Overview

Earning

***The Radisson Rewards Americas program is no longer in effect. It merged with the Choice Hotels loyalty program on July 18, 2023. However, Radisson Rewards remains active at Radisson hotels outside the Americas.***

In Canada, there is no credit card that lets you earn Radisson Rewards points directly.

You can, of course, earn points by booking nights at hotels in the Radisson group. How many points you earn depends on your status within the Radisson Rewards program and your hotel spending:

  • Club (base tier): 8 points/$
  • Premium (5 nights or 3 stays): 27 points/$
  • VIP (30 nights or 20 stays): 36 points/$

Other options are also available:

The Radisson group has more than 1,100 hotels worldwide, spread across 8 brands:
  • Radisson Collection
  • Radisson Blu
  • Radisson
  • RED
  • Park Plaza
  • Park inn by Radisson
  • Country Inn & Suites by Radisson
  • Prizeotel

Status

Many benefits are reserved for members who have reached a certain Radisson Rewards status. The simplest way to quickly obtain status in Canada is by applying for the American Express Platinum Card. This automatically grants you Radisson Rewards Premium status.

Frequently Asked Questions about Radisson Rewards

Here are the Milesopedia community’s frequently asked questions about the Radisson Rewards program, its 8 hotel brands, and the elite statuses available from Canada.

What are the hotel brands of the Radisson group?

Radisson Hotel Group operates more than 1,100 hotels in 100 countries, organized into 8 brands:

  • Radisson Collection: luxury (unique landmark hotels)
  • Radisson Blu: international upscale
  • Radisson: classic upper-midscale
  • Radisson RED: design-forward boutique for younger travelers
  • Park Plaza: upper-midscale urban
  • Park Inn by Radisson: midscale
  • Country Inn & Suites by Radisson: American economy
  • Prizeotel: European economy

The brand’s presence is especially strong in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. In the Americas, the program merged with Choice Hotels in July 2023.

What are the Radisson Rewards status tiers?

Since the October 2022 restructuring, Radisson Rewards has three status tiers:

  • Club (base tier, no requirement): 8 points per dollar spent
  • Premium (5 nights or 3 stays): 27 points per dollar, upgrade to the next room category (subject to availability), early check-in and late check-out
  • VIP (30 nights or 20 stays): 36 points per dollar, free breakfast for two at participating restaurants

Premium status is one of the easiest to earn in the hotel industry, reachable with just 3 stays.

How many points do you need for a free Radisson night?

Since the October 2022 restructuring, Radisson Rewards no longer uses a fixed award chart by hotel category. The program is now fully dynamic: the number of points required equals a percentage of the cash rate for the available room, so it varies continuously depending on demand, destination, and season, with no fixed point range.

The average value of a Radisson point works out closer to 0.2 to 0.25 cents, making it one of the less generous hotel programs in terms of per-point value. The best redemptions, on expensive rooms paid for almost entirely in points, can exceed this range, but that remains the exception.

Is there a Radisson credit card in Canada?

No, in Canada, no credit card lets you earn Radisson Rewards points directly. The U.S. Bank Radisson Rewards Premier Visa is only available to U.S. residents.

An interesting alternative: the American Express Platinum automatically grants Premium status in Radisson Rewards, which unlocks:

  • Upgrade to the next room category, subject to availability
  • Early check-in and late check-out, subject to availability
  • 27 points per dollar (instead of 8)
  • 10% off food and beverage

For Canadian travelers who are frequently in Europe, this is often the most efficient strategy for taking advantage of the program without qualifying nights.

Does the Radisson Rewards Americas program still exist?

No. The Radisson Rewards Americas program was merged into Choice Hotels Privileges on July 18, 2023, following Choice Hotels’ acquisition of the Radisson brand in the Americas in 2022.

Radisson hotels in North America (United States, Canada, Mexico, Caribbean) now earn Choice Privileges points instead of Radisson Rewards points. The original Radisson Rewards program continues to operate for hotels in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.

In practice: a stay in Toronto earns Choice points, while a stay in Berlin earns Radisson points. Be sure to check the brand before booking.

How do you use Radisson points in Europe?

To take advantage of Radisson Rewards in Europe (the EMEA zone), follow these steps:

  • Create a Radisson Rewards (EMEA zone) account on radissonhotels.com
  • Book your nights directly on the official site, never through Expedia or Booking
  • Use « Award Nights » to pay 100% in points, or « Cash & Points » to combine both
  • Take advantage of « Member-Only Rates, » which offer members up to 20% off

The program accepts points for rooms, in-hotel services, and experiences. For multi-destination trips, check out our complete guide to hotel programs.
