Overview
Petro-Points is Petro-Canada’s rewards program. You earn 10 Petro-Points per litre of gasoline and per dollar spent at the convenience store, then redeem your points for fuel discounts or gift cards (transferring to Aeroplan miles is only possible indirectly, via Cathay Pacific Asia Miles). Link your RBC card to earn 20% more points.
Petro-Points is Petro-Canada’s reward program. During 2021, the company went digital by no longer producing plastic loyalty cards. It’s now Petro-Canada’s app that will allow you to pay, earn points at the pump and redeem points for rewards and in-store gasoline discounts. Petro-Points do not expire as long as the account remains active.
Earning points
Upon enrolling in the program, you will receive 2,500 Petro-Points ($2.50 value)
After that, every litre of gasoline purchased earns 10 Petro-Points, regardless of the type of fuel.
Every dollar spent in the convenience store on most items also earns 10 Petro-Points.
Plus, if you link your Petro-Points account to your RBC Online Banking account, you earn 20% more Petro-Points and save $0.03 per litre on fuel.
It is possible to earn points with partners: Itravel2000.com (travel), Askingcanadians (surveys), Optimity (health and wellness).
Finally, Petro-Canada offers one-time promotions that multiply Petro-Points earnings.
Redeeming points
Every 1,000 points redeemed earns $1 off your purchases.
10,000 points, which is worth $10, also allows :
- gasoline rebates
- a car wash ticket at one of 250 car wash locations across Canada
- Bonus Gas Savings cards to save $.05 per litre on 200L of gas
- 10 off itravel2000.com trips

- Petro-Points can also be donated to the Petro-Canada FACE program, which supports up-and-coming athletes and their coaches as they prepare for the Olympics.
Exclusions
Points may not be redeemed for certain products such as tobacco, alcohol, gift cards and lottery products. In addition, charging stations for electric cars do not generate Petro-Points.
Frequent questions
How do I check my Petro-Points balance?
You can check your Petro-Points balance in the Petro-Canada app or by logging in to your account at petro-canada.ca. Your balance also appears on your receipt after a purchase at the pump or in the convenience store. Activate your card online to track your points in real time.
How do I register for Petro-Points?
Registration or validation of a card is done online here.
How many Petro-Points do you get per dollar?
One dollar spent on convenience store items generates 10 Petro-Points. Each litre of gasoline purchased is also worth 10 Petro-Points.
How many Petro-Points do I need to get a fuel discount?
The threshold for a Gas Savings card is 10,000 Petro-Points ($10 value), which gets you a $0.05 per litre discount on 200 litres of gas. At 20,000 Petro-Points, the discount doubles to $0.10 per litre on 200 litres. The exchange is done in the Petro-Points app or directly at the pump by selecting « Use Petro-Points » when paying with your loyalty card.
Can I transfer my Petro-Points to Aeroplan miles?
There is no direct transfer from Petro-Points to Aeroplan miles. The only possible path is indirect: 10,000 Petro-Points exchange for 1,000 Cathay Pacific Asia Miles (a 10-to-1 ratio), which can then be separately exchanged for Aeroplan miles via the Points.com platform (roughly 1,000 Asia Miles for 227 Aeroplan miles). Net result: about 44 Petro-Points per 1 Aeroplan mile, far less favourable than a direct transfer. It’s generally more worthwhile to redeem your Petro-Points for fuel discounts or gift cards instead.
Do Petro-Points expire?
Petro-Points themselves do not expire as long as your account remains active. However, Petro-Canada (Suncor) reserves the right to close an account that has been inactive for 12 consecutive months (no purchase or redemption recorded), which results in the loss of the entire points balance. To avoid this, simply make a purchase or redemption at the pump or convenience store at least once a year.
