Atmos Rewards: Alaska & Hawaiian’s Revolutionary New Loyalty Program

Atmos Rewards: Alaska & Hawaiian’s Revolutionary New Loyalty Program
Share

In a significant development for frequent flyers, Alaska Airlines has officially launched Atmos Rewards. This revolutionary loyalty program unifies Alaska’s Mileage Plan and Hawaiian Airlines’ HawaiianMiles into a single, enhanced platform. This comprehensive new program, which took effect in August 2025, maintains many beloved features from Alaska’s highly-regarded Mileage Plan while introducing innovative benefits and flexibility unprecedented in the airline industry.

Timeline and Transition

Atmos Rewards replaces Alaska Mileage Plan effective immediately, with existing Mileage Plan members automatically transitioned to the new program while retaining their account numbers and accumulated miles (now called “points”). HawaiianMiles members will transition to Atmos Rewards on October 1, 2025, receiving new account numbers unless they previously linked their HawaiianMiles account to a Mileage Plan account.

Elite Status Tiers and Requirements

The familiar MVP tiers have been rebranded with more conventional names while maintaining oneworld alliance status levels:

Atmos Rewards TierReplacesOneworld status2026 Rquirement
Atmos SilverMVPRuby20,000 status points (unchanged)
Atmos GoldMVP GoldSapphire40,000 status points (unchanged)
Atmost PlatinumMVP Gold 75KEmerald80,000 status points (up from 75,000)
Atmost TitaniumMVP Gold 100KEmerald135,000 status points (up from 100,000)

Revolutionary Earning Options

Perhaps the most innovative aspect of Atmos Rewards is the unprecedented flexibility in how members earn points and status. Beginning in 2026, members can choose one of three earning options:

  • Distance Travelled: Earn 1 point and 1 status point per mile flown
  • Price paid: Earn 5 points and 5 status points per dollar spent on base airfare and upgrades
  • Segments Flown: Earn 500 points and 500 status points per flight segment

Atmos Rewards members can select their preferred earning method once per year, allowing them to optimize based on their travel habits.

Enhanced Upgrade Benefits

Atmos Rewards introduces significant upgrades enhancements, particularly for top-tier members:

Titanium Global Upgrades

Starting spring 2026, Titanium members will receive complimentary day-of-departure upgrades to business class throughout the global Alaska and Hawaiian network without using points or certificates

Hawaiian Upgrades

All elite members will be eligible for complimentary upgrades on Hawaiian flights within North America beginning in spring 2026

These upgrade policies make Atmos Rewards the first U.S. airline program to offer unlimited global upgrades to top-tier elites without requiring certificates. However, upgrades outside North America are subject to availability on the day of departure.

Atmos Rewards Credit Cards

Unfortunately, there is no way to earn Atmos Rewards points with a Canadian credit card. However, Atmos Rewards will be offering three co-branded credit cards in the U.S.; you can find all the details in our article on Atmost Rewards published on Milesopedia USA.

In Canada, you can use VIPorter points to book flights with Alaska Airlines, but this is a separate program with different availability from Atmos Rewards.

Atmos Rewards – Other Program Benefits

Alaska is installing Starlink Wi-Fi across its entire fleet (including regional jets) throughout 2026 and into early 2027. This high-speed connectivity will be free for all Atmos Rewards members, regardless of elite status.

New Partners

Atmos Rewards members can earn:

  • 2 points per dollar on regular Lyft rides
  • 3 points per dollar on airport and premium Lyft rides

Milestone Rewards

The program will continue to offer milestone rewards, with members unlocking choice benefits starting at just 10,000 status points, allowing more frequent recognition throughout the qualification journey.

Atmos Communities

Beginning in 2026, Atmos Rewards will introduce “Atmos Communities,” allowing members to join interest-based groups:

  • Existing Geographic Communities:
    • Huakaʻi by Hawaiian (Hawaii residents)
    • Club 49 (Alaska residents)

New Interest-Based Communities:

  • Global Locals (for international residents)
  • Culinary Journeys (for food enthusiasts)
  • Active Escapes (for adventure/outdoor travellers)
  • Families On the Go (for family travellers)

Points Valuation and Redemption

Alaska has confirmed that “the value of points does not change, and points do not expire.” The airline is committed to maintaining its partner award chart structure, which has long been one of the most valuable aspects of Alaska Mileage Plan. Redemptions will start at just 4,500 points one-way.

Members can redeem points for award travel to more than 1,000 destinations on Alaska, Hawaiian, and 30+ global airline partners.

Potential Drawbacks

While most changes appear positive, there are a few potential drawbacks:

  • Increased Elite Requirements: Higher qualification thresholds for Platinum and Titanium status in 2026
  • Partner Booking Fee: The $25 partner redemption fee remains in place
  • Day-of-Departure Global Upgrades: While a nice perk, some may prefer confirmable upgrades rather than last-minute upgrade possibilities

Bottom Line

Atmos Rewards represents a significant evolution in airline loyalty programs, maintaining the core strengths of Alaska’s highly respected Mileage Plan while introducing new innovations such as customizable earning methods.

For most members, particularly those who valued Alaska’s distance-based earning model, the changes are overwhelmingly positive. The new program strikes a balance between preserving what frequent flyers loved about Mileage Plan while expanding benefits to accommodate Hawaiian’s network.

With these changes, Alaska positions Atmos Rewards as potentially the most competitive loyalty program among U.S. carriers, particularly for savvy points maximizers who appreciate the flexibility to choose how they earn and the continued ability to accrue status through award travel.

The Marriott Bonvoy® American Express®* Card is the best credit card in Canada for free hotel nights.

New Cardmembers can earn up to 110,000 Marriott Bonvoy® points with the current offer:

  • Earn 80,000 points after you spend $6,000 on your Card in your first 6 months of Cardmembership.
  • Plus, earn 30,000 points by making a purchase during your 15th month of Cardmembership.

This offer ends on September 22, 2026. The annual fee is $120, and there is no annual fee on Additional Cards, so you can add a partner or a family member at no extra cost.

Every year after your first Card anniversary, you receive an Annual Free Night Award good for a redemption of up to 35,000 points at eligible hotels and resorts worldwide. At a valuation of 0.9 cents per Marriott Bonvoy point, that certificate is worth roughly $315, which on its own more than covers the $120 annual fee. That is the main reason to keep this Card year after year instead of cancelling it.

To get the most out of the certificate, aim it at a night that would otherwise price close to the 35,000 point ceiling.

The Card also gives you 15 Elite Night Credits each calendar year and automatic Marriott Bonvoy Silver Elite status. Those credits count toward the next Elite tier, so you begin every year 15 nights ahead of where you would otherwise start.

You move up to Gold Elite status automatically when you reach $30,000 in purchases on the Card in a year, or when you combine 10 qualifying paid nights within one calendar year with the 15 Elite Night Credits from your Card.

Marriott Bonvoy points are generally valued at 0.9 cents each. On that basis, the 110,000 point welcome offer is worth about $990, and an Annual Free Night Award used at its full 35,000 point ceiling is worth about $315.

Marriott Bonvoy points pull their weight on free nights rather than on gift cards or merchandise, which is why this Card should be judged on the hotel stays it produces.

You earn 5 points per dollar on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels and 2 points per dollar on all other purchases. Points can be redeemed for free nights with no blackout dates at more than 7,000 hotels around the world.

The Card carries a solid package of coverages: $500,000 travel accident insurance, flight delay, baggage delay, lost or stolen baggage and hotel or motel burglary at $500 each, car rental theft and damage up to $85,000 for rentals of up to 48 days, Purchase Protection for 90 days and a one year Extended Warranty.

Two things to plan around: the 2.5% foreign transaction fee on purchases made in a foreign currency, and the 21.99% purchase interest rate, which makes this a Card to pay in full every month. Like all American Express Canada Cards, no minimum income is published for this Card, and you can see whether you would be approved before you apply, with no impact on your credit score.
