Overview

Choice Privileges is Choice Hotels’ loyalty program. Canadians can earn points on eligible stays and use them at participating properties. Its network includes Comfort, Quality, Cambria, and hotels from the former Radisson Hotels Americas business integrated into Choice.

This guide follows the official Choice Privileges rules, which state an effective date of January 1, 2026, and the current benefits chart, reviewed on October 25, 2026. Status requirements have changed: Gold now starts at 5 nights, and Titanium is the new top tier.

Choice Privileges and Radisson: which account should you use?

The integration of Radisson Rewards Americas into Choice Privileges in 2023 is confirmed by Choice’s official announcement. Those properties use Choice Privileges even when they retain a Radisson brand. To locate a former account, use Choice’s channels instead of opening multiple accounts.

The international Radisson Rewards program remains separate. Its current rules include Brazil within its participating network. A reference to a “Radisson in the Americas” therefore does not settle the question: check the program specified for the individual hotel and your booking. Do not assume a Choice balance works with Radisson Rewards or that transfers between the two are offered.

Joining Choice Privileges in Canada

Membership is free. Canadian residents can join, subject to the requirement to be 18 or the age of majority in their jurisdiction. Each person may maintain only one account. Use the official enrolment form, then add your membership number to eligible reservations.

Your Choice Privileges account shows your balance, stays, and progress toward status. Keep the booking confirmation and final bill. Choice asks members to allow up to 3 weeks after checkout for stay points to appear.

How to earn Choice Privileges points

Eligible spending and reservations

The ordinary rate is 10 base points per whole U.S. dollar of eligible spending, generally the room rate excluding taxes and incidental charges. Do not apply it to the total Canadian-dollar bill. Certain participating Radisson properties in the Americas also award points on eligible food and beverage purchases charged to your room, subject to local exclusions.

Book through Choice’s channels or directly with a participating hotel, using an eligible rate. Bookings through online travel agencies such as Expedia or Booking.com generally do not earn points. Reward nights, room rates below USD 40 per night, and several group or package rates are also excluded under the rules.

Extended-stay exceptions

Everhome Suites, MainStay Suites, and Suburban Studios use a schedule based on the total length of the stay. WoodSpring Suites does not participate: points earning, points use, and other program benefits are unavailable there.

7 to 30 nights5 pointsOn eligible spending

You may earn base points for up to 4 rooms at the same hotel under specific conditions: bookings in your name with your membership number, full payment, and staying in one of the rooms yourself. Status bonuses and other bonuses apply to only one room, and qualifying nights do not multiply with the number of rooms booked.

Return and Earn awards 1,000 points after your 2nd qualifying stay of the calendar year and another 1,000 after your 3rd. It applies to members worldwide, and progress resets on January 1. Consecutive bookings at the same hotel form one stay, even if you check out and back in on the same day.

Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Titanium status

Qualification is measured over the calendar year, using Elite Qualifying Nights, or EQNs, or Elite Qualifying Credits, or EQCs. You must meet one threshold independently; you cannot add a partial nights requirement to a partial credits requirement.

Ordinary calendar-year thresholds; bonus on eligible base points for one room.
TierEQNsEQCsPoints bonus
Gold510,00010%
Platinum1530,00025%
Diamond3570,00050%
Titanium55110,00050%

EQCs include base points from eligible stays. Status bonuses and points from many promotions do not count as EQCs. Reward nights can count as EQNs even though they do not earn new points. Special rules reduce qualifying-night credit at certain extended-stay brands, so check the account counter and rules before planning a status run.

Elite members may request early check-in and late checkout, subject to availability. Upgrades depend on the brand, hotel, and available room; a suite is not guaranteed. Diamond and Titanium include breakfast for the member and one other registered guest at the Radisson properties and participating brands specified in the Americas, subject to conditions. This benefit does not automatically apply at every Choice hotel.

The Titanium Travel Award is an annual benefit that reduces the points needed by 50% for one eligible reservation of one room, for up to 7 nights, at a selection of properties. The stay must be booked and completed within the same calendar year in which the award is issued. Preferred Hotels & Resorts is excluded from this benefit; check the selection in your account instead of assuming the entire network qualifies.

Milestone Rewards provide additional recognition as you progress. Choices vary by threshold and region. You have 6 months to select a reward; if you do not choose, Choice awards points by default. Check which Canadian options actually appear in your account.

Using points for hotel nights

Pricing, availability, and the booking window

The rules allow nights from 6,000 points, including RewardSaver options; most redemption levels start at 8,000 points or more. There is no single guaranteed price across the network. Points requirements depend on the hotel, season, and room. “No blackout dates” still depends on available reward inventory.

You can book a reward night up to 50 weeks before the planned end of your stay, through your account or the program reservation line. Use the official reward-night search. Reservations must be in the account holder’s name; to help someone else use your points, check the rules for sharing points between accounts.

The cancellation deadline is set by the reservation and hotel. Late cancellation or a no-show may forfeit your points. Mandatory resort fees and incidental charges may remain payable: booking with points does not necessarily settle the entire bill.

Points Plus Cash and Preferred Hotels

Points Plus Cash is restricted to U.S. members under the current rules. Its 6,000-point starting requirement and U.S.-dollar cash component should therefore not be presented as an ordinary option for a Canadian member.

Redemptions at participating Preferred Hotels & Resorts, however, are available to members worldwide. Book through the dedicated link provided by Choice, with enough points in your account. The hotel’s cancellation rules take precedence, reservations cannot be modified directly, and incidental charges may remain. Do not assume Elite benefits or the Titanium Travel Award apply to this partner network.

Calculating the value of your points

Compare the same room, dates, and cancellation conditions. Subtract charges that would remain payable on the points booking from the cash price, then divide the saving by the points required. Multiply by 100 to express the result in CAD cents.

Hypothetical example: saving CAD 150 with 20,000 points gives 0.75 CAD cents per point. This is neither an observed hotel rate nor a guaranteed value. Milesopedia’s displayed 0.6 CAD cents is an editorial valuation, separate from the actual quote for your booking. Our hotel loyalty program comparison helps put these uses in context.

Points expiry and sharing

For a member without Elite status, points expire after 18 consecutive calendar months without qualifying activity. Earning or using points through a qualifying transaction can extend validity. Simply registering for a promotion does not count. Elite members in good standing are exempt while they maintain that status; after losing all Elite status, the rules provide an 18-calendar-month period.

Sharing between Choice Privileges accounts is now available on the official website, without a fee at the time of review. The main rules are:

  • Account age: both accounts must have been open for at least 30 days and must be active.
  • Per transfer: 5,000 to 100,000 points, in increments of 1,000 points.
  • Annual sending limit: up to 200,000 points to other accounts.
  • Annual receiving limit: up to 100,000 points into one account.

Sending or receiving points does not extend their validity and does not advance status or Milestone Rewards. Sharing only works between Choice Privileges accounts; it is not a transfer to Radisson Rewards. Check the recipient’s details and current rules before confirming.

Credit cards: check the Canadian market

The Choice Privileges Mastercard promoted on the U.S. website is issued by a U.S. financial institution and, unless otherwise specified, is available to members with a U.S. Choice account. Do not assume a Canadian card provides its status nights or earning multipliers.

For hotel payments, compare foreign transaction fees, insurance, and rewards on Canadian cards in our best credit cards for hotels guide. Payment benefits or bank rewards do not automatically become Choice Privileges points.

Frequently asked questions

Can Canadians join Choice Privileges?

Yes, Canadian residents can join for free, subject to the age requirement and other conditions. Each person may maintain only one account. Add your membership number to eligible reservations and check which spending qualifies after the stay. Benefits for holders of a U.S. Choice card and the Points Plus Cash option should not automatically be extended to Canadian members.

What happened to Radisson Rewards Americas?

Radisson Rewards Americas was integrated into Choice Privileges in 2023. Use Choice’s program and booking channels for the properties involved. International Radisson Rewards remains separate, with its own network and points. Current Radisson rules include Brazil, among other participating markets, so check the individual property rather than choosing an account solely by the continent or hotel brand.

How many points does a stay earn?

The ordinary rate is 10 base points per whole eligible U.S. dollar, generally on room charges before tax. Everhome Suites, MainStay Suites, and Suburban Studios follow rules based on stay length, while WoodSpring Suites does not participate. Rates and booking channels must qualify. Online travel agency bookings are generally excluded even when the property belongs to a Choice brand.

How do you earn Gold status?

The current threshold is 5 Elite Qualifying Nights or 10,000 Elite Qualifying Credits within the calendar year. You must meet either threshold independently. Status bonuses and many promotional bonuses do not count as qualifying credits. Check your account counter and extended-stay rules before paying for extra nights to earn status.

How many points pay for a night?

The rules allow nights from 6,000 points, including RewardSaver options, while most redemption levels start at 8,000 points or more. Actual pricing depends on the property, dates, room, and availability. Compare it with an equivalent cash rate and account for remaining charges. Milesopedia’s editorial valuation does not guarantee a fixed exchange value.

How far ahead can you book, and when can you cancel?

The booking window is 50 weeks before the planned end of your stay. The cancellation deadline then depends on the hotel and confirmed rate. Cancelling after that deadline or failing to arrive may forfeit your points. Keep the confirmation and check which mandatory charges remain payable even when points cover the room.

Do Choice Privileges points expire?

Yes, after 18 consecutive calendar months without qualifying activity for members without Elite status. Elite members in good standing are exempt while they retain that status. Sending or receiving a transfer is not an activity that extends validity. Check your statement and complete a qualifying activity before the stated deadline instead of relying on points sharing alone.

Can Canadians share points or use Points Plus Cash?

Choice offers account-to-account sharing subject to conditions, including both accounts being at least 30 days old and a minimum transfer of 5,000 points. Annual sending and receiving limits differ. Points Plus Cash, however, is restricted to U.S. members under the current rules. Canadian members should verify their actual eligibility rather than rely on advertising aimed at the United States.

Our view on Choice Privileges

Choice is worth comparing for stays you already plan at its participating hotels, including former Radisson Hotels Americas properties. More accessible status still requires checking the individual hotel’s benefits, and an inexpensive cash night does not necessarily justify using points.

Before confirming, check the property’s program, eligible rate, remaining charges, and cancellation deadline. Consult our Radisson Rewards guide for the international network, and create your free Milesopedia account to save favourite programs and choose your newsletters.
