Air France: a guide to flying from Canada

Air France connects Canada with Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), with onward flights across Europe and beyond. Start with the airline operating each flight, the cabin on that aircraft, and the services included in your ticket.
This guide covers Air France as an airline. Our Flying Blue profile explains Miles and status. The combined Air France and KLM guide helps you weigh a connection in Paris against Amsterdam.
Practical information checked on October 30, 2026. Routes, aircraft, and ticket conditions can change.
Air France serves Montreal (YUL), Toronto (YYZ), Ottawa (YOW), and Vancouver (YVR) in its official winter 2026–2027 network. Quebec City (YQB) has seasonal service, so a summer flight should not be assumed to operate in winter.
Schedules vary by week. Our Air France winter flights article covers the Canadian schedule. Confirm your own dates on the airline’s Canadian booking site.
A nonstop flight to Paris and an itinerary with a connection serve different needs. For another French city, check the journey beyond CDG, the terminal, and any rail segment.
For a Montreal departure, our Montreal-Trudeau lounge guide covers lounges by departure zone. Check admission conditions before planning a visit.
An AF flight number can also refer to a partner-operated service. The “operated by” line identifies the airline providing the aircraft and service. Check every segment, including your return.
A single ticket is useful when booking a connection offered by the airline. With independent tickets, you must plan your own transfer margin and check what happens if the first flight is delayed.
The headline fare does not describe the whole trip. Before paying, read the conditions shown for your itinerary:
Read Basic, Light, Standard, or Flex in context. A fare offered on a European connection may include different services from the transatlantic ticket. Save the conditions displayed at purchase.
For a family trip, calculate the total for all travellers, including seats and baggage. A higher initial fare can avoid several additional options.
Economy provides the seat and services shown for your dates. Comfort depends on the seat, aircraft layout, and available space.
Read the seat map for your selected flight. Exit-row seats and some seats with extra room can have eligibility conditions or an additional charge. Advance seat selection is not always included.
The Premium cabin is separate from Economy. It offers a wider seat and more legroom, although the layout depends on the aircraft.
Premium is different from a Business seat that becomes a bed. For an overnight flight, weigh the supplement against your need for rest. Our Premium review from Montreal to Paris describes a specific journey published in 2024, with its historical limits.
The new Business cabin on certain Airbus A350 aircraft has seats that become beds and sliding doors. This does not describe every Air France aircraft.
Check the planned configuration before paying extra for a particular feature. Aircraft substitutions remain possible. The Business seat and service on a European connection can differ substantially from the long-haul segment.
La Première is a separate offering on selected routes and aircraft. Do not assume it is available from Canada or follows the same award-booking rules as Business.
The official Air France baggage rules distinguish the bag under your seat from luggage in the overhead compartment:
Some Basic fares exclude the carry-on suitcase. Pay particular attention to a European connection: the Hand Baggage option conditions identify eligible flights. This does not mean every Canada–Paris ticket is affected.
Departures from the United States have a specific limit of one carry-on and one small bag. For a partner-operated flight, check that airline’s rules too.
Your checked allowance depends on the ticket, cabin, route, and applicable benefits. Read the allowance in your booking rather than deriving it from the cabin name alone.
The additional baggage conditions explain limits and fees. An online discount advertised for some routes does not automatically apply to flights to or from Canada.
Weigh each suitcase separately. An acceptable combined total does not guarantee that every individual bag meets its limit. Keep medication and travel documents with you, together with items that must remain in the cabin.
Use the official Paris connection planner to check terminals and possible checkpoints.
On arrival, follow the yellow connection signs and confirm your next gate on the airport screens. A connection into the Schengen area can involve border control. Your exact route depends on the terminals and onward destination.
Ask where your baggage is checked through and read the tag. Having one ticket does not remove the need to follow transfer instructions. A rail segment or airport change requires separate preparation.
With independent tickets, allow for baggage collection, formalities, and another bag drop when needed. A short connection offered on one ticket is not a comfortable margin for every traveller.
Lounge access depends on fare, status, and flight. The Lounge Option conditions specifically include Business Light among fares without complimentary access. Premium does not automatically provide lounge entry.
Check the lounge in your departure terminal, its hours, and guest rules. Access through a credit card can have different conditions from access through a ticket.
Our Montreal Air France lounge review, published in 2021, and Paris-CDG Hall L review, published in 2022, show the facilities at the time of each visit. They do not establish current admission rules. Our airport lounge directory helps you prepare the other stops on your trip.
Air France and KLM share Flying Blue. To book Air France with Miles, search your itinerary and cabin using the award-booking option. Check availability and taxes before transferring points.
Our Flying Blue profile covers earning, transfers, status, and award tickets. This airline guide focuses on preparing the flight rather than repeating all the program rules.
For Canadian spending, the American Express Cobalt Card is one transferable-points card to examine. Read its current terms and our best credit cards guide. Current fees and offers belong in those product pages rather than being frozen here.
Search for the flight first. Moving points or buying Miles does not hold a seat or guarantee that the same price will remain available.
Air France check-in generally opens 30 hours before departure, with exceptions. Follow your flight’s actual deadlines and recommended airport arrival time.
