Overview
Earning points (historical, through June 1, 2025)
The loyalty program for The Bay stores in Canada was called Hudson’s Bay Rewards. It included online shopping at labaie.com. Registration was free.
By subscribing to the newsletter, members received a $10 discount applicable on their next purchase.
Each dollar spent at The Bay earned one to two points depending on the member’s Rewards status. The status was defined by the amount spent annually.
The Bay also offered a Mastercard credit card, the Hudson’s Bay Rewards card, which doubled the points earned on purchases.
Redeeming points (historical)
The first 1,000 points were required to receive a $5 rebate on an in-store or online purchase. Gift cards were excluded. To keep an account active, a transaction was required every 24 months.
It was also possible to:
- Convert Hudson’s Bay Rewards points to other programs such as Air Miles or RBC Rewards, and vice versa.
- Earn Reward points by completing surveys.
- Link a Rewards account to a Petro-Points account to earn 20% more points on gasoline purchases at Petro-Canada.
Status (historical)
The program had three statuses.
Hudson’s Bay Rewards awarded 1 point for every $1 in purchases. It represented the baseline level given at program enrollment.
Hudson’s Bay Rewards Plus awarded 1.5 points per dollar spent on purchases over $400 in a year.
Hudson’s Bay VIP Rewards awarded 2 points per dollar spent on purchases over $1,200 in a year.
Frequent questions
Is the Hudson’s Bay Rewards program still active?
No. Hudson’s Bay Company ceased all operations in Canada on June 1, 2025, following a creditor protection filing on March 7, 2025. The Rewards program was suspended as of that filing, then permanently ended with the closure of the last store.
What happened to unused Hudson’s Bay Rewards points?
Over 8.2 million Canadians held unredeemed Rewards points balances, with a total estimated value of $58.5 million as of February 1, 2025. No official source confirms any refund or buyback of these points since the permanent closure on June 1, 2025: balances became essentially unusable once the program ended.
Does the Hudson’s Bay brand still exist?
HBC’s trademarks (name, coat of arms, iconic stripes, Distinctly Home, Hudson North, « Bay Days, » customer data and domain names) were purchased by Canadian Tire for $30 million, a deal completed on June 25, 2025. Since November 2025, « Hudson’s Bay Stripes » exists only as an in-house product brand (home textiles, outdoor goods) sold in Canadian Tire stores and online, not as an independent store or loyalty program. The thebay.com website now redirects to canadiantire.ca.
What happened to the Hudson’s Bay Rewards credit card?
Capital One had already left the Hudson’s Bay credit card partnership in 2020-2021, replaced by Neo Financial (« Hudson’s Bay Mastercard by Neo »). When Hudson’s Bay permanently closed, existing Neo accounts were not cancelled: they were converted to roughly 0.5% cash back, then rebranded the « Neo Mastercard » in September 2025 (balance, limit and rate unchanged). This card is no longer tied to any Hudson’s Bay rewards program.
