TAP Air Portugal: flights, stopovers and points from Canada
Loading article…
Flying TAP Air Portugal from Canada can suit a trip to Portugal or an onward connection. Compare total travel time, ticket conditions, and optional charges before choosing.
For another connection to Europe with a possible extended stay, compare our Icelandair guide from Canada: Keflavík, stopovers, points and cards.
This guide focuses on TAP Air Portugal as an airline. Official information checked on October 28, 2026. TAP Miles&Go and Aeroplan have separate currencies and rules.
TAP Air Portugal departures from Canada
The Canadian TAP website markets itineraries including Montréal-Trudeau (YUL) and Toronto-Pearson (YYZ) to Lisbon (LIS). Check your dates and operating carrier rather than assuming a permanent schedule from a route page.
For Porto (OPO), other Portuguese destinations, or onward travel, compare the nonstop and connecting flights actually offered. A Porto result does not establish a nonstop flight from your Canadian city.
At Lisbon, examine terminals, border controls, and connection time. With separate tickets, check baggage collection and recheck requirements. A cheaper positioning flight can add risk and require an overnight stay.
TAP Stopover: up to 10 days in Portugal
TAP’s Portugal Stopover allows an eligible itinerary to include up to 10 days in Lisbon or Porto. The option applies to the outbound or return journey under the displayed conditions.
No additional stopover airfare does not guarantee the same total as every alternative search. Fare-class availability and taxes can change the price. Compare the same itinerary with and without the extended stop.
Also check:
- Ticket: eligible itinerary, duration, and outbound or return stop.
- Ground costs: accommodation, transportation, and possible baggage charges.
- Documents: requirements for entering Portugal.
- Points: the issuing award program’s own stopover rules.
An Aeroplan ticket follows Aeroplan conditions. TAP’s commercial stopover offer does not automatically apply. Confirm an award stopover separately before transferring points.
Cabins and aircraft: compare the actual seat
TAP uses different aircraft and configurations. On long-haul routes, the A321LR and A330neo have different cabin layouts. The aircraft family alone does not guarantee a particular seat.
Read every segment’s cabin. European Business Class can offer a different seat from the long-haul flight. An Economy fare with more inclusions does not automatically create a Premium Economy cabin.
Our TAP A321LR Business Class review from Lisbon to Boston, published in September 2025, describes that historical test. It helps explain the cabin; the seat and points price do not establish a current Canadian departure’s conditions.
Check the seat map before booking and again after aircraft changes. Include any seat-selection charge not covered by your fare.
Baggage and fare conditions
The official TAP baggage page distinguishes cabin bags, checked baggage, and special equipment. Check the exact ticket allowance and any partner-operated segments.
Compare fares including required bags, seating, and changes. Read fare-difference, refund, and fee conditions. Tickets in the same cabin can have different flexibility.
For an extended stop, confirm where you collect and recheck bags. A supplement purchased for one flight may not cover all segments. An Aeroplan card does not automatically provide a free checked bag on TAP.
Lounges and Lisbon connections
Check the lounge terms listed in your booking and the official TAP FAQ. Admission can depend on the fare, eligible cabin or status, flight, and terminal.
A credit card or Star Alliance label does not establish entry to every lounge. Check guests, opening hours, and connection time. Any paid access is a separate expense to include in your comparison.
Book TAP through Miles&Go or Aeroplan
TAP Miles&Go is the airline’s program. Search its official engine for an award and the cash payment. Its miles do not convert into Aeroplan points.
TAP also appears among Air Canada’s airline partners. To use Aeroplan, select points on Air Canada’s website and search for partner availability.
Compare dates, every segment’s cabin, taxes, and fees. A cash seat or Miles&Go award may be unavailable through Aeroplan. Our Aeroplan program page explains the second route without replacing Miles&Go’s rules.
Which Canadian cards fit?
Cobalt: transfer to Aeroplan
The American Express Cobalt Card earns Membership Rewards. The Canadian American Express program allows transfers of 1,000 Membership Rewards points to 1,000 Aeroplan points.
This route books TAP seats available through Aeroplan. The Canadian partner list consulted does not offer a direct TAP Miles&Go transfer. Check a bookable result before transferring.

Buy miles or points for TAP
The official TAP Miles Store offers mileage transactions under account conditions. Check price, currency, posting time, and refund restrictions before purchasing.
If your intended seat is available through Aeroplan, our affiliate link to buy Aeroplan points displays the applicable offer. Milesopedia may earn a commission. These are Aeroplan points rather than TAP miles.
Add missing points, taxes, carrier charges, and optional services. Compare with the cash ticket, including the cost of your intended stopover. A purchase does not hold a seat, and a large bonus does not guarantee savings.
Compare the best credit cards in Canada for the program offering your flight.

Which Canadian airports should I search for TAP?
The Canadian site markets itineraries including Montréal-Trudeau and Toronto-Pearson to Lisbon. Check dates, connections, and the operating carrier in the booking engine.
How long can a TAP stopover last?
Portugal Stopover allows up to 10 days in Lisbon or Porto on an eligible outbound or return itinerary. Check the terms and final price.
Does TAP Stopover guarantee an identical total fare?
No. There is no additional airfare specifically for the stopover, but available fare classes and taxes can change the total. Compare searches.
Can I book TAP with Aeroplan?
Yes, when TAP partner seats appear in Aeroplan. Check each segment’s cabin, taxes, and fees before transferring or buying points.
Does TAP Stopover automatically apply to an Aeroplan award?
No. An Aeroplan award follows that program’s stopover rules. Confirm the points itinerary separately.
Can Canadian Membership Rewards transfer directly to Miles&Go?
The Canadian partner list consulted does not offer a direct TAP Miles&Go transfer. The route discussed uses Aeroplan to book TAP partner seats.
Does every TAP Business Class flight have the same seat?
No. Aircraft and configuration matter, and a European connection can offer a different product. Check the scheduled seat map.
