Los Angeles 2028 Olympics: 5 Steps to Attend
- Sport

The Los Angeles 2028 Olympics run from July 14 to 30, and the next tickets go on sale in 2027, with no draw. From Canada, you can already plan the rest with your points: a one-way Montreal–Los Angeles flight starts at 12,500 Aeroplan points, and flights open about a year before the Games.
Our take: in Los Angeles, your flight and hotel will weigh more on your budget than your event tickets, and that is where your points make the difference. Here are the five steps, in the order you will face them. For your purchases in US dollars, start by comparing the best no foreign transaction fee credit cards.
The next ticket sale comes in 2027, and it will be simpler than the first two. According to LA28, tickets for the Los Angeles Olympics will be sold first-come, first-served: no more draw, no assigned time slot, and no limit on how many tickets you can buy.
The opening date has not been announced yet: sign up for the LA28 newsletter at la28.org to be notified. Pick your events now too, since venues are spread across 18 zones in the Greater Los Angeles area, and some competitions take place elsewhere in the United States, including Oklahoma City.
A hospitality package guarantees your seat right now, without waiting for the 2027 sale. The packages are sold by On Location, LA28's official provider: they combine a ticket to the session of your choice with access to a lounge or pavilion.
According to the Los Angeles Times, packages range from US$400 to more than US$15,000 per person. A few examples the paper found:
We would keep this option for the most sought-after events, such as gymnastics, swimming or the opening ceremony. For the rest, the 2027 sale will cost you far less. Keep in mind that these packages cannot be resold.
Your flight to Los Angeles on Aeroplan points will cost you little, as long as you book early. LA28 notes that most airlines release schedules 11 to 12 months ahead: for the Games, aim for July 2027.
| From | Distance to LAX | Starting at | Aeroplan median |
|---|---|---|---|
| Montreal (YUL) | 2,469 miles | 12,500 points | 17,000 points |
| Toronto (YYZ) | 2,171 miles | 12,500 points | 17,000 points |
| Calgary (YYC) | 1,207 miles | 10,000 points | 15,000 points |
| Vancouver (YVR) | 1,082 miles | 10,000 points | 15,000 points |
The Games fall in peak season, so count on the median rather than the starting price. Also compare arrivals at Long Beach (LGB) or Burbank (BUR), two of the five airports serving the region.
To earn those points, the TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card offers up to 50,000 Aeroplan points, and TD rebates its C$139 annual fee for the first year. At the chart's starting price, those 50,000 points cover two Montreal–Los Angeles round trips.
Choose your lodging based on the zone of your events: you will save hours in transit. That is also the advice of LA28, which grouped its venues into zones to make that choice easier.

Between events, you will find our favourite neighbourhoods and addresses in our Los Angeles guide.
Tickets, packages, hotels and meals: almost everything in Los Angeles is paid in US dollars. With a no foreign transaction fee credit card, you avoid the 2.5% most Canadian cards charge, a saving of C$125 on C$5,000 of spending.
The Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite+ Card charges no foreign transaction fees, for a C$150 annual fee, and gives you six free airport lounge visits a year. Before counting any points, its annual fee pays for itself once you spend C$6,000 a year in foreign currencies.
If your application is not approved, the TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card is a good alternative: up to 160,000 TD Rewards points, worth about C$800 in travel by our valuation, and its C$139 annual fee is rebated for the first year. It does charge 2.5% on US dollar purchases, though, so use it mainly to book your trip.

Tickets return in 2027, with no draw: sign up for the LA28 newsletter now. Until then, build up your Aeroplan points, book your flight around July 2027 and keep a no foreign transaction fee card for spending on site. We will update this guide with each LA28 announcement.
