well as the finest luxury boutiques including Dior, Cartier, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and Bulgari. Pure pleasure for the eyes.

We met our customer relations manager, Marie-Claude, who was in Paris with her children that week. We took the opportunity to have a drink with a lovely view of the Arc de Triomphe.

To conclude, the Prince de Galles, a Luxury Collection Hotel Paris, is distinguished by its decor, which celebrates Art Deco while incorporating contemporary touches. It uses luxurious materials and refined finishes to create an atmosphere of grandeur and timeless comfort.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, which was unique and memorable thanks to the hotel’s services and ideal location.
