Blossom Social: Our Review of the Social Network for Investors

You’ve just opened your online brokerage account and you’re ready to invest. But you’re not sure where to start. Which investment account should you open? Which exchange-traded fund (ETF) or individual stock should you choose? You don’t have any friends or colleagues who are interested in investing in the stock market. So where do you turn? That’s the problem solved by Blossom, a new social investment app with over 150,000 users. In this review, we explain what Blossom Social is, the features it offers and its pros and cons.

Blossom Social Investing is a Vancouver, Canada-based technology start-up focused on social investing. With over 150,000 users, it caters to independent investors in Canada and the United States.

Blossom Social: Our Review of the Social Network for Investors - 01-Blossom-Social-Investing

The concept behind this investment app is very interesting. Instead of following finance influencers (“finfluencers”) on Reddit, YouTube or X, Blossom Social focuses solely on finance. Based on transparency, you can see users’ verified investment accounts and trades, which are shared openly. In fact, you can see the portfolios of your friends and the influencers you follow.

Plus, you can communicate and exchange investment ideas with other users, and deepen your investment knowledge.

First, you need to download Blossom Social from the App Store or Google Play. Unfortunately, there is no web version, and the application is only available in English. Once you’ve installed the app, you’ll need to create your free account by providing your personal details.

Then, you can connect your online brokerage account such as Wealthsimple Trade and Questrade for Canadian users, or Robinhood, Vanguard and E*Trade for American users. If need be, you can enter your investments manually (for example, if your online brokerage platform is not yet supported by Blossom).

Then, you can read and participate in discussions about investment strategies and individual stocks or exchange-traded funds (ETFs). You can also follow financial news and view the investment portfolios and transactions of your friends and popular financial content creators.

The main features of Blossom Social are:

Social feed: you can see the publications and transactions of users and subjects you follow. In the public feed, you can see publications in the community as well as the most popular publications. Publications include trades, investment portfolio shares, stock charts and more.
Discover: you can search for community users to follow and select the topics that interest you. For example, dividends, technology companies, etc. Also, you can discover interesting statistics, such as the most widely held stocks on Blossom.
Learn (and earn): you have the opportunity to learn and earn when you follow and complete a short educational lesson and answer a quiz. It’s an opportunity to learn more about companies and exchange-traded funds.
Portfolio: you can analyze your portfolio. However, to access advanced portfolio management and analysis tools, you need to have a paid subscription (Blossom Pro).
Profile: First, you can add a photo and a short biography. Once you’ve logged in to your brokerage account, you’ll be able to see a graph of your assets (only you can see the dollar figures; other users only see your assets as a percentage). Further down, you can view details on your assets (stocks, ETFs, etc.) and track your dividends.
Newsletter: keep up with the latest stock market news with the weekly newsletter that has over 80,000 subscribers.

The Blossom Social application is free. You can create your account quickly, connect your existing brokerage account, follow other investors and get investment ideas. However, Blossom Social offers a paid subscription, Blossom Pro, which provides access to advanced portfolio management and analysis tools. These include sector analysis, asset allocation and dividend tracking.

Blossom Social is a Canadian technology start-up founded in 2021. It is headquartered in Vancouver, British Columbia. It has contracts with several of Canada’s leading ETF providers.

The app has over 150,000 users and is listed in the App Store’s “Top 100 Finance.” Moreover, the Blossom Social app reviews are positive, with an average rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars (over 2,500 reviews) on the App Store and 4.5 out of 5 (over 1,000 reviews) on Google Play.

Financial data from your brokerage account is obtained in read-only mode and is plainly displayed in the application. According to Blossom, the data is never stored or sold.

Currently, you can connect online brokerage accounts from Wealthsimple Trade and Questrade, to name but a few. If you’re reluctant to link your account, you can decide to enter your investments manually… or not. In fact, you don’t necessarily need to share your portfolio. You can simply use the application to read and participate in discussions on investment strategies and follow financial news.

Advantages:

Quick and easy registration
Growing community of investors (currently over 150,000)
Transparent discussions and exchanges with investors and verified portfolios
Investment ideas from other users
Practical portfolio management tools
Educational financial courses (which also help you earn money)
Financial news in the app and weekly newsletter

Disadvantages:

Paid version for advanced portfolio management tools (Blossom Pro)
No Web version or desktop application (mobile only)
Not available in French (one of Canada’s official languages)
Be comfortable sharing your investment portfolio publicly

This is not a disadvantage, but we would like to point out that Blossom is not a trading platform. You need to open an online brokerage account to buy and sell stocks or exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Bottom Line

In a nutshell, Blossom Social is a social investment application aimed at independent investors in Canada and the United States. Based on transparency, it lets you see the investment portfolios of users you follow, participate in investment discussions, follow financial news and expand your knowledge. Whether you’re a novice or an experienced investor, this social network for investors is well worth a try.
