google_fonts=&#8221;&#8221;][vc_column_text]This flight is the story of a<strong> great contest of circumstances.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I had to meet friends in Barcelona from Montreal.<\/p>\n<p>Having not taken tickets long in advance, and the rates being rather high in this summer, I had chosen to entrust my destiny to aeroplan miles!<\/p>\n<p>Thus, 6 days before departure, economy tickets on United were released.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;47956&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]This flight suited me perfectly because it had the advantage:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to introduce me to a new device (United&#8217;s B787-10)<\/li>\n<li>to get me through Newark<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For anyone, <strong>United+Newark seems to rhyme with &#8220;problems.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For me, travelling exceptionally alone (without Audrey and the children), and being #avgeek, it seemed <em>fun<\/em> especially as it would have allowed me to do new reviews on United&#8217;s economy class and its new device.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the rate paid was very attractive: <strong>30,000 miles + $111<\/strong> (United does not charge surcharge on Aeroplan).[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;47954&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]But that was without the weather problems that the North American East Coast experienced that day.<\/p>\n<p>After an hour and a half delay, my flight from Montreal to New York ended up leaving the door&#8230; to park an extra hour on the tarmac.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;47958&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]Then to get back to the door &#8211; actually we were disembarked by bus in torrential rain &#8211; simply being&#8230; <strong>cancelled.<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;47960&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]Seeing this cancellation arrive (and thus the impossibility of catching my connection in New York to Barcelona), I decided to use the time on the tarmac, <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/programmes-de-fidelite\/aeriens\/aeroplan\/devenez-un-pro-daeroplan-partie-4-les-outils-pour-trouver-des-primes-aeroplan\/\">armed with Expertflyer, <\/a>to analyze my options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Air Canada side<\/li>\n<li>Aeroplan side<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Finally, after a good negotiation, I managed &#8211; on the Aeroplan side &#8211; to get rebooked &#8211; free of charge (except for the mile supplement &#8211; 55,000 miles instead of 30,000) on this Lufthansa business class flight between Montreal and Munich!<\/p>\n<p>The options offered by Air Canada did not suit me because I would have arrived too late on Barcelona.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;37501&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]So I still had to get out of the cross-border zone, to go back to international security side and go to the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge&#8230;.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;37811&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]&#8230; in time to attend the passengers to access the corridor directly (via a 1-2-1 configuration), Lufthansa has maintained a 2-2-2 configuration&#8230;.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;37509&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]As a result, the passenger seated on the side of the windows must step over the passenger seated next to the corridor.<\/p>\n<p>Not very practical, and rather incomprehensible for a company like Lufthansa on a brand-new plane.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;37525&#8243; img_size=&#8221;large&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_column_text]The business cabin is separated by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a main cabin consisting of 6 rows of 6 seats (36 passengers)<\/li>\n<li>a secondary cabin consisting of 2 rows of 6 seats (or 12 passengers)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a view of the main cabin in flight:[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image very good flight on Lufthansa that allowed me to arrive rested in Europe.<\/p>\n<p>I probably wouldn&#8217;t have chosen to initially travel in business class on Lufthansa &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/programmes-de-fidelite\/aeriens\/aeroplan\/compagnies-surcharge-transporteur-programme-aeroplan\/\">too many carrier surcharges <\/a> &#8211; but circumstances have worked in my favour here.<\/p>\n<p>However, passengers travelling frequently for business class work between North America and Europe have access to better products than this one, <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/reviews\/flights\/class-business-best-air-france-montreal-paris\/\">such as on Air France and its new business class offered on some devices.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And those using points and miles should prefer to travel <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/reviews\/flights\/swiss-lx86-zurich-montreal\/\">with Swiss via Zurich<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/reviews\/flights\/turkish-airlines-tk82-business-class\/\">Turkish Airlines via Istanbul,<\/a> both offering equivalent products&#8230; <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/programmes-de-fidelite\/aeriens\/aeroplan\/compagnies-surcharge-transporteur-programme-aeroplan\/\">without any carrier surcharge!<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Otherwise, <a href=\"https:\/\/milesopedia.com\/en\/reviews\/flights\/paris-montreal-air-canada-business-class-aeroplan\/\"> Air Canada&#8217;s business class<\/a> is a step above, in my opinion, what Lufthansa
